Interesting review. I've had mine a few months now and I am still in love with the huge soundstage and amazing mids. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder: I love the look of them.

Thanks! I appreciate you not having buyer bias and listening to some other opinion, not all people behave this way 😄 Soundstage is impressive indeed and you're right, it's certainly about the perspective when it comes to the looks. To me Saab cars are one of the most beautiful while many will consider them too quirky. Exactly the same case with this speaker I feel.

@@MAudiophile Very true. I'm not a car fan, but my dad had an old Saab and it was lovely and quirky and solid, inside and out. Industrial design that is functionally superior by not following the crowd is something magical.

I had Lumina 1 + Naim Atom + Eagle Cable High End speaker wires. Sound was amazing, just little bit soft for rock music. I changed wires to QED Reference and speakers became faster and no soft. After I changed to Lumina 2 because relocated to biggest room. In 34qm is sounding like floorstanding speakers. Now I’m calm and happy.

Lumina 2 not too small speakers?

@@roybrolsbeak no. The speakers looks just small but they have wide scenes and bass is deep. Now I connected bi-wire cable and results being better than I expected.

Thank you for the review. I personally find them gorgeous to be honest. At the store, they sounded beautiful, though I did notice the lack of deep bass. Do you think an added sub would be worth it with these? Also, maybe a silly question, but I’m still new to music equipment: the speakers say recommended power is 30-130W at 4Ohms. Is this per speaker or for both speakers? In other words, do I need 2x130 or 2x65 amp? Tnx

I personally prefer 2.0 setups in contrary to the 2.1 but also I've never had subwoofer dedicated for music listening so maybe I am a bit biased here. Usually they give description of watts per channel - both in speakers (so for one speaker) and amps. You probably need to look up power at given impedance in the amplifier too. That's said, those are really only manufacturer recommendations. I was running them with my beloved NAD C320BEE and to me those 50 watts were quite adequate... but of course, higher end gear the better but I think 50 watts would be a minimum optimal power for those kinds of speakers (though according to some there are exceptions such as legendary NAD 3020 with only 25/30W).

@@MAudiophile thanks for the answer. I, too, have no experience with 2.1 for music, but I’ve read people recommending a sub. Btw, the seller where I’ve tested these recommended the Marantz pm6007 with them, which is 50W per channel at 8o, or 65W per channel od 4o.By your comment I guess that’s enough. Thanks again!

It’s impossible to get deep bass with a cabinet this small. You would need a sub.

Your description is so nebulous that I can't discern what the actual issues are with this speaker: "some tracks sound weird", "they engage in some trickery". It would be nice to have a description that was more tangible and meaningful..

Generally I tend to make two kinds of tests on this channel: full reviews and brief "my opinion" ones. In first I usually present measurements and more extensive/objective (based on measurements) descriptions. Latter is more of a first impression video. Still valuable I think. In the end its not easy to describe the sound with words (I should add: especially with those Lumina 2s) and simple frequency response in listening room won't tell a whole story either.

i subbed because of your honesty. there are so many reviews that just want to earn money, its confusing for us (who worked hard to save up for these products) i have owned the focal 906 and my ears hurt quite a bit .. do you have any speakers that i should demo. speakers that amazed you in the 1000/1500 dollar range ? thanks in advance
@MAudiophile
@MAudiophile 11 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, I have listened to those Focals so I understand where you coming from. I would advise listening to Quadral Platinum+ Two (currently my main speakers, great all-arounders), although I know its availability is poor nowadays. Sadly, at the moment I focus on more budget friendly speakers so cannot really recommend you many others. I still have a lot to listen in your range (1000-1500$) in the near future. That said, (from some cheaper ones if you will) maybe have a look at the Elac Uni-Fi Reference, Debut Reference and Polk R200.

@@MAudiophile thanks for your reply. Im now demoing triangle br03 and the heco aurora 300. I have auditioned numerous speakers in the 1000 to 2000 range last months and i just cannot justify spending that much more for such a minor step up. I thought the focals would blow me away but its not like that. The only speaker that really stood out was the evoke 20 but for now i will enjoy some cheaper speaker since i came to the conclusion there are more important things in life than owning the best speaker.

You are decidedly luke warm about these speakers, an interesting contrast compared to the many gushing reviews all over KZfaq. It made me suspicious about those other reviews and my suspicions proved correct. These are pretty average imho and in no way match the praise that others are heaping upon them. They might get better, I'm about 6 hours in, but they're not going to get that much better...

Thanks for nice words! This is the philosophy I adopted from the begining (for both of my channels) - to provide with the most trustworthy and honest reviews, as much as I am able to. I feel there is especially need for that in regards to the Hi-Fi tests. There is just too much hype about some products and some channels that rate pretty much every speaker as Tier A. Add to that the whole audio voodoo (cables, power filters) and in the result you get field that really needs a lot more critical thinking and objectivity (in its subjectivity 😉).

Mostly I post reviews when I indeed give a score to the speaker but this one though was only an impression video (like the title says - "my opinion") so no rating in this case. That's said, at the end I shared my conclusions and actually one person in the comment really accurately summarize my whole attitude towards those speakers as being "luke warm".

It’s a very bright speaker. You can see the guys at Alpha Audio in the video jumping when the music hit the cymbals (interestingly, none of the other ones in the group test did anything similar). Klippel measurements also confirm that excessive brightness, which might be what some people want, but it’s way far from neutrality. Sonus Faber usually has great finishes in all their loudspeakers, and in a sense, this one is a part of it (even if it isn’t my cup of tea, with too much going on in the front). But sound quality is often hit or miss.
