Sonic Omens (Full Game, 3.0.0) - All S-Ranks + No Damage*

*except for the Tornado stages and the boss of 6-2. I may be obsessed, and dedicated, but I'm not crazy.
Sonic Omens is finally out and... wow, did it ever live up to my expectations. And then surpass them. I haven't felt this way about a Sonic game in almost a decade and a half. So much I could say here, but I think it best to let the footage do the talking. Suffice to say I'll be playing some of these stages over and over for as long as I've been revisiting Jungle Joyride 1-2.
Want to play it for yourself? I highly recommend it, but be warned this game can get extremely demanding at points.

im so glad someone can run this game without those weird a** allegations floating on their mind about the devs. The game itself is extremely good, minus certain levels that are unforgivable. Most stages you just need to actually be good at the d**n level design. Fans making this game look sacrilegious because of dev allegations is truly disgusting, and saying Omens is a the worst fangame is extremely disingenuous af. Aint no way this is worst than those flash new grounds sonic games or half-baked fan projects. Keep critics to the devs and NOT the game.

Not to mention the complaints levied against the devs are misleading and overblown. They're kind of assholes? But anything more than that is built atop stuff taken out of context or just straight-up lies. And last I checked, being rude on the internet isn't illegal.

@@bottomtext593 If the acusations against them were remotely true... yeah, I might call it wise to not support them financially. But the game is free, and fun. No better way to dick over a dick than to enjoy their hard work for free. ...Meanwhile I'm itching to see what Ouroboros makes next; they'll most likely see my money once it releases.

I appreciate it! Although I wouldn't recommend anyone try and go quite as hard as I do on the score attack side of things. Many of the point requirements for S are a lot lower than I act like they are here... but it makes the game look good, so I said why not.

I had a lot practice on that one with Ep4's release. It's United Railroad that drove me insane for this vid.

@@AustinOnSugar, Honestly, going through the game more than two times (I already went through 5 times), and even replaying some Sonic's levels for Shadow, I just began to get used to his abilities and the pace of the game! Thanks to this, it was blissful for me to replay the second time "G.U.N. Arsenal" and pass "United Railroad" for the first! And so, "G.U.N. Arsenal", "Moldy Jungle", "Zone 99", "United Railroad" and "The Citadel of Lotus" became my FAVORITE levels for Shadow!)) Shadow was basically my favorite in Sonic Omens because of his adorable Chaos abilities, which I eventually learned to use almost like a "third leg"! Thanks to him, I love to replay the whole game ^-^

I've found that hanging by the wall in Maria's arena is the best place to be. The ring attack won't reach that far, and the bombs that spawn in won't clipping you as they're coming in. In general, it's easier to avoid things there so you can save you Chaos Blasts for the final waves on bombs, enemies, and the last Gold Beetles.

You know, I _really_ should have tried that before calling no-damage unreasonable. I think I just assumed the enemy score wouldn't be high enough for an S if I wasn't aggressive. I'll bear this in mind for the inevitable redo though, thank you!

@@AustinOnSugar S is DEFINITELY possible. I missed killing the last Gold Beetles twice (they disappear real fast, almost requiring a Chaos Power to defeat in that time) and still managed an S rank. You can take your time on that fight.

Insane run. Dont know why ppl hate on this game, i think its good , levels are hard and punishing, which means they are so much fun to complete at fastest pace when you master the game! Story is pretty ok, better then Sonic Forces anyway. Voice actors did pretty well too! Music is awesome! 8/10 game for me for sure. BTW you are so good at Shadow its mind blowing

I appreciate it! I had a lot of fun making this vid (I'm still playing these stages for fun from time to time... all worth a revisit when the final version is released). As for why most folks don't seem to "get" the appeal, I'd say it comes down to the fact that initial conveyance in Omens is pretty poor - it's a game you need to learn in order to have the "real" fun in. That's true for a lot of Sonic games, the difference is that the expectations and difficulty here are much higher, so some people might not have much fun at all until after they overcome that learning curve. I'm... dumb, so most games have that kind of learning curve for me. Omens didn't stand out much at all in that respect. Just... a really fun game that keeps getting more fun the more I push myself. And Shadow's a blast (ha) when you get to that point. The way his Chaos Powers string together with combat and platforming is a depth I've always wanted from Sonic-likes. Spark 3 accomplishes something similar, but Shadow here is one of my favorite movesets for just about any high-speed character.

There are many justified reasons people don’t like omens. The first 3 levels are great examples of boost formula, then after that, it’s a terrible slogfest of adventure style levels with boost gameplay. That does not mix at all. Not to mention, the dev team is full of just terrible people. Won’t go into it, there’s tons of videos on the topic.

When we've had Sonic say stuff like "It might even open up the gates of HELL!" and the "One second you're contemplating genocide" line from Lost World, I'm... not about to give Omens Sonic too much flack. Beside, for a snarky line _dripping_ in sarcasm in the heat of battle, the delivery more than makes up for the phrasing for me.

Not excusing bad level/boss design but the games actually fun when you learn how to play efficiently. like yeah its mostly the infinity engine but you feel like you're in the unleashed opening

The initial conveyance of some stuff is poor, sure, but apart from some hiccups (less than your typical Sonic game I'd say), the subsequent fairness of the game is extremely high. I wouldn't call that "bad"; it just means you need to be patient and spend a few lives studying things first. That's not to everyone's taste, of course, but it's the same reason folks love Viewtiful Joe.

The Griffith voice was super popular among fans who grew up with mid-00s Sonic. I'm no professional, but I had an impression of him in my pocket too. What I especially love about GameGuyNick's take here is how he sounds just a little older, maybe a little cockier... like a maturing Griffith Sonic growing into Smith's take on the character. Not bad for a bridge between Unleashed and Colors, eh?

This is truly the best sonic fangame ever. The only thing that went wrong was their sentences. Really though, also what they say in the cutscenes is contradictory to their in-game talk. But everything else is just plain genius. Everything else was just done better then sega. If this was mainline, top 3 sonic game ever.

Hey so there's this funny thing called the video description. Might interest you some time. ...Also last I checked a shield _protects_ you from damage. "Sonic Omens but I don't lost rings on anything but the 6-2 boss" wouldn't have been as snappy a title. ...alsoalso you forgot the twice in a row during the final boss.

@@AustinOnSugar it's already in progress. To begin with, I want to go through all the levels separately. Then record the full passage without damage. Metal Ember and Maria without damage are already uploaded to DisiakNotFound. Slowly, as you can see, I'm going to do it all.

@@disiakfound Good for you! For optics purposes I'd recommend listing it as both "No Damage" and "No Hit" since... most people associate "damage" in Sonic games with losing rings.

What control scheme are you using? I'm with the Generations one and the camera is a bitch to control with the right thumbstick while having to boost at the same time.

Yeah I... reeeally recommend boost on a trigger if you can. Swapping from Jump to Camera becomes second nature but... interrupting boost to look around sounds awful.

There's a lot of misinformation about the... background, as you put it. Take everything, both for and against the devs, with a heaping pile of salt. But all that aside, yeah, fantastic fun to be had if you can adjust to the mechanics.

I agree! My only gripe is their eyes during the endscreen. You can see them expressing like ^v^ which implies their eyes are closed... then they blink. Like, on top of that. Just a teeeensy bit uncanny. Otherwise, _so_ happy You Can Pet the Chao.

Could be a lot of things. The devs are a little abrasive on social media, a few butthurt fans got mad they got kicked from the discord and started a misinformation campain... it could just be plain xenophobia. Whatever the case, I'm just glad they were able to move on from Sonic and start work on their next project.

The game’s everything I want. When I’m not playing Sonic games I’m having a blast with the SoulsBorne series. Punishing and challenging level design filled with speed running exploits is what I, and a lot of people, love. Its peak Sonic. You can’t style on a level that has no challenge and no risk.
