@@sudeepadhananjaya6653I have used this lens for a wedding that I shot (the only one that I did shoot) and loved it. The versatility is great as you can shoot quite wide which is nice indoors during a ceremony and it also has some great tele for when you have more room such as outdoors. I did use it on a nice sunny summer day and the results were great and the married couple was truly happy with the images. It was only during an indoor ceremony that I switched to the 16-35mm f4 lens for a few even wider shots because the room wasn’t very large and a few wider shots were a great addition. All other shots were taken with the 24-240 lens. Overall, the lens is great if there’s enough light. For darker situations such as live music indoors, I would recommend a lens with a larger aperture to let in more light and prevent motion blur from moving subjects.

I like this lens because the best pictures are the taken ones. And that is where this lens shines. You are prepared for everything and mostly you are ending up with a decent image quality (especially due to the OSS). Having this lens mounted on my camera I am always coming home with shots which I wouldn't have been able to take otherwise. That is the real value of this lens.

It’s a great lens. I own just about every FE Sony lens and the 24-240 is very good for events or travel. Also the RX10 IV.

Hi, thanks so much for this lens review: I agree with you that super zooms with such a wide range are a great option for travelers! The cost is a bit much for me and the ultimate zoom length is not enough (I want at least 300mm).

Nice review. I really wanted to compare this lens with the Tamron 28-200 while I was testing it but I couldn't get one in time. I never thought I would enjoy shooting with an all in one lens as much as I did with the tamron. They really did a great job on it. I hope you get the chance to test one out soon it's def been the best all in one I've ever used.

optics are not even comparable, the Tamron gets close to the 70-200 f4 G......

Just watched your Tamron review (JS) with the helicopter rescue and then asked myself, Is there a longer lens (23-200+?). I guess this is it. But not yet sold on it over Tamron. I'll see.

Is it the sharpest lens, no... BUT it is ready for pretty much anything I throw at it at a moments notice! And, I'm NOT hauling around a bag full of primes, wasting time swapping out glass... and MOST importantly, not opening my sensor up to all sorts of contaminants every single time I swap out a lens. Works well for me and that's all I care about.

I have used since 2015 and have captured lunar/solar eclipses as well as moon at 360mm in APS-C mode, great for those landscape wide but for flying birds also. This is the lens to have on your camera while traveling and stopping at a lookout point sites, may not make good time due to all of them. I get bokeh with small center meter and focus. Sony dynamic range makes the lens worth the sub $1K point. You can pair with the E 10-18 f/4 APS-C (so small) get 16-27mm in APS-C or 12-18mm in Full Frame both and all travel stuff fit in a teardrop bag easy to have stopping at a restaurant or walking about in town or in the wild and not having to wear a big bag of stuff and worrying about prying eyes. I keep the bag with me going around town just incase of a spotted scene just can not pass up. Even great at air shows. Sharpness and focus today is really in the software today anyway, so do not worry about all the hype of f/#'s, pixels, and sharpest/clearest from all the circus hawkers on the tube. I use my old film FD lenses at 1.8 or 2 or 2.8 if I need wide and fast, the glass is just as sharp maybe manual but with focus peaking Sony is way better than others.

I've had this lens for about five years now. It is a great go-to because it will cover my butt for almost everything. Its color and definition are pretty good, too. For serious color and definition I go to the Zeiss 1.8 55mm which is an insanely good lens

Get 70-300 instead and a better standard zoom, or ideally primes in wide, mid, 55mm 1.8 ZA and 85+ 1.8 or better

Even for a professional this could be the choice. It surprises me how people keep thinking bigger and more expensive means better. There are plenty of famous photographers who shoot with these smaller "non-professional" lenses.

I actually traded this lens in for a 100-400. The 100-400 is on my camera almost all of the time. After that, the 24-105.

Can I ask how do u compare 24-240 to 109-400 in performance (not range) The Sony 100-400 blows any 80/100-400 I have used on any system This 24-240 lens is practical though Btw I got exactly those two too - 24-105 & 80-400 - 😊-

@@lisawells8226 thank u Sounds like I made the right call and need to stick to those two lenses Problem is that one always wonders for a better lens Think Nikon 24-200 is better than the Sony version - perhaps a mark II is needed

it's not the sharpest lens, but so is most other superzoom lens, I think if you want a all-in-one lens its either this or the Tamaron 28-200 for E-mount

the Tamron 28-200 is SOOOO Much better optically, but the lack of IS is a huge downfall for stills AND video................ tough decisions, really wish the 24-240 had tamron optics, would have made life much easier.

yeah the lack of IS is a deal breaker for me since i shoot alot of sports panning. without IS i would cut my keepers in half or more.
