This was one of my mom’s favorite bands in 80s, about year ago I went thrift shopping with my mom and was looking at music cds unknowingly my mom bought Dont Tell A Soul Album CD for me, once I got home she said it was one of her fav bands and to give it a listen, this was first song I played and I instantly fell in love with bands music and there other albums, I always listen to them everyday, gets me so amped pretty much best part of mu day. as 19 yo I wish I was born in 80s to experience this kind of music when it came out and to be able to go to concerts, especially the replacements.

Wow, this performance really exemplifies the careening nature of the Mats. As soon as the music starts it’s like watching someone fall gracefully down a flight of stairs and the stick the landing. I get why these guys were so magnetic to see live, even when they were blowing it on purpose.

This performance is amazing. One of my favorite mats songs. But the thing I find funny is that Paul and the guys know that nobody at the awards show cares about them. He even says what the hell are we doing here. But they’re still gonna put on a hell of a show for the real fans watching.

wow... This Rock Show awards was a one and done. Never happened again, very odd. The Mats being there seemed to be a nod to the future of Rock and Rolk which then quickly died on the vine.

The only audience reaction shot was at the very end, so there's no way to tell how anyone in the audience was actual reacting.

There's ALWAYS somebody bitching about audience participation. Who f'ing cares? To hell with other people's reactions. To need that affirmation seems a little desperate and insecure. Don't worry about everybody else. Like what you like and shut it! 🤘

"It's too late to take pills" haha. That's what they get for censoring such a benign lyric.

My second-favorite part of this video: Paul's eye roll as he knows they're censoring the line about taking pills. My favorite part of this video: Paul changing the lyrics at the end to say, "It's too late to take pills." (Thanks to Trouble Boys for the heads-up on the lyrics switch!)

I reckon his eye roll is a homage to Mick Jagger who famously eye rolled while singing “let’s spend some time together” on the Ed Sullivan show

Leave it to The Boys; everytime they get on national television, they somehow screw it up. I watched this live back then (and their SNL appearance), and loved it both times. God Bless The Replacements.

I miss Bob Stinson and what his guitar could have done for this song. I think Paul is telling us it's too late for the Replacements and he does care that they didn't get the acclaim they deserved but not enough to sell out to commercialism. That would wait for Paul's solo career .. just kidding. He still was better than most solo.

Bob Stinson was absolutely integral to the development of the Replacements, but I have absolutely no idea what he could have done with a song like Talent Show. In Trouble Boys it even highlights his troubles playing with the rockier songs on Tim, let alone Achin' to Be, haha.

@@DomDizzler5053 Thanks for that info and I didn't Bob was that bad, maybe it was alcohol? I didn't want to read Trouble Boys and know too much about what a bastard Paul could be. I guess I am not in love with Slim Dunlop. Maybe Tommy Keane could have been a good one, who knows? Paul toured with him and was on the Tonight show with Leno singing You Aint Got Me.
@DomDizzler5053
@DomDizzler5053 Ай бұрын
@@oppothumbs1 I think it was just the change in the music they were playing! Bob was such fiery player, and really didn't have a more soft approach to his guitar work in his wheelhouse. It didn't help he would never show up to rehearsals at the end either. I would definitley recommend reading Trouble Boys. I don't feel Paul comes off as an asshole, I just feel like the whole story is tragic, and at the end, it really just fell apart. The book has really amazing insight into their whole story, and is easily one of the best pieces of rock lit.

You notice they all don't have a big whack of pedals and shit? Paul darts back a few bars in (once the rhythm section really kicks in) to boost his signal on his amp, just to fuck with the guy who's behind the board. (They tell me he's a dolt).

I loved this era of Replacements. It was song craft, not thrash that they were doing. It’s a perfect little pop tune. But I know where you’re coming from; All Shook Down was the record that I found the dull spots in. But I fully enjoyed Dont Tell a Soul
