As for the characters, I quite liked Zor (the super depressed one). I found his dialogue pretty entertaining. For example, "Smiling hurts my face, and when I hurt your face, it will make me smile. So in the end, I'll just be hurting myself"

I would hardly say you trashed the game in this review; a very fair look at the games flaws while still looking at the games positive elements. This was also super entertaining and it didn't feel like 20 minutes! Excellent video as always, dude!

Hey, Balrog! Good news! They patched the game! 100 rings now yield and extra life and all of the motion-controlled wisps now can be used with the analog stick!!

Every part of this review had so much effort put into it. I never found a drop of enjoyment at any time, and I was focused on what you were saying for the entire 20 minutes. Altogether great video!

This straddles the line of being both an effective buyer's guide and a diatribe on mechanics ... which is so enjoyable for me. I'm not a professional, so I'm more than aware that these words aren't worth weight in any tier of gold, but I wanted to share them because I enjoyed this video: Firstly, you have a primer for your personal prioritization of what gives a game value (i.e. "Sound, visuals, and narrative can be great, but poor mechanics trumps everything.") You state it in the beginning, just before the spoilers, and finally when you score. Turns out, even in game development (confirmed by Extra Credits), this is completely true. Nonetheless, you're reviewing a game with fanatical legacy, so your value of repetition and constant clarification was so key in helping fanatical viewers soften their hearts and try to be more objective. I don't know if you did that intentionally, but it was so astute. Purpose of rings? Nailed in my opinion. Your choice of words? Yes. Callouts of ripoffs? Solid. I'm still not sure if copying is objectively negative, but your justification was in arguing their relevance to the rest of the game which was pretty cool to me. Boss irrelevance? That was pretty rad pointing out that after the thought that went into each villainous caricature, none of their personality came through in their respectively hyped bouts. I'm so glad that someone clarified the stances of both parties on this title, ran through a brief history, and claimed allegiance to neither with a personal review as the reason why. As a writing device, that pulled me in instantly. Not that my attention has any special or ascended value. I just found it interesting. I was halfway into a case study on this. I don't see the point of it anymore. That was pretty cool. :)

I think Sonic Team should just completely drop the 2D sections from all future Sonic games. The only game I found them enjoyable in was Generations and that was with a character with different game feel. They just feel out of place to me and are a chore to play.

I like your opening speech there, definitely hits home. This review was on point, it was analytical and piercing during the design discussion, and appropriately personal when explaining the time you had with it. Fantastic job, buddy!

This is the first review I've ever seen that actually mentions the major issues with the plot. I know this game is supposed to be based off sonic extreme, but there are soo many parts that look so much like super mario galaxy. Like the ice skating parts, the sliding parts, the spherical planets and a lot more.

These patches include (taken from the SEGA website): Gameplay Updates: • Collecting 100 rings will now grant the player an extra life. • In the event of a Game Over, we have doubled the amount of lives the player will begin with when continuing. (From 5 to 10) • The Indigo Asteroid, Crimson Eagle, Orange Rocket, and Black Bomb Color Powers can now be controlled using the analog stick and buttons. • Fixed a rare graphical issue that would sometimes appear during the pinball section of the Frozen Factory casino area. Additional Updates: • When completing the NiGHTMARE DLC, users will be notified that they can re-play it after scoring 100,000 points. • Items will now appear on the world map.

I just figured this out: Sonic the Hedgehog-1991 Sonic Adventure 2-2001 Sonic Adventure 2 is considered the last good sonic game for a while. An average hedgehogs lifespan is 9-10 years. Coincidence? I think not.

Sir, a thumb to you for bringing up Sonic Extreme. I'm tired of people saying this game ripped off of Mario Galaxy.

I heard the writers for this game had never played a Sonic game before.

I like your review,you made great points,I have the 3DS version just got it too,but some of those problems you monitored did come up,I'm only on Ice factory right now,and it's a pain,first stage was great-ish...and tropical...whatever it's called was a huge test of my patients...although act 3's music was awesome. But on the 3DS version you do get a 1-up every hundred rings. Good luck though because I feel like the game fights me each step of the way. The controls feel slippery,and the game seems unfair at some parts...and I'm a big sonic fan,but this game kinda feels weird... I want to love it,I really do,but it's got a lot of issues,I'm still feeling kinda in the middle about the cut back on speed,but I want to finish it,so great job good sir.

This is one of my favorite Sonic games. Honestly, I have no problems with the level design, and I love the rail levels, mainly because of the amazing music, and speaking of music, it is GORGEOUS. Still, great review. It made me laugh quite a bit xD

There actually is a reason why the wisps are in this game however you may not like it. Sonic team plans on putting the wisps in main titles as the form of power ups. Similar to mario's fire flower and invicibility in all games. Maybe it's safe to say that Sonic Colors was a way to introduce these new power ups. To me it's not a bad idea as long as it doesn't slowdown the gameplay.

I love this game. I completely respect this review though for bringing up some very valid points. For me though the good totally outways the bad. I still go back and play this game to this day. I can genuinely say that for me this is probably the best sonic has ever felt in 3D right next to sonic adventure.

they fixed a lot of the issues with the latest patch 100 rings gives a life now/ super sonic is faster now/ regular sonic is faster/ parkour is better/ multiplayer runs at 60 frames.

I respect you, and you're review, I feel that this is the most reasonable review of the game I have seen. But I honestly feel you should invest in the 3ds version, its the one I played and I feel the gameplay is SO fun, even for the 2D stages. The only problems are the bosses, wisps, and special stages. But overall I really do think the 3ds version, oddly enough, is the definitive version.

I was going to get this game because Colors and Generations were good games, but I was never much of a sonic fan. I'm not getting this unless I want pain and suffering.

I am an avid Sonic fan, I have to admit. But I think Sega has given up from the 32x on (except for the Dreamcast). When I played this game, it was boring. I found it hard to have fun with it, when I really wanted to like it. I have to agree completely with this review.

The only sonic games I really like are sonic adventure and sonic adventure 2. I miss the chao garden.

This is the less bias and best informed review i have seen of this game, and that's a good thing. The floor disappear? like in Kid Icarus? Bad choice (although i like that idea if i ever want to get to a hard modern game) I don't get why to eliminate the idea of 100 rings=1 life especially when the demo on the 3DS have it (my cousin have the demo and i check it, in the 3DS demo 100 rings=1 life) why SEGA, WHY? I won't complaint about the bosses since i have seen worse. I think (and is just a theory, not a game theory) that this game was made to test: 1.- The Parkour to see if they pull it again in the next game. 2.- Tested the Wisp powers in the WiiU and 3DS to see what kind of problem they could have. 3.- The difficulty (100 rings=/= 1 life and platform desing) and lack of hand holding (is this or Omochao i guess). And through those test see what need to be scrapped/fixed/stay for the next Sonic game (you know, the good one that many people may like). After all they did that with the speed boost from Sonic Unleashed and went to Sonic Colors and Generations, so why not this game¡ I still want to play it, i want to play this experience and feel it on my own like Shadow the Hedgehog (which i found decently good actually (still several bad desing choices)) and that way know better than anything what could be improved. Edit: Sonic Team has released a pacht fixing the 100 Rings= 1 Life thing (now 100 rings DO give you an extra life). I know what people should say (and i agree this shoulnd't be a problem to begin with) but at least i'm glad Sonic Team is listening to their fans... Hope they beef the bosses now.

Wow, if anyone finds my last comment, ignore it. I finally got my hands on the game and really enjoyed. It's a shame you didn't like it Balrog, but to each his own. I'd give the game a 7.5-8/10. I really liked the actual challenge this game presented. Every Sonic game prior to this has been waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy. Only Eggman Land, Sonic 2, and Lost World have truly challenged me.

Should I get this or the Wonderful 101? When Mario Kart 8 releases with the free Club Nintendo game, I want to get one of them (I have the other 6 games on offer, and there are 8 to choose from since I live in the UK), so, what should I get?
