In this video I review the design and features of the Sonos Arc. Notable examples being upward firing speakers, Dolby Digital +, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos support, and AirPlay 2, and integrated voice assistants. I make frequent comparisons with the Sonos Playbar. I wrap up with advice on purchasing
Correction: LG OLED eARC support started in 2019 models

I have the Arc, sub and a pair of 1's, I just got them maybe a week ago. Beware the lead time is huge as I waited almost 3 months to get the products. Also if you say check out Costco they have the Arc but it doesn't have voice control. I don't know but suspect the support which means getting the product to individual users might find you at the end of the line for getting one whereas the big boys like Costco get to eat (a pun) first. Having said all of this I have to say I'm impressed with the setup. I'm a bit of a sound aficionado (based on numerous systems over many years) as I have a nice home theater which includes a Golden Ear 12 inch sub that removes nails from studs and breaks glass and rattles walls when I turn it up along with a Golden Ear center channel, Yamaha receiver at 80 watts per channel and 4 Klipsch surrounds. I will say in my opinion the Sonos system I've described more than competes with the system I had and I think steps it up a notch and it's cheaper than my old system! I still have the old system which leaves me having to probably sell it. Solid build on all the Sonos equipment and it's wireless.

Great review! I was considering Arc (no sub, no surround, not yet at least) and JBL 9.1 for casual movie/TV watching, some music, unserious gaming, as they are both $800 as of now. After watching your reviews on both, I'm leaning towards Arc. My one concern is connectivity issue as an Android phone user. Do you think playing the music through NFC will get the job done? How about getting around missing Trueplay feature on the Android app? Thanks!

Another great review, I've got an LG C9 and like the idea of the Sonos ARC, i don't have a single sonos speaker and think for £200 more i'd be better off with the Samsung HW 90R which comes with a woofer and 2 rear speakers. I'm just worried with all the bad reviews for the HW90R around connection issues.
@neverenoughtech
@neverenoughtech 4 жыл бұрын
I didn’t have those connection issues. I wonder if those reviews may have been earlier in its life cycle before critical updates. My biggest gripes were generally its lack of music content partners, lack of whole home audio support, inability to play stereo in the rear when playing music, and buggy- unrefined software. But if you are not interested in that extra stuff, just tv sound, Q90R seems like the way to go. Definitely if it’s Q90R vs Sonos Arc (with no surrounds or sub).
@bbqislife
@bbqislife 4 жыл бұрын
@@neverenoughtech I did see your other video that compares the two, the connectivity issue was around the rear speakers losing connection but this might have been fixed now. I'm an Apple guy and heavily invested in Google (Nest) home but the lack of that extra hdmi port on the sonos and the extra cost to get it to almost replicate the Q90R slightly puts me off. Happy to risk the Q90Rs and its shortfalls if it's reliable in the long run

I did not need the Sonos Wireless Full-On Premium Home Theater Dolby Atmos Surround Sound System Set the Arc Soundbar, Sonos Subwoofers and Two Sonos Surround Speakers because not only I don’t have either a Dolby Atmos tv or a tv that has earc but my open 18x15ft room isn’t ideal enough for the two side-firing loudspeaker drivers on the Sonos Arc Atmos Surround Soundbar to bounce sound off the two walls to create an 180 degrees surround sound because it is an open room that is 18x15ft with a 8-ft flat ceiling. I already owned and have a great Klipsch 5.1.2 Ch. Wired Full-On Premium Dolby Atmos Home Theater Moving Surround Sound System Hooked up to the Onkyo TXSR444 7.1 Ch Premium Dolby Atmos Home Theater Surround Audio-Video Receiver with 4K UHD/HDCP 2.2 hooked up with to great 55-Inch LG B6 4K UHD Multi-HDR w/ Dolby Vision Smart OLED TV with HDMI ARC for the most premium Dolby vision & Dolby Atmos home theater experience but there is one flaw that the tv should support on its firmware update that never happened: it should’ve have Dolby Atmos on a firmware update and there are two cons on this receiver that should support on its firmware update that never happened it should support DTS:X & HDR on a firmware update all of those firmware updates never happened. I can get some 4K HDR TV apps that support Atmos with the total exception of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video (Apple TV, VUDU, Disney+, and HBO Max) but won’t output it meaning it won’t send the single from the tv through the receiver in order for the receiver to say Atmos. HDR worked flawlessly through the tv connected to the receiver that does not passthrough HDR. So far I don’t buy any Atmos Soundbars anymore I only buy Atmos Home Theater Surround Sound Systems with Receivers in order to get the most ultimate higher-end luxurious cinematic immersive atmospheric movie theater surround sound quality

Excellent video, very informative 👍. If I am not mistaken the A8H ( Sony OLED supports EARC as well ) I am Not sure if you are aware about the software issue that the ARC have, supposedly there is cracking noise coming at low frequencies at the time that is reproducing bass. So the is a battle going on because some people say that is happening others that’s not happening, have you ever experienced something like that with your ARC? Even Sonos CS are acknowledging the issue on ARC Best Buy reviews. Again thank you for your video was really cool 😎

I think the Arc is great if you are in the ecosystem you like whole home audio and are seeking a slightly more casual tv audio experience. And top of list user experience. Of the three I’ve tested and made videos and others I’m evaluating ... if you want a strong atmos bubble, I would go with Samsung. I think the Q90R (2019) is the best at this time. The Q950T (2020) may mature into a better sounding bar but perhaps not there yet as it’s so new and still quite buggy. I’ve heard good things about the Nakamichi 7.2.4 but do not have first hand experience.

Hello! Would you recommend getting just the arc (with the possibility of adding ikea speakers) or getting the beam + 2 ones for surround? This will be for a 55 in TV in a moderate to small sized living room. I plan on using mainly for movies and tv but also for music (various genres). Just not sure what the better investment here is for long term and which would have overall better sound quality. Thanks!
@neverenoughtech
@neverenoughtech 4 жыл бұрын
For reference the TV I used in the intro was 55 inches. I think if you are seeking a leap in sound then I would go with the Arc. If you are seeking “nice” sound, the Beam would be fine. The surrounds are not nearly as important as the bar for total sound. One consideration is that if you are in an apartment/condo, you may never feel comfortable raising the Arc volume to a level where you are getting that “movie theater” experience. But in the end, you will almost definitely be able to return the product (hassle but not end of the world) if its not for you, so its not critically important that you get it right with your first purchase. Maybe think of your purchase as a test drive.

Just beware. I bought the 55” LGOLED and the stand for the TV sits pretty low. If you wall mount it you should not have a problem. If you are setting it on a stand take notice of the stand height versus the arc’s dimensions. It may/will interfere with the lower portion of the screen.

Thanks for reaching out and supporting the channel! I’d really like to give you a firm recommendation, but I don’t have any experience with Bose sound bars (just headphones). With this disclaimer ... after some cursory research I imagine these two systems are largely comparable. I do see two big arc advantages ... Atmos and flexibility. Doesn't seem like Bose supports 3D sound, Arc does. With Arc the surrounds and subs are free standing and can be upgraded. Or you could update the soundbar and keep the surrounds. Whatever is getting replaced can be repurposed or sold as every Sonos speaker has value just on its own ... being able to play music on its own or be able to pair with multiple sound bars (as with the sub) I'm not sure if Bose can do this but with Sonos you really have a lot of control over sub and surround volume ... for example if playing music you can have the surrounds play ambient or play more like an additional stereo system. Also you can really bring up the base without necessarily making the soundbar really loud. I really value this ability Just some thoughts If I were in your shoes, I’d buy both and return the one you don’t like. Or buy the one you are leaning towards and return if it’s not good enough. It's a hassle but worth the initial time investment as you will likely keep the bar for years I am considering making soundbar reviews a bigger part of my channel. I’ll make sure to put the Bose 700 in my queue.

My family room is rather large and it's open to the kitchen as well (so not a lot of walls) I love it but I'm wondering a few things... 1.) is this the best money can buy without breaking the bank? 2.) If I were to stick with the ARC, is it wiser to add "surround" or the SUB first? 3.) Between the one, one SL, or Symfonisk...does it really matter if I'm using it for surround only? (your ARC/Q90R comparison REALLY through a wrench in my decision making...::Shakes fist:: "DAMN YOU!!" lol
@neverenoughtech
@neverenoughtech 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is not a good cut and dry on soundbars as they vary in price and capabilities/strengths. Don’t go in expecting a massive Atmos effect regardless of walls. But Sonos will definitely fill the room. Don’t worry about that. Go Sonos for decent sound and a relatively hassle free experience (better with Apple devices). Get the sub if you want better/fuller sound ... get the surrounds of you really want surround effects. If you are really looking for Atmos (circling back) go with Samsung or Nakamichi. Looking for quality well-rounded life go Sonos.

You know, the playbase is one of the few Sonos products I don’t own so I can’t advise from experience. I would say you can expect higher quality sound (clearer and more distinguishable, more frequency fidelity), the question is whether you think these attributes are worth $800? I would definitely upgrade. But everyone has a different value equation. Like I mentioned in the video, you can definitely try it out for a few weeks and then decide whether you would like to return. Hello Daniel, wondering if you have a good solution adding an HDMI switch (w/eArc) to soundbars that typically only have 1 HDMI port (specifically the Sonos Arc). I've bought multiple switches but to my surprise, I get no sound at all. Thank you!
@neverenoughtech
@neverenoughtech 8 ай бұрын
I’m not sure why you wouldn’t get sound with a switch directly into a soundbar input. I would expect if I took the arcana fury HD and put a switch on it, the arc would get sound … haven’t tried it though

Is the architectural in ceiling Sonos speakers compatible and setup as surround speakers?
@neverenoughtech
@neverenoughtech 4 жыл бұрын
Really great question and something I should clarify in my next Sonos SB video. Yes and No. so you don’t add the in ceiling Sonance (spelled correctly) speaker directly as they are not a normal powered Sonos speaker. You can add a Sonos Amp or Connect Amp and then have the amp power the in-ceiling speakers. The Amp has a left and right channel.
@JAkino266

I have the Sonos amp and my in ceiling speakers are Sonos. I bought my setup with playbar and sub back in December. I already have it set up whole theater way with surrounds. Basically I want to replace my playbar with arc. I think it works correct?

Don’t buy arc for superb Atmos support. Even if you did, you can get improved Atmos support when you upgrade your tv at some point. Buy Arc because it sounds generally good and is relatively hassle free

Can anyone here confirm this question. Does the ARC use its up and side firing speakers during non-atmos (aka Dolby 5.1) playback with sonos surrounds and sub connected? Other sound bars from Sony and Samsung will doe this to simulate a virtual Atmos effect. For the cost of this system, I don't want speaker drivers sitting unused when most of my movie watching will be 5.1. I want the fullest sound possible.
@neverenoughtech
@neverenoughtech 2 жыл бұрын
Yes … all speakers are used at all times. The sides and top speakers serve different channels based on type of content and whether you have connected surrounds. When you have connected surrounds the sides strengthen the left or right channel as opposed to acting as left/right surround

Highly enjoyable/informative, sir! Subscription has been actioned. Would you be willing to give me a recommendation for my Sony A80j? I have the option of an ex-demo HT-ST5000 for £750 but feeling it might be a big old (2016). I don’t want to spend thousands and thousands, and aware of the limitations of the ZF9 for example, so, without limitless money, there doesn’t seem to be a clear winner. Thoughts? Merci
@neverenoughtech
@neverenoughtech 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve only had experience with the very expensive HTA7000 and bars in the ZF9 range. I don’t recommend the Z. I’d start with the HTA-5000 if going Sony but may be too much. I need more info … you looking for just a bar or a complete set with sub and surrounds. Cinema 600, Beam 2, mid range Samsung bars would be good places to consider. You might consider powered bookshelf speakers with a sub … that would probably be highest quality sound but would limit you to wide stereo. Pretty sparse in terms of compelling options under 1k
@NicholasPaulFranks
@NicholasPaulFranks 2 жыл бұрын
@@neverenoughtech Thank you. Yes, a bar and sub only is what I’m interested in to improve the already decent sound of the Sony A80j. Some maintain that this TV doesn’t need anything but IMHO it lacks low-end for movies and doesn’t have any notable atmosphere.

Sure, my take is that Sonos aesthetically prefers under the tv which is the location they always place it. I guess my only concern would be that it’s not too close to the ceiling to muffle. I suppose you might want a couple of feet between the bar and ceiling - but it’s quite possible it could sound better higher. For reference I have two playbars that are above TVs in my house and playbars below TVs - The sound differences have not been such that I can really tell. One other detail ... the cutout in the back makes it way easier for the wires to go down than up ... a convenience factor to consider if not planning on routing wires through the wall.

NeverEnoughTech I have a fire below my tv I need to ensure it’s above that... currently i have a beam located above... actually I think the playbar is still worth considering as a upgrade.. what do you think?
@neverenoughtech
@neverenoughtech 4 жыл бұрын
I own 5 playbars. I have really liked them. I’ve briefly tried other playbars and promptly returned. The playbar would certainly be a reasonable choice. I suppose if i were in your shoes I would be a little concerned that Sonos wants to phase it out - and stop supporting/updating. I have 3 play fives gen ones that could not migrate to the new controller system ... I think the playbars will be going the way of the play 5 before too long. Playbar will continue to function for a while but just perhaps a downside to consider. If you are looking to update again in a couple years - the Playbar should work. If you want a sound at for the next 7-10 years - I'd go Arc.
