This 4 part limited series of Sonic the Hedgehog, explores characters from his rich gaming history. Most notably, the return of Mecha Sonic from Sonic and Knuckles. On this new adventure Sonic and Tails will meet new friends who they will come to know as the Scrapniks. This short spinoff was a really fun read, and I would now say its my favorite spinoff for the IDW Sonic series. It had a darker tone throughout it that I really enjoyed as well as some really fun nods to other franchises and movies! Have you read this comic series yet? Let me know in the comments!

The scene of Mecha Sonic about to get engulfed by the furnace is a direct callback to Metal Sonic's death in the Sonic OVA, right down to Sonic and his robotic doppelganger sharing thoughts.

This is probably our favorite miniseries IDW has made so far, but we kinda hope there will be an annual story (or complete annual) that uses the island again, maybe explain more about it and maybe give Mecha Knuckles more character.

The entire ending of the issue is a really cool reference to the sonic ova, specifically metals' deaths in that ova. Also, mecha knux hat is from the ova.

Honestly I genuinely can’t get over the design of Mecha Knuckles. They went from the kind of mediocre and ugly looking design he originally had in the games, to in my opinion something far more interesting. The grayish blue colors really fit better on this design, the wavy extending arms he has, that massive spike ball he has for a left hand. And to top it all off this design wouldn’t be complete without that nostalgic OVA hat that Knuckles wore in that old animated Sonic movie

I really love the designs that Mecha Knuckles and Mecha Sonic had. They felt old and rusted but the hat and cloak gave them a bounty hunter look!
