21:53 knuckles chaotix is a game has levels that go up to having FIVE WHOLE ACTS. The fifth one is still a whole level that concludes with a boss, very-much akin to sonic 1.

Well.... To be more specific, for Sonic Advance 2, Amy's spot in the character select screen isn't even visible until after you've unlocked her, so it would make sense you don't see it in the pre-release version footage

Yeah, I'm more surprised to see Amy in the beta screen shot, the life icons are all different from the first game anyway, so there was no reason to show Amy's head there unless they did plan Cream to be the unlockable character early on until later deciding to make Amy with Sonic's moveset and her hammer the hidden character.

9:34 Hey! Local Sonic Autist here. Given the speed and pitch of the music as well as comparing it to other Sonic Games, I'd say that this song would most likely have been in the Ice/Water level. Also omg hiiiii dooogy!!! I love you!

19:28 Sounds like a remix of one of the conversation themes from Sonic Battle, which came out the year prior and is heavily featured in the game's OST already (the true final boss is a remix of Emerl's theme and Route 99 sounds a bit like Tails' Lab).

If anything it was likely used for a "map" for the Emerald Altar, as they likely planned for Emerald Altar to have it's own map with just the Altar boss and the Exception boss, but they probably just added it to Chaos Angel's map since it'd be easier and Chaos Angel already is canonically Angel Island, so no need to make a whole new map for it. Shame though as it sounds really epic.

Was super hyped to discover SA2 pre release build, even if there isn't anything substantially different about it, if anything it makes it that much more fun of a find, a truly unique copy! Thank you for showcasing it!

If not for the VAIN hope that we'd find out what that AMAZING trailer music would've been used for, but honestly it sounds a lot more like a credits theme of some kind, as it sounds really cheery and resolute, but goes on for awhile and loops so it's too long for a menu theme. Though I could see them slipping it in to like a "marathon mode" where you do each stage back to back. Really is a shame, that song was one of the main reasons I bought the game. XD

The unused Leaf Forest song is more than likely a version of the song that was made before the game shifted on pure speed. It would sound perfect for Advance 1 but just didn't fit anymore.

9:54 I agree, was already preparing myself for it to be cut off too quickly, but I’m glad that wasn’t the case! I’ve never played Sonic Adavnce 2 but I remember this song when viewing its trailer in Mega Collection and I assumed it was in game, I’m surprised to see now that it’s not. EDIT: although yes, I doubt such a song would be made for just a trailer, I distinctly recall that when the higher notes come in, it shows Tails in that music level bouncing on notes, which would associate that level in my mind with those notes. Maybe it acted as a transition for the trailer and really WAS made for it, just a thought! I agree it goes hard

That trailer is the whole reason I bought the game in the first place! That song! I was so disappointed wen I heard Leaf Forest had a completely different song (as well as others) and then even more when the song wasn't in the game at all. But hey....we got Hot Crater Act 2. Absolutely COOKED with that one.

20:38 My best guess for these would be something related to the 1-up minigames in Advance 3, especially with the way they flash like something from a bonus game or a reward. Like, for example, completing the minigame with a score from 5-9 would give 1 bonus 1-up or something. That's just pure conjecture on my part, but it's the first thing my mind jumped to. Cool video.

Fun fact, originally sonic heroes were supposed to be creams debut game, but the creators of sonic advance 2 wanted a different character to make it more different from the first sonic advance. That’s why cream is in sonic advance 2

Sonic Lost World for the 3DS does have a fourth act that you unlock after obtaining all of the red star rings in acts 1-3 of said zone, also technically speaking, Sonic Advance 3, Sonic 4 Episodes 1&2, and Sonic Lost World on the 3DS do have a fourth act in account of the boss fight act.

Thumbs up for shouting out the 3DS version of Lost world, the most slept on entry in the Sonic series. Incidently though, the "4th" act is mostly a harder version of one of the acts EXCEPT Tropical Coast, which is an entirely unique level that is the only case where Sky Road's original theme plays (as Sky Road in the 3DS version plays the casino stage theme from Frozen Factory ACt 3 instead). They call it "Act ?" and it's the only one to be unique which is really odd.

If I had to throw a second guess for that unused trailer theme; it's likely a cutscene theme for a different kind of vibe. It carries a similar vibe to when Sonic (Or whoever is playing) meets a new character before they head for the next level.

I kept thinking it'd be the theme for Music Plant zone cause it fit that zone really well thematically. But now that I listen to it, it sounds very resolute, so I figure it'd fit for a credits theme. Just imagine the game ending with "Thanks for playing" as the song fades out.

I wish they'd add the Sonic Advance games to Origins, i've been playing the hell out of that since the dlc was released that lets you play as Knuckles and Amy on every Sonic game, it is so easy to break some of those games playing as Knuckles, especially Sonic CD.

What if only three GBA Sonic games existed? Which were the Advance trilogy? While Advance 1 introduced Cream, Cheese, & Vanilla sooner? While Advance 2 introduced Emerl & Gemerl? And if Advance 3 introduced Shade, her clan, and had Tiny Chao Gardens? While Amy in Advance 1 had Spin jumps and Spin Dash like the everyone else? And if Special Stages were always easier to access and beat? How'd these games have been like? How well would they've been recieved?

The Advance 2 beta build can actually be seen in the promo material videos that shipped with Sonic Mega Collection on GameCube. I have seen that video so many times, I remember it well enough. Also given how shorts actually used to be in Sonic Colors (which had up to 6 acts at times), I'm actually happy Advance 1-3 kept it more traditional.

I started the series with SonicN on a Nokia S60 phone so I kinda gotten used to a different screen resolution. But the funny thing is that those S60 Phones were capable of Emulation. The GBA Emulator is called Vbagx.

So my ten cents on why they removed features like dust clouds and shadows was due to hardware limitations. Chances are it effected performance on the low power software.

The trailer music might have been for a menu or ending cutscene or something. I don't think it'd be for Leaf Forest Zone its music tracks have a more upbeat sound in the final. Also, hi Dooogy.

Man. This makes me appreciate the Advance trilogy a bit more. Really wanna play Team Play on Advance 2. Hopefully that gets a menu option in the decomp', but in the meanwhile, I'd kill for a cheat code to force access it on emulator.

@@CANew1986 Finding out the actual source of the samples for those songs made me appreciate Hideki's mixing skills so much more. I always loved the rapping in Ethno Circus but could never tell what it was until the wiki set me straight. and similarly, Jeh Jeh Rocket using an actual African war chant song was PEAK! Hideki is a genius! Still not sure how he managed to make "Grab the mike HEY" sound like "Take the heat" but he did!

21:53 Knuckles’ Chaotix had five acts per zone and the Wii version of Sonic Colors had six. I’m kind of split on the idea of Advance 3 potentially having four acts per zone. While I think that having three acts is plenty, we also would’ve had five total songs per Zone, and given the fact that Advance 3’s soundtrack is one of the best in the whole series, I definitely would’ve been on board for more of it.

Amusingly I got Sonic Advance 2 solely because of the trailer in the Sonic Mega Collection featuring that song. Imagine my disappointment when it wasn’t there. I also remember the animation for Tails being different for the character select screen, which is a weird thing for me to have noticed 😆
