Originally, I saw the same concept executed with Super Mario World, where a group of people tried to recreate SMW's OST with nothing but the samples for each song. I decided to do the same for Sonic 1. I wasn't allowed to listen to the OST beforehand or at any point from the start to the end of the project, nor was I allowed to go back and change anything if I suddenly remembered that I was wrong. One render and that's it. I got all of the .VGMs in a folder and ripped the instruments to .tfi, although the convertor is spotty meaning I had to (manually!) edit patches to what they should've sounded like only from memory. This took a couple weeks, so you can hear as I gradually taper off with what I remember from the OST. Going through it to put it all together and render in Corrscope, I already notice that I forgot the entire intro for Final Zone. There are some parts of songs that I remember well, and some parts that don't, so you'll hear parts that are nearly 1:1 with the original and then a different part of the same song that's completely off. It's like "Everywhere at the End of Time" but for Sonic. Sonic Dimentia.
