When you hear him talk about speedrunners getting the fastest time on "Who is the captain" made me laugh so much. It's such a little thing, a tiny mission in a game. but speedrunners determined to get the quickest of the quickest 'single step to the right and text box' time, sorta speak hahaha. One of the best and entertaining speedruns of a sonic game i've ever seen. Was really fun to see and listen to them explaining!

From a game dev perspective, a lot of the issues and even loading issues seem to boil down to this: - use of degenerate meshes and scripts (which is why some debris kill you) - lack of boolean checks during scripted movement (to disable damage or controls) - non-stage specific mechanics which allows abuse between stages of non-intended mechanics For the loading issues, it looks like the colliders, textures, reflections and lightings are all too high quality and real-time. They could have set the home hub in a cache or something but didn't so it reloads everytime... which makes no sense in this context since most stages are not long so you would be expected to return to the hub. This of course does not cover the wall clipping which are genuine glitches that should've been QA'd and fixed with additional colliders or Out of bounds checks.

That, "Your move, GameGrumps." had me dying.

I love that they know about the game grumps , one of the best moments on the internet happened when they did this playthrough . I was so happy watching all the parts the first time when i was sick , it really helped me get through my illness

I was among the many who slogged through about 108 episodes of Sonic '06 on Game Grumps and while I wouldn't trade that playthrough for anything, seeing a speedrun of this game makes it look like an actually good game in comparison. Breaking the game, using light speed dash to maintain actual momentum, and knowing how to (mostly) keep the game from randomly screwing you over made this go so smoothly and dare I say QUICKLY that it really felt like Sonic was wasting no time in saving the day for once. For years I've been sitting on concepts and ideas for an ACTUALLY GOOD Sonic game, but alas I don't work for Sega so I don't know if those will ever come to fruition. Anyway, amazing run and thoroughly enjoyable. It's one thing seeing people take good games and break them, but it's another entirely to experience someone taking a broken game and make it actually look good by breaking it more. Very nice.

I believe that the reason you can control knuckles when you complete the level when he isn't supposed to, you can still move in the results screen is because when you take damage to launch yourself down as knuckles is flying gets stored, and when you complete the level, the game thinks that you haven't completed the level, but at the same time it knows that you've completed the level, so the game just allows you to keep control over knuckles.
