Always did like imagining how brutal this boss really was. Think about it. Eggman didn't want to make anymore fancy robots. No lasers. No extra gimmicks. He wanted to throwdown in what felt to be the final showdown. Big Arm countered everything sonic could do. Can't jump on top of him easy, and he brutally slams sonic to the platform, if he catches you. Great music too.

He even makes Super Sonic lose rings but that's due to a bug in the game where it thinks you wouldn't have Super Sonic long enough to fight him.

@@yellowmello1223 I wouldn't put it past Big Arms' capabilities lore-wise. The same game shows that enough blunt force can knock Sonic out of his Super state, and being Super has never been enough to stop Sonic from getting crushed. Maybe sheer blunt force is the weakness of a Super form and more final bosses should use it.

@@demi-femme4821 Well, Knuckles does deal with the Master Emerald everyday, which can cancel out the effects of the chaos emeralds if needed, and, I mean, nothing can survive having something twice their weight making them into pulp. Not even with the power of the chaos emeralds. Edit: Oh yeah, and if you play 3&K, and you get to Big Arms as Knuckles and he slams you as Super Knuckles, you just bounce off the ground like a rubber ball.

@@yellowmello1223 Actually that's a glitch because sonic team didn't expect you to make it to the boss with 50 rings but it's fixed in sonic 3 complete and Angel island revisted.

The fact that Tails doesn't join you for the final boss and isn't present afterward when playing Sonic & Knuckles alone meant as a kid I thought he drowned after that first boss.

it was removed to even out the difficulty curve between the two games (heck, they swapped a Robotnik monitor for an invincibility monitor in one place in LBZ)

As a kid, I always felt like this was the moment Eggman was tired of being taken as a joke. Death Egg Robot in Sonic 2 is pretty close, but I felt like this was the point where he was just absolutely done with Sonic's shenanigans.

Six year old me playing this game and when I got here, the very first time the sky turned dark and Big Arm fell past the back of the screen actually startled me. The music was spooky, and it just came out of nowhere with no warning. Excellent boss fight. Excellent music.

Seriously underrated boss. This should have been kept in 3&k - maybe not in the main game, but as an extra. Definitely my favourite classic final boss. 1) Sonic 3 (Big arm) 2) Sonic CD 3) Sonic & Knuckles (Giant Egg Robo) 4) Sonic 1 5) Sonic 2 (Death Egg Robot) 6) Sonic Mania

I'd swap Mania with CD and 2 with Knuckles. Death Egg Robot was absolutely intimidating on a first playthrough and same for Mania, it just felt like Eggman lost his mind by the finale of Mania

I like how this boss was exclusive to the Sonic 3 standalone 2024 Edit:I also dont because the boss design is awesome and i believe that whoever modded out the boss in the modded version of the games is wrong for doing so.I also like how whats going on the comments that replied eventaully strayed from what i was talking about.

The Big Arm scared the crap outta me the first time I fought it. Robotnik's Lazer ship goes down and in less than 10 seconds, his capsule reattaches itself to this friggin monstrosity with spikes and arms that could choke the earth itself.

If the game is locked onto Sonic and Knuckles and you reach the Launch Base Zone, then you can fight Big Arms as Knuckles.

Remember getting to it as a kid with friends, i thought that mini boss was boss of the level, and there are next level. Then.. there he came. I was amazed, and dead, because i had no idea of his attack pattern, and how to attack him.

If you are good at timing jumps then this boss is a breeze. While I use the inata-sheild can beat it without it. I can beat it without getting hit too. Yet I do somehow suck at almost every other boss in the game and that first phase is stupid annoying. I am horrible at sonic until the hard parts. Someone. Help. Me.
