Hey everyone! Really appreciate all the great comments and engagement. One clarification: When using AirPlay 2 to get sound from Apple devices to the Era 300 -- I did experience "Atmos-like" effects (I checked and each speaker was pumping sound out through the up-firing drivers and I was hearing effects very similar to those I heard from the HomePods) HOWEVER, I have not gotten confirmation from Sonos or Apple that discreet Dolby Atmos information is actually being sent to the Era 300 from, in this case, the Apple TV 4K 2nd Gen box I was using. I await clarification from the manufacturers and will update here when I know more. For now, the only sure way to get Atmos from the Era 300 is to link them to a Sonos Arc or Sonos Beam soundbar with an HDMI input.

If I had to start from scratch, I'd get the Dragon over the Sonos system. But by the time the Dragon was released, I had the arc, 2 subs, and a pair of Ones as rear surrounds. That made the substitution of the Era 300s for the Ones a no brainier. Now if Sonos wants to give the Dragon some competition, Sonos needs to find a way for the arc to pair with a stereo pair of 300s on either side of the arc in addition to a pair of 300s as rear surrounds. I know I would be game for that.

@@grneal26 I don’t believe so. Nakamichi is primarily focused on Home Theater audio as opposed to whole home audio.

Noticed you were using some ultra cool flat black speaker stands to mount the Sonos Eras 300 speakers on when in Stereo Mode. Can you please tell who's the vendor/manufacture of that speaker stand and what the model number was for that set of stands?

Both my wife and I absolutely LOVE our current Sonos arc, woofer and pair of SL Ones setup. She is surely going to love the fact that I now NEED to replace the SL Ones with two Era 300s. ;) But silver lining, I can use the existing SL Ones in other rooms for whole home audio. (Steps away from desk and heads to Best Buy.)

I work for geek squad and installed a sonos beam and just one era 300 for someone and was when paired together i was blown away. My dream home setup would be Sonos arc, sub, and two era 300 as surrounds.

Nice enthusiastic review!! I am just still wondering how the surrounds are with non-Atmos content on TV, cause there still is more 5.1 or stereo than Atmos. Also noticed that you turned your surrounds with the front to MLP. What was your opinion compared to pointing them towards the tv?

Did you used to have the One SL's before? How big of a difference is it? Is it worth the $500+ difference?

@@ChopOn414 Pretty big difference if you are watching a lot of atmos movies via blu ray. If you’re just streaming movies and shows it’s not that big of a difference. The most important part of a sound bar setup is the sound bar so the arc is still the same. I’ll be moving the system to my family room and replacing it with the Nakamichi Dragon when it comes in. Don’t get me wrong it sounds great but I wouldn’t say it’s a game changer unless you have a good atmos mix on blu ray.

@@epap1375 Thanks for the response. I don't ever watch anything on Bluray, and the sonos is all 25% off at the moment (except the 300s of course lol) so I just went with the One SL's for rears along with the Sub and Arc. Hoping I will be happy with it. Thanks again!

@@ChopOn414 Absolutely that was my setup for the last year+ and I was always very happy with it ! You won’t be missing much without the 300’s just streaming so no reason for FOMO. Congrats and enjoy ! If I can make a suggestion. One thing that helped more than any speaker could have was using a couple of acoustical panels on the wall and a rug pad for under my carpet. Give it a look it’s not much of an expense

Thanks for reviewing these setups. I’ve the full arc, sub, 300 rears setup but was wondering re beam system vs 300 + sub for the bedroom. Since it’s mainly music and some movies there, the 300 pair + sub(mini) combo seems to make more sense with an Apple TV available.

lol! I too just very recently got one, a second and then the mini subwoofer so now have a stereo setup for music and am totally, completely happy with it. Got the unlimited streaming service that also has Atmos going on. Not interested in the home theatre things, just for music in a variety of genres. Sounds. So. Good. No ear fatigue after hours. To be sure, I have a great space for these... very open and reflective and wide separation of the speakers. Definitely pricey, but I have no regrets.

Really enjoyed your Sonos Eras 300 review today. Already am vested in Sonos Audio ecosystem, including it's cool App. Currently have 21 Sonos Speakers in various paired configuration sprinkled throughout the house. So no matter where you walk you upstairs or down, you'll get a constant wave of seamless sound greeting so no matter what's playing like the house music or if a 4K Blu-ray movie is playing, than you'll here that movie track too. During you presentation the Sonos Eras 300's in Stereo Mode by you big screen TV, noticed you have some ultra cool flat black looking speaker stands where you've mounted the Sonos Eras 300 speakers. Who is the vendor and what is the model number for that set of Speaker Stands?

I would be interested if they let your pair 5 of these together with a sub for a 5.1.5 channel system, with a central hub for HDMI connectivity (this would probably beat the HT-A9, and some AVR set ups).

Superb review which helped me to decide which way to go with my Soundbar choice after buying a new TV. So I bought an Arc to replace my Beam 2 as it was 20%off. Now I'll save for some Era 300s which hopefully be on special later on in the year. The alternative was the Sony HTA9 but that system is at a significant cost upfront. And I've never seen these on special (in Australia).

Hey man I’m a sales person in one of the major appliance stores in Australia (there’s only 3 so take your pick lmfao), but for Black Friday this year looks like there will be a heavy focus on audio this year. This is because we are seeing a massive saturation this year in home audio. I can’t reveal exactly what products they will be but definitely keep a lookout especially on the SONOS or the Sony AT.

Unfortunately, what I’m hearing from Sonos enthusiasts is that it will be awhile before we see a sale on these. I’m not sure we’ve yet seen a sale on the Sub Mini which released last fall. At least if you’re interested, make sure to purchase as a set. There’s about a $50 savings that way. It’s not a lot, but every little bit helps. :)

Caleb, Excellent review as always! I have a question. I looking to buy a sound bar and need your opinion. I currently run an old 7.1 with full tower speakers. It does not have Dolby atmos. I could afford the nakamichi Dragon, but it is on the pricey side at $3,900. This system with everything together runs at around $2,500 which you state that it sounds better than the Samsung Q990C/B which currently runs at around $1,300. My question on regards to these 3 systems is: How much better do the systems gets as their price moves up? Which one is the better choice? Obviously, I know the more expensive sounds better than the less. Just how much better and is it worth it? I do NOT use it to listen to music or watch sports or regular tv programming. The main uses for it are to watch movies on blue ray, stream on Netflix/Disney and play Xbox games. I know you are busy, but I would love to hear back from since you have tested all of these three systems. I would appreciate other people’s comments too. Thanks!

So you CAN use those speakers for both Dolby Atmos on the TV with Arc and for normal stereo speakers for music? Do you need to switch their purpose every single time or do they know automatically if they are used via the Arc or as "normal" Multiroom-Music-Boxes? For only rear speakers for the Arc I find them a little too expensive but when they can also substitute Stereo speakers in my living room the price would fit better :)

Love the video. I have a set up with Sonos Arc, two era 300's in the rear, and two Sonos subs... Let me tell you the difference between one sub, and two subs.... the base just fills the room. It's not overpowering, but just MUCH more consistent base, that doesn't sound like it's coming from the left or right side, but just fills the room. Crazy... Curious if you've done a video showcasing dual subs??

Hi Caleb. New to your channel from the UK and really appreciating & enjoying your content. I'm doing a room makeover - I'm looking at a 65" LG G3 on the wall and either the Sonos Arc/Gen 3 Sub/ 2 Era 3 surround Or the Sennheiser Ambeo Max and a weak contender, just because I'm getting the G3, is the LG S95QR with the recent firmware update. Small, long room with 3M x 4M as the TV bit. Can you help with the choice? I'm liking the Ambeo as its just the bar, but the Sonos looks amazing. I don't envy your constant deliberations! I have the arc, Sub gen 3 and 2 One SL. The theatre room is 20x15. I don’t need the era 300 but I do want it. Should I upgrade?

I bought the 100's with some stands that could accommodate both 100 and 300. I really liked the 100 but after watching this video....I had to hear the 300's. Long story short....(in my girls words) bye 100's!! They really are amazing!! Music in Atmos is crazy wicked!! So glad I watched this video and took your recommendation!! I have the Arc mini sub (apartment) and 300's!! Love your videos and recommendations

Im about to buy this sonos setup now in 2024. 2 x Era 300, Sonos Arc , Sonos Sub for my TV setup. I hear there might be a new arc coming but I think this setup will be good enough for music and movies/tv in my rather small living room.

I use Sonos Amp paired with Kef R3 (L&R) and Sonos Sub ( wireless) and Sonos one rear (L&R) wireless as surround. Very much impressed with sound quality si far .. is it worth to replace my sinks One for this new Era300?

I have a 42” LG C2 and I’m looking for a speaker system to boost music, peloton classes, KZfaq content, and podcasts. The room is on the smaller side but I love great audio. If I got two of these and wanted it hooked up to the TV in this setup, do I need a sound bar? If so, which sound bar would size best with the 42” TV?

So I’ve had a play bar, 2 play III (for surround), and a sub, since 2016. I splurged and added a pair of Dynaudio Special Forties (up front), and an REL sub, run by a Peachtree Nova 300. This non Sonos stuff I control with a Sonos port. I put just this equipment in a separate “room” on the Sonos app. When we jam out, I can listen to Hi-Res (from Amazon or Tidal) and it sounds great (I do not have a separate stereo room so Audio only is a separate listening experience than watching TV.). This was the setup until last week. I’ve replaced the play bar with an Arc (noticeable improvement). Now, when we are jamming, sometimes I turn the Arc/play bar/Sonos sub room volume up a little(just a little). It just kind of fills the room up a little more with sound. Next I am going to replace the Play III’s with ERA 300’s and maybe turn that room volume up a bit more,, only if it can compete a little better with the Dynaudio’s! (All the Sonos stuff would then be Hi-Res). Has anyone else tried to improve their Sonos, audio only listening experience? (Sorry so long a post but a lot of explanation needed)

I have 2 Sonos 5’s for my 2 surrounds as well as the ARC and 2 Subs. Are the Era 300’s an upgrade over the two Sono’s 5’s?

Can you add two Sonos speakers to function as a front left and right channel paired with the Arc? And then add another pair for rear left and right? Curious about how that would sound.

I have the same system except the rears are Sonos Ones versus the new 300s. I considered replacing them with the 300s, but the Ones are very good as-is and there is also the difference in size. Unless you have a large room to fill the 300s seemed like overkill. I expect they sound great, but how much better are they over the exisiting surround? That would have been a helpful comparison. And finally, the rather large pink elephant in the room is the Trueplay app support. It's been years now and it still is unavailable on Andriod. Sonos doesn't only sell their prodcut to Apple users, yet they still have no solution for over half of their cutomer base. This functionality needs to be developed within the prodcut itself so that it does not depend on another manufacturer's prodcut to acheive optimum perfromance.

I refuse to add any more Sonos products until they Add andriod support! I've called them, left bad surveys on this issue and they still refuse to provide andriod support. They have pending litigation against Google for patent infringements so you take is they won't do anything until that case is resolved. 😢

I agree on the lack of Android support. I can't stand companies that refuse to make their products more flexible which is why I haven't bought a Sonos setup even if the reviews are good.

Would you use the 300’s to extend the arc sound system to other rooms in a condo? I have the sub and arc but want to expand my listening experience to all area of my condo. What would you recommend?

thank you for testing the 300 as tv speakers! Im curious about volume control in that setup; do you have to use the sonos app to adjust volume or does the connected device such as the apple tv control the volume?

@Goo38, the answer is sort of…both. So, if you have an Arc or Beam G2, you connect the soundbar to your TV via HDMI. Once it’s setup in the Sonos app, you can then add in any sub or surrounds. The volume can be controlled via HDMI-CEC using your TV remote or even something like an AppleTV remote (if you’re using an AppleTV streaming box). When you adjust the system up and down using the HDMI-CEC (so TV) volume controls, Sonos will increase the volume of the entire system. Now, you can also control the volume of the system in the Sonos app. In addition, you can control how loud the rear speakers (and/or sub) is in relation to the soundbar. If memory serves, it’s a +/-10. Once you dial in the level you like, when you use the TV to adjust the volume, it will increase or decrease the volume of all speakers together in relation to each other at the setting that you have in the app. I hope that makes sense. Also check out the Soro app on iOS. It opens even more connection for Sonos into Siri Shortcuts. No affiliation but I love that app and it add loads of functionality to a Sonos system. Best $7-8 you’ll spend on Sonos “accessories”. TLDR; if you’re looking for a system that can be easy peasy to control even for those family members who aren’t as technically inclined, Sonos can definitely do that.

I love the direction you're going with... Adding speaker options. So difficult to find online. Also can't find one single video on adding 2 Atmos sound bar systems together... possible? Good idea or bad idea? Also, I have the Q950A and was wondering if I can purchase the same model rear speakers and add more rear Atmos experience, no one can answer if it will work. I also have an older Panasonic Atmos i gave away to buy brother but thought could i run both and experience a wow Atmos world? Or nah? Samsung 4k tv btw.
