It really is, and I'm glad we've started to get more little moments like that in recent games (like Sonic being relieved that Amy is okay at the end of Lost World, or being pleased to hear her voice over the radio in Forces). Regardless of anyone's shipping preferences, she _is_ supposed to be one of his best friends, and having him act like he can't stand her undermines that.

@@davebrown2056 So true! I know Sega did the whole Sonic runs away from Amy and Amy glomps Sonic like crazy thing as a joke for younger players, but at some point, the joke starts to wear thin. Not that I stopped finding it funny and cute, but I just want to see Sonic and Amy's relationship evolve. ❤️

Well Boom takes place in a different universe Modern/Regular Amy is probably more clingy because he views Sonic as a sort of superhero while Boom Amy probably views him more like a partner

Same here. Even though it's been ages since I've played Heroes(it's long overdue for a rerelease in my opinion), I still love the sense of humor in that game and these cutscenes with Amy and Sonic were no exception to being hilarious! 😂

Amy was originally created because SEGA's marketing department wanted a "Mickey and Minnie Mouse" relationship, but they refused it for now because it was believed at the time that it goes against Sonic's personality to be locked in a standard cartoon relationship. Well, if you watch AOSTH and SatAM, they'd be proven wrong. I'm even making a Sonic Underground reboot where Amy is Sonic's childhood love (she's a year younger than him) and his future queen.

Well, "being in a relationship doesn't fit Sonic's character" was the reasoning according to Kazuyuki Hoshino, though he didn't specify who made that call (and, at least to me, it sounds like it was based on some pretty old-fashioned ideas about women and relationships). Considering that Naoto Ohshima wanted Sonic to have a (human) girlfriend in the original game and still seemed pretty enthusiastic about that idea when he reflected back on it in 2009, plus the fact that the two hedgehogs were (technically) a couple in the manga that came out in 1992, it doesn't seem like that feeling was unanimous. Something had apparently changed by 1995, since Sonic X-Treme was supposed to introduce a serious love interest for him (a cat named Tiara Boobowski), but of course that game ended up being canceled. By the way, if you're still working on that Sonic Underground reboot, keep it up. It sounds interesting.

@@Angie2343 Well, if you believe Senator Ted Cruz (though I can't imagine why anyone would), Mickey is too busy with Pluto these days to do anything with Minnie... Anyway, I find it ironic that Hoshino talked about not wanting Sonic and Amy to be like Minnie and Mickey in 2013, because later that same year, Mario & Sonic at the 2014 Winter Olympics showed them happily figure-skating to classical music, which is one of the most Minnie-and-Mickey-like things I can possibly imagine. EDIT: In a 2022 Sonic Station Live, Hoshino talked about Sonic and Amy in a way that leads me to believe he's since changed his mind about their relationship. And of course, Naoto Oshima openly supports the pairing. Yuji Naka may still be against it, but he also thought insider trading was a good idea, so what does he know?

I don’t think sonic hates her, he just doesn’t seem ready for a relationship. That’s what I like about the games instead of the SatAm. It matches his personality to not want to slow down. Unlike in SatAm where they kind of force him to be with someone romantically. I’d say it’s more natural for him to just not have romantic feelings for anyone right now. Though I think if he were to eventually slow down he’d be with Amy, because she has a strong character and has always been loyal and caring to friends. Not to mention he’s known her for a long time. I don’t really ship SonAmy but I believe it’s very natural and a possibility. This is coming from a ShadAmy shipper. 💖🖤

I hope I’m not the only one who interprets Amy’s forwardness as a gag between herself and Sonic. Because she’s canonically Sonic’s self proclaimed girlfriend, and it makes their interactions really funny if the whole time she’s being super forward just to mess with him. Edit: also idc what anyone tells me, when Amy asked Sonic to marry her in exchange for telling him where she saw Shadow was such a joke. There is no way she genuinely thought that would work. Idc if that was probably just bad writing when it came to her character, I think it’s funnier if she was joking. Plus, she seemed really focussed on getting Sonic out when she got there, and Sonic didn’t look scared of her at all like he usually does. They were just casually talking, and Amy decided to joke around when Sonic asked where Shadow was. I mean it’s entirely possible she did that specifically to change the subject, as we know Amy plays an important role in Shadow’s character arc. Like-she still very clearly has feelings for Sonic, but Segga has stated that he’s just not a romantic person, so she purposefully acts overly romantic just to annoy him because couples do that sometimes. I feel like it improves their dynamic writing wise if this is the case, because it comes off less creepy on Amy’s end.

Interestingly, if you look at how Sonic X handled that particular scene (in episode 35), it's quite evident that Amy _was_ teasing Sonic, and that he was teasing her in return. Considering that the writer of Sonic Adventure 2, Shiro Maekawa, was a supervisor on that show, he may have been the one who suggested that change (as a correction of how the game handled it). Maekawa also wrote Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, where Amy (in the cutscene where she first appears) pretty much admits that she was doing exactly what you describe. That being said, I wouldn't say Sonic "isn't a romantic person". Indeed, if you go back to the Sonic the Hedgehog Technical Files, they mention that he's an aspiring ladies' man. It's more like he's rather private about certain emotions in general. His idea of acting romantic is more subtle than Amy's (for example, the hug he gave her near the end of Frontiers--he even had his arm around her waist).

That's what I've been thinking. Maybe she's just teasing him. Or maybe she thought of marriage as something else, other than a lifelong commitment. Kids tend to do that. Heck, I've been guilty of having that mindset when I was little.

The ship worked better in sonic boom cause in the games he would avoid her unless it meant saving her and what not but in the show she was more mature which explains why sonic hung out more with her in the show so the change definitely worked

It seems like Amy was intended as Sonic's love interest from the Very start but then they took the crush angle and a very anime-like style (Not saying it's a bad thing, just an interesting change. I love anime). One thing I've been confused about Amy is her element. Sonic can Go Fast, Knuckles displays Raw Power and Tails can Fly but Any seriously confuses me because it seems like she can Only display raw power with her hammer. Edit: It seems like she's psychic or does Fortune Card reading? I'm new to the series if it wasn't obvious lmao.
