Sonic Frontiers back in 2005 looking really nice

Imagine people in 2005 watching this trailer and thinking this is an open world Sonic game.

Jesus I was not crazy after all ! This is exactly what I saw at block Buster in Canada when I was just a kid, it's crazy to see this again

I imagine an alternate universe where this game was amazing and future Sonic games were amazing too. Edit: I meant future ones that were underwhelming like 06 or just average turned out to be good too, I know not every one turned bad after this game.

One cool thing I noticed about the music: starting at 1:01 you can hear the same vocal samples that are used in Wave Ocean - The Water's Edge - (that "ah, ah, ah-ah, ah here we go again"), but slowed down a bit. Or maybe Wave Ocean is the one that's sped up. Either way, I thought that was neat and wanted to share.

Things could've gone differently had this game succeed.

This is probably the only time we can actually see the gold spreading across Sonic’s body as he goes Super. It was always practically instantaneous in every other instance. The way it goes here really gives it that cinematic oomph. Beautiful. Oh, and uh, “If only things had gone differently, yada yada” I guess

I'm glad everything in this trailer we have in Sonic Frontiers.

A couple of things I noticed: 1. At the beginning of the video, you can hear part of Snake Eater 2. Based on the drum and bass style and the music samples I heard, Tomoya Ohtani composed bespoke music for this trailer. 3. When Sonic falls, a funny sound effect plays.

Frontiers' vast plains, dense forests and open skies sure are beginning to remind me of this old trailer.

Imagine a open world Sonic game with the locations in this trailer being transversable it would be a amazing concept, if only Sonic Team decided on one type of playstyle. Sonic Team should of saved the Sonic World Adventure/Unleashed plot and ideas for something grand where Sonic actually adventures through different areas and lands through his speed, meeting other characters and mission points along the way.

Came back here again after Sonic Frontiers finally got a gameplay reveal. In terms of potential for the series this is always the vision I come back to even if it never came to be. That said, the new trailer definitely showcases some of that potential coming back and I will admit first hand that while I'm not too hyped over it, I've got a good feeling about it too. Here's hoping IGN First gives us an even better look at the game over the course 1st June.

So if you saw the footage that was actually available in 2005. It looked nothing like this. This is way too crisp, clear, and smooth. The footage we actually got back then was blurry and. choppy as hell compared to this. Honestly, it left enough to the imagination that it looked like a CGI movie recorded with a camcorder. The trailer swore it was "in gameplay footage"... bullshit, I said. Sure enough, the game came out, looking nothing like this. Now that I'm seeing this crystal clear version 15+ years later... I CAN now see, that this video at least appears to be using the in game assets for this cut scene. That being said, yeah, it's completely misleading. The actual game is NOTHING like this. This video gave me hope that this game was gonna kick ass. Boy. Boy was I wrong.

This is actually really telling. No gameplay at all, and possibly had a separate team to put this little show together. If I had seen this at the time knowing then what I know now, I probably would’ve been a bit worried.

Dang, Sega really used this strategy again for the release of Frontiers, huh?

It's so sad watching this nowadays because the end result ended up being a buggy mess due to the rush that sega put on the development team. This is an example of how to NOT have a successful anniversary celebration and how to NOT make good games. I would've hoped that sega would've learned their lesson but it has been shown that they still have not realized the consequences to rushing a game out, as rushing a game not only harms the development of the game and the team, but harms the sales charts and the reputation of the mascot. The only reason I can understand why they haven't realize this despite many occasions is because people (especially sonic fanatics) still purchase these games despite of their condition which gives sega the idea to keep on rushing games therefore having even more broken games. The sonic community is also a problem but that's a whole bucket of worms I am not willing to commentate about as this will be long enough as it is already.

This game really had potential, but since Sega rushed development of Sonic 06, The Final version we got was prototype version but if Sega delayed the game, It would not be a buggy mess.
