Sega literally had a decade to port these mobile versions to other platforms, and THIS is the state that they're in. Origins isn't horrible, I'd even go as far to say it's perfectly *fine.* But considering the AMOUNT of problems on display here, it makes you wonder how this even got released. Compare this to Bethesda's Doom 1, 2, 3, and 64 remasters on modern consoles, and the difference is night and day. For 30 bucks, Origins should be better.

My theory about why the save files are they way they are in S1/SCD/S2 is that Sonic Team was somewhat inexperienced with the Retro Engine of another team. And since Sonic CD's save file select interestingly also doesn't have a level select and just has you play the last level over again in perpetuity, they'd have to code in a new level select for that game when, as a reminder, they couldn't even implement the Drop Dash properly in those games, instead disguising a Spin Dash as it. So they probably just went for consistency in crippling all three save file selects to work like SCD's because they couldn't be bothered to get Headcannon to make SCD's save file select function like the other games. Though that doesn't explain the one save file per character thing, so maybe that's just a weird creative choice on their part. Also small correction, the Boss Rush save file glitchery was introduced prior to that update listed on TCRF, and it seems to affect pre-existing Boss Rush save files from before that patch was downloaded. I will say I don't blame them for trying to make SCD's menus more authentic to the original, controversial as that may be.

If a little more was added to origins, then I think it would be worth it, but I that getting origins on half off and then getting the dlc would be worth it as of now.

They really were just a bonus reward to players, and were likely only added in so the extra seven special stages made specifically for Sonic & Knuckles wouldn't go to waste. Super Tails was also implemented to give Tails _something_ to work with, and his age and species likely weren't considered at the time of the form's creation. However, according to a lot of up-to-date sources and lore, as well as a handful of semi-official statements, the Super Emeralds and Hyper Sonic _are_ canon, but they haven't actually happened in the canonical narrative so far. So the "best" ending of Sonic 3; the one where you get all the Super Emeralds, beat Eggman, and rescue the Master Emerald to stop Angel Island from falling. That ending is not canon. It never happened. It's essentially a "what-if power fantasy" scenario, again, as a bonus. Instead the "good" ending, where the same thing happens, just with the Chaos Emeralds instead of the Super Emeralds, is the canon one. To support this, the cracked "Super Emeralds" that appear in Heavy King's boss fight are not actually inert, they aren't even Emeralds. They're stone replicas. Some interesting things we can deduce and confirm about the Super Emeralds. The Super Emeralds appear after the Chaos Emeralds are brought to the Master Emerald's altar. It's entirely possible that the Super Emeralds are the Super transformation of the Chaos Emeralds themselves (Mecha Sonic and Imperator Ix in the games, as well as Metal Sonic in the comics have gone Super using the Master Emerald). To parrot a fanboy's ramblings (because I know there's one out there), you can kind of interpret it like Super Saiyan Blue (Or Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, to each their own). It's essentially a feedback loop of power. You pull on a source of power to get stronger, but you make that power source stronger too, and pull from it once it's stronger, you're going to receive a greater boost yourself. In all likelihood, once their enhanced power isn't needed anymore, the Super Emeralds simply reverted back into the Chaos Emeralds. But this is dipping into conjecture. TL;DR Yes, the Super Emeralds and Hyper Forms were added as a bonus, it's not difficult at all to find viability to that explanation. No, the Super Emeralds in Mania are NOT the real thing, they're stone sculptures, likely added to let the fans know they haven't been forgotten by the creative team. Are the Super Emeralds and Hyper Forms canon? Maybe. Current consensus is that they _are_ canon, but the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles where you obtain them _aren't_.

I bought Origins Plus on PC 2 months ago and I've personally had quite a lot of fun playing through these remasters. Although it's the worst optimised version of the game by far, (it was absolutely awful on my laptop at first before I upgraded my RAM and switched to an SSD) it's at least easy enough to mod to fix some of the nitpicks I had with the compilation. Nothing too game changing, but whatever. Anyway I love playing as Amy; she's already my go-to character for a quick playthrough of any game :p But yeah, the lack of a proper save menu for Sonic 1, 2 and CD really sucks. Granted, it doesn't bother me too much since I tend to finish the games in one sitting, and I personally feel collecting the chaos emeralds/time stones aren't really worth the hassle in those games. Still, it's a no-brainer when the older remasters had them around. I also feel sorry for those who got the digital deluxe edition last year as they still have to pay full price for Plus which is just simply a terrible deal so I can understand the hesitancy there. As a newcomer it's a decent deal I suppose, but yeah... even with its faults, Plus is the point where I finally consider Origins to be somewhat worth it, and it's what it should've been at release. It might've been better if Origins had received a delay to 2023 for exactly this. PS: I assume Knuckles & Tails is not an allowed option in S3&K because of the fact Knuckles has to take his own paths. Having Tails around to fly him would allow Knuckles to enter Sonic's paths which I imagine would create some issues. PPS: the Tails underwater crash in Sonic 1 seems to affect only console versions. Seems that PC is unaffected. Which is even more weird...

It's ridiculous how lazy ALL of Origins is. These are great remakes and I've wanted a game that let you marathon all four with cutscenes since like 2015, but the presentation here, the way it's all contained with the menus and stuff, is GARBAGE. It's like there wasn't even a UI designer assigned to this project, they just slapped together a nothing series of menus. Not to mention sections of 3K are still broken due to the weird tweaked acceleration, Carnival Night 2's final running section with the crushing barrels that were perfectly synced in 1994, now kill you unless you slow down and go through each one slowly, it fucking sucks.

Can confirm, tails is broken in sonic 1 on PS5 as well. They can fk off if they think i'm buying Plus when the game has such glaring bugs

16:55 the reason hyper amy IS called super Amy IS because Amy's super Form isnt actually a super Form ITS called supercharged Form which IS simmilar to full Power movie Sonic being Just a powered Up Form and Not a super form. I call that Form supercharged because the trailer of Origins plus Put the Text supercharged before revealing super amy

I... am in shock that there were even more problems with Sonic Origins Plus, but the part that got me is the v2.01 update introducing more bugs. I already felt ripped off with Origins and now I'm glad I chose to not upgrade to Plus. That and there's no discount for my Digital Deluxe edition.

I think X being start in the gamegear games might be based on how on the 3DS virtual console alot of the games would have X as the start button for some odd reason
