@MusicalMinerdude2 жыл бұрын
Even then, I'd say Howard Drossin definitely came to make exceptionally good use of the infamous GEMS sound engine.
@autumnbrushtail2 жыл бұрын
Now see what gave GEMS its infamous sounds was a mix of the available presets in the software and a lot of the music being unquantized MIDIs. I can't say for sure, but in some cases, I do believe Howard Drossin did make his own sounds in some of the games he made music for. I do believe you could make something in GEMS that could sound exactly like what we're hearing here. Would it be easy? Absolutely not, but it could be possible as long as you know your way around an FM synth. Also, something I didn't know until recently is that GEMS does also allow access to the YM2612's channel 3 "special mode" which allows for free tuning of the four operators. I don't know if anyone made use of that, but it is there apparently

I'll always maintain that Howard Drossin was an unsung hero of STI. Hell, even on his first project, he managed to make GEMS sound pretty damn decent. Toxic Caves always had a killer groove, but the way you syncopate the lead synths with the groove just punches the song up to an entirely different level.
