I personally like the little more of level theme variety in this version of the game despite there being less levels, though not most of the levels themselves. Aside from Sky Sanctuary and Planet Wisp, the rest of the levels are city levels and first levels. They're really good levels, but a small thing that's on the back of my mind when replaying.

I feel like it wouldn’t have taken up too much space to put 2-3 levels from each zone into one. Like acts 1, 2 and maybe 3 in green hill alone as one stage for classic and a longer one for modern sonic

it's kind of a shame that this game didn't use any of the portable game stages but i do like the stage selection here

So apparently the reason why Generations 3DS is 99% 2D is because they wanted to make a Sonic game that "Nintendo fans were familiar with." I guess the Adventure titles, Heroes, Shadow, Unleashed, Colors, or any of the spinoffs were just insignificant to Nintendo console owners.
