One of the few reviews that’s not confused about what this camera is. The real comps are the Fuji X100 series and the Leica Q/M cameras. This is a high end COMPACT camera for travel, personal use, and EDC…not a professional tool (though it’s powerful enough to work in a pinch). The advantages of this form factor really start to shine when you throw on one of Sony or Sigma’s compact primes. Incredible performance in an ultralight, ultra small package. People really shouldn’t be cross-shopping this with the A7rV…they should be cross-shopping it with the Leica and Fuji fixed lens offerings.

So agree with you on not saying "just get the AR7V". Sure the A7RV can do more, but I love the CR for it's size and what it can do in that size. I do a lot of walk around, hiking, adventuring kind of photography and do not necessarily want the bigger body of the RV. Also love the fact that it is a lot more unassuming than the RV. The RV looks like one mother of a professional camera while the CR looks more like a consumer grade point and shoot that is nice to take to the streets. But in NO way is the CR a slouch!!

I love the idea, but 60MP is way too much camera for me. I would chew through hard drives too fast. Sharing photos would be a nightmare. Accessing and enjoying the photos would be sluggish. And it is $3k. Too much! Much too much. Sticking with my original, 24MP, A7C, which is a wonderful everyday carry, full frame, camera that I can work with.

You can use the lossless compression modes if space is at a premium.

@@Cthames123 I sold my A7C and bought the A7CR at a discount so my net outlay was around $1200 for the A7CR. As much as I loved my 7c, it was worth it to save and get the 7cr. Black Friday will be here soon enough put a little away each week and you will have $3k in no time.

honestly i really appreciate this review, ive been wanting the a7cr but ive been really put off by so many reviewers saying "if you dont get the a7rv then your bloodline is damned for eternity". especially as i have 0 interested in video, you do show that it ticks all the boxes that i need it to.

Great review! As a question, when you put an APS-C lens on the A7CR body, does the camera automatically go into crop mode, or do you have to set crop mode from settings/the quick menu each time?

I chose the cR over the c2 because I felt the binned video produced less rolling shutter. I don’t think the cR is a great value for dollar but I LOVE the A7cR

Do you know the MP count for the L, M, and S lossless compressed settings? The ability to choose MP is a feature I feel is especially useful because you don't always need a high MP count, but when you do, it's available. I agree with you that because of the ability to choose, the A7CR is going to be more versatile than the A7C II. I have some great APSC lenses, which I can pair with this camera when space and weight are the more important factors. I can use full frame lenses when higher resolution and low light performance are more important.

Great thorough review as usual. I disagree with your assessment of the included hand grip. I find it very comfortable and great to use. I also have the Smallrig base plate for times when I’m doing more tripod specific projects. And if I’m hiking, skiing, traveling or other activities where I want the most minimal setup then I forego any added grip/plate and find it completely usable and fine. I also have the A7RV and honestly even though that camera has better specs, I actually enjoy using the A7CR more.

I have this camera with Sony G 50mmf/2.5 It's the best camera on this planet 😉for...me!!! Do you know how many shots the mechanical shutter can do? The A7R5 is 500 000 " life cycle" and the A7CR is how many? Thank you for the answer. Sorry for my english writting.

I can’t think of too many sony full frame lenses that have optical stabilization,(28-70mm kit lens is the only one that immediately comes to mind). What would be any others where one could,really make use of the full 7stops of active stabilization?

I’m seeing your 24-105mm also has OSS. I can’t think of many others.
@goodwolf152
@goodwolf152 Ай бұрын
Basically all of the telephotos have it, starting with the 70-200mm. But yeah, the wide-to-normal focal length lenses mostly don’t have OSS.
@Cthames123
@Cthames123 Ай бұрын
@@goodwolf152 I see..the OSS reasons to be handy at the longer end of a zoom lens where it can be difficult keeping things steady. The next question is just how effective is OSS on Sony lenses for handheld video shooting. To me OSS was written on the 28-70mm kit lens but it didn’t seem to do very much to add stabilization to my handheld walking around video footage. Thats in comparison to my non OSS lens, (24mm, f1.4, GM), on my A7 IV. Maybe it is effective for longer shutter speed photos one would use when shooting in low light, (did not test out before selling).
@goodwolf152
@goodwolf152 Ай бұрын
@@Cthames123 yeah, that seems to be their thinking. I don’t have much experience with the video stabe (mostly a stills shooter, myself), but I’ve seen mixed opinions. In any event, it seems clear that the latest Sony bodies (A7c/r, A7rV, A9 iii, etc.) are certainly the best they’ve offered to date…whether they’re competitive yet with other makers though, I’m not sure.
@soholingo
@soholingo 29 күн бұрын
I have used this with the 24-240 and the apsc 70-350, and the video stab is really good when shooting sports photos and videos in 4k60p. It seems a bit better in the newer lens. it is better to use the optical stab instead of smoothing out the video in post processing using gyro data. That said even shooting video on the 50GM I could appreciate the IBIS.

A7cR can record 4k 60fps on crop lenses, such as 10-20pz f4, without any visible vignetting. As Sony ZV-E1 also really has binning 48 megapixels, this makes 48 binning megapixels of A7cR the most effective crop lens compact video camera ever

Sony plays with customers. They intentionally removed joystic, 8000 shutter speed, some custom buttons making people thirsty after those. So those will be included on 'a7cr ii' and people will buy them again. You just have to wait.

I can pick up the A7R5 for £400 more, and it comes with all the bells and whistles. It has better image stabilization, CFexpress memory card slots, better viewfinder, better screen, battery charger included. I think if Sony had priced the a7cR right, it would have sold well. Here's hoping the a7cR ii comes with the extra bells and whistles, if they release it that is. 🤷
