I have a SOLGW BCG and have faith in it. One time I had a guy next to me at the range where his new 18" rifle build could fire a round but not chamber a new one no matter how many times he tried. He was using a standard Aero BCG. Had him try my SOLGW BCG and it ran and ran. Educated him on the importance of quality BCGs.

Can you explain what HPT is and why it’s important? Also does it mean this has been done just because the bolt face has brass on it and it’s marked HPT?
@Neil.Anblomi10 ай бұрын
@@highoctanehotrod HPT means it’s “high pressure tested”, which means it’s been fired with a 70k psi proof round. After that it should get MPI’d (magnetic particle inspected) which checks for any cracks or stress fractures. Having brass on the bolt face could mean that it’s been HPT/MPI. It could also mean that it’s only had some standard ammo put through it for basic function testing without having been HPT/MPI.

That's one of the realities of the market that is obscured or just not obvious to most people. There are only so many OEM's out there. What you hope to get from a quality retailer isn't parts they manufacture themselves, but rather parts they have tested to make sure they are not just in-spec, but have the best accoutrements (like springco springs and top quality fasteners etc) and have the most desirable tolerances. The difference between "in-spec" and tight/loose can make a world of difference.

Its question time. I've been into (ownership) of the AR platform for little over two years now. I'm not a gunsmith, I don't have a machine shop, but I am mechanical in nature with a mechanical background and a long term gun owner/hunter, (I'm 66yrs old, & a bit OCD but with a limited budget) Bla...bla..... I visit a local shooting range (I also reload ALL my center fire ammo and have sense the early 80's) sometimes I'm shooting, most times I'm picking up fired brass left behind by the shooters. So, in recent times the brass I pick up is no more than one day old fired, lots of AR owners frequent this range, 5.56(223) & 9mm is the most common brass I find. I have two questions regarding some of the 5.56/223 brass I find. 1st- some of it is smoked/sooted badly allover the casehead (not the case mouth), they look really bad, but other fired brass from other guns loos pretty new except for a light soot at the case mouth. Question, what's the most likely cause of heavily smoked/sooted cartridges in around the base? (I feel certain its in regards to the BCG) 2nd- On occasion, I'm finding spent cases from the same gun with EXTREME dent near midway of the case bodies. Now when I say dent, I mean severe, like the size of say a standard pencil eraser and indented halfway into the case diameter (LARGE IMPACTS) when I found these I would say that the ejection angle from the gun would have been way forward at about 1:30 to 2:00 (I'm this is over pressure, but I don't totally understand the extreme indent)? My aim is to increase my knowledge of spotting certain common issues and how to address them. Thanks For All Your Videos!

@AlphaMachina10 ай бұрын
I'm watching all of this, trying to figure out how I could build a machine that could automate (some) of these tests, so that manufacturers could run every single BCG through testing and then certify the results on a printout afterward. To keep from having to replace gauges after repeated use, calibrated lasers could be used for most of the measurements. It's possible. And because it would be using lasers, the machine could be a worktop device about the footprint of a small microwave. The way these types of gauges would be used would be to calibrate the machine. The only problem with lasers is they might not read properly with highly reflective surfaces and coatings, so it probably wouldn't work properly with any of your gold (like titanium nitride) or chromed BCG components.
@KeterMalkuth10 ай бұрын
The other issue is that, frankly, manufacturers don't need or want to do so. As long as it's within the milspec for military contracts, and within "Good enough" spec for commercial sale, most don't care. Most likely the manufacturers also do many of these tests as part of QC, but they just don't hold to very tight tolerances.
