Honestly the movie looked interesting even before that redesign, I just couldn’t get past the hideous monstrosity of that Sonic. As soon as I heard they were redoing and then the reveal of it, I was like I’m going to go see this movie purely because they listen to the fans.

It's called press-releases. Members of the press can download interviews and b-roll a few weeks before the movie comes out for promotional purposes. They've been doing this for more than a decade.

I work in VFX and CGI, and can tell you- that's the whole purpose of mocap dots- where you DO NOT need to re-shoot. They used same face mocap from older Sonic design, and swapped it onto new Sonic model. That's exactrly why this technology is used, and that's why the Sonic Re-design was possible.

I live in Vancouver and I saw them filming downtown in 2018. It was exciting, because even though my town is a very common filming spot, we’ve never had such a big movie. I also adore the cast, so I was over the moon!
