The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

His singing style and overall general performance were so outstanding that people often forget what a tremendous acoustic guitar player Sonny James was. He could really pick, as evidenced in this video.

You could most certainly tell in the inflections in old Ed's voice that he REALLY took a shine to Sonny and the boys. They have said that once you pissed Sullivan off, he never forgot and you would never be on his show ever again. A very moody self centered guy, but if you were in his good graces, you were golden, and it appears Sonny was really loved. These were Sonny's golden years. Milo Liggett was fronting the band, and everyone was on the same exact wavelength. What a spectacular video here, most definitely the long gone Golden Days of Television.

I love the original recording of _A World of Our Own_ by The Seekers, and this version is every bit its equal! Sonny James was the perfect artist to cover this song written by Dusty Springfield's brother Tom. A wonderful blend of folk and country. Thanks for posting!

Thank you for this very rare Sonny James performance! This was the first appearance by Sonny James on the Sullivan show in over 10 years. He originally appeared in the 1950's to sing "Young Love". This 1969 appearance took place during the second hugely successful phase of his career in which he performed remakes of former pop song hits, achieving an impressive list of consecutive #1 hits on the Country chart in the late '60's and early '70's. As Michael Tuz mentioned, "A World of Our Own" had been a hit for the Seekers a few years prior to this. I love both versions!

Sonny's vocals sound live to me. Slightly different sound than on the record. This is my favorite Sonny James Ed Sullivan performance. Can't wait to see the Running Bear performance that was done on the same show.

I think you're right. Instruments and backing vocals may be the studio recording but lead vocal sounds live.

The one playing the Tambourine is Gary Robble. He was one of Sonny's Southern Gentleman from 1964-1971

@@Gisada033012 Lin and Duane already stopped touring with sonny. Those two other men are Glenn Huggins and the one in the middle is Jack Galloway.
