Sony A7S III | Cinematic Travel Film | Sirui Saturn 35mm Anamorphic

A cinematic travel video shot on the Sirui Saturn 35mm 1.6x anamorphic during a three weeks in NZ.
Although the 1.6x squeeze factor on a full frame sensor felt pretty wide at times, it was a fun challenge shooting everything on the 35mm. I can’t wait to get my hands on the other focal lengths when they come out!

This is STUNNING. And it's not because of Sirui exactly but your framing and camera work. I know that even in a beautiful environment, not every angle is the right one and it takes some investigation and intentional thought. AND I know when I'm traveling, I'm constantly faced with "Should I work as hard as I would on a job or also try to enjoy my vacation?" lol. You do such a great job of catching light in interesting ways and placing your subject within jaw-dropping compositions.

Mate, this is fantastic work! Did you use some diopters for the close-up shots? Also how did it manage to get the lens to beautifully soften up like that? All of the footage I've seen from the Sirui Saturns has been crazy-sharp!

Thank you man! I used some cheap +1 and +2 diopters. I also tried a +4 but the results were a bit funky haha. I did nothing special to the sharpness, except using a HBM 1/8 for the forest shots 😊

Beautiful shots and editing! Love it! Did you use a external monitor while shooting? I have a couple of these cameras and wondering if I need to buy the monitor to see the "De-Squeezed" shots to stay in focus. Any thoughts?

I did a few shots without a monitor, but it was a bit awkward on the tiny sony lcd. I'd definitely recommend using a monitor to see the desqueezed frame while filming. I used an Osee T7 😃

Hello, congratulations on the sublime work you have created. I have a question to ask you. This 1.6x factor on a sensor that shot at 16:9 and does not give the possibility of open gate, shouldn't it give a more compressed movie and with great letterboxes? Why do the ones you got seem to give a ratio of about 2:35:1?

Yes you’re right. When zooming in to a proper aspect ratio you loose a lot of of the sides

Very pretty footage. How you've blended the audio lends to the dynamic of it all as well. Also, let's be honest... The lends likes pretty girls, a lot. She looks like the OA. Music even kind of feels like it too.

Did you have any problems with the pincushion distortion it has or notice it? If so how did you correct for it. I barely notice it here but that may be due to the setting. Just curious.

I believe I adjusted the lens distortion slightly in resolve. Wasn't too big of an issue although I'd prefer some barrel distortion 😁
