At least if we exclude the people who jump into a new game, try it for a few days, and hop off when the monetization crunch comes in. Mobile games are very much built around mechanics that are effectively gambling, using psychology just like real life gambling. So like real life gambling, it tends to produce a lot of addicts.

The thing is, backwards compatibility wasn't really a necessity considering not even 5% of PS4 owners even purchased a PSVR1. . So seeing as the PSVR had such a low adoption rate, Sony really didn't have to worry much about backwards compatibility, and could instead focus on making the best headset they possibly could without being forced to stick to the PSVR framework, seeing as hardly anyone had one (compared to the total amount of PS4 owners). Some studios did take the extra steps to upgrade their games so that you could play them on PSVR2 though. But PSVR2's failure really came down to a lack of interesting first-party games, low/delayed third-party support, and MOST IMPORTANTLY *_it was more expensive than a PS5._* Had it been about $350 it would have sold out several times over (because it is a really good headset), and Sony would have had the financial motivation to continue supporting it.

I don't want to play my PSVR1 games on PSVR2, I want to play my PSVR1 games UPDATED by the devs to be playable on PSVR2, there is a lot of abandonware for PSVR1. Many devs have made free updates for their games, like Beat Saber, others have made the upgrade available behind a small price.

@@FantiR ABSOLUTELY NOT. An accessory should NEVER be more expensive than the base product. That would be like if you brought a $500 TV, but the remote for that TV was $700 dollars. Or to use your example, if the wheels were more expensive than the entire car. I think the price would have been fine HAD THE PSVR2 BEEN A STANDALONE CONSOLE. But the fact that you HAD TO have a PS5 to even use it makes it EXCESSIVELY overpriced. It should have been half the price they sold it at.

I think they should’ve just gone all in and released a standalone PSVR Portable. Yes, it would be way less powerful than the console version, but Sony could’ve just bombarded the thing with first party exclusives and VR rereleases of classic PlayStation games.

Just got one for 360... bought it second hand! People are offloading theirs and if you are lucky you can get quite a good deal. For me the announcement of a pc driver was a big incentive to buy it! Imagine having this thing for your pc lib, the oled display is really sweet! But there are a handful of titles on the lib worth playing on the ps5 as well!

Me too. I have a ton of PS VR1 games, but the reprojection on most of them always made me nauseous. I never bought PS VR2 as that's the first thing I was looking out for in reviews, and by the sounds of it, it's as though the reprojection was worse. I will wait and see what happens with any patches when PS5 PRO comes out. Will definitely wait and see if better titles come out first.

FACTS only fanatics of Gran Turismo should even think about buying this because they're the only ones getting any real use out of it

I remember looking for a PS4 Pro and a PSVR in late 2020 (pandemic) and I can tell you that the price did not go down at all. It remained at or very near the launch price. I highly doubt the price will drop, but I hope retailers and or SONY proof me wrong and that’s IF SONY drops support if rumors become true.

Funny thing is, they probably even will, if they can lower the price and get PCVR support working! The headset itself is neat!

I think psvr one was amazing especially now at the price you can get one for but psvr2 was just icing on the cake and wasn’t really worth the cost of upgrading to especially if you needed a ps5 as well mainly due to the lack of AAA games but also no real increase in fov , no wireless , no backwards compatibility for people who already had a psvr one - you can’t even post 3d Blu-ray on it whereas you could do this with the first . 🥲

I think that it's BS that they didn't make their 1st party titles Backwards Compatible. As for 3rd party, that's up to the 3rd party publishers to handle specifically. I can't blame Sony for those games. With the R&D of PSVR2, I don't blame them for not spending what would be an insane amount of money to port over every PSVR1 title. They need to make sure they have some sort of ROI.

The price is a problem unless you buy it used, which I did... shaved of 200 bucks of the price by buying it used, there are tons of people who are offloading the device now because they have played 1-2 games or simply cannot cope with vr nausea etc...

I bought PSVR1 too and I'd like to lay most of the blame on Sony but the reality is all the AAA studios left VR in the final years of PSVR1. Sony probably had PSVR2 already in the pipeline and probably felt like they had to launch it just in case. In the end the VR market has been left with indie mobile phone Wii shovelware motion gaming crap.

@@Reprogrammed_By_SEGA Meta is partially to blame for it, they cornered the VR market with their underpowered mobile headsets, so all the VR game makers are now targetting low level graphics. There are some new AAA and AA titles, like he Assassins Creed, or for instance the new Vampire game, but they are a few in between and also are coming out for the PS5 VR... PCVR has a similar problem, many oculus games are not even released on PCVR and what is left is a ton of quick oculus ports with a good game far and wide in between, but PCVR at least as a big backcatalog of good games and also a ton of mods which make existing AAA games PCVR compatible. PSVR2 does not have anything. Killing off PSVR for the PSVR2 simply was a braindead move as braindead as it could have been. Definitely sony could have added a motion tracking compatibility layer to open the lib up, they did not do it! Also their idea to get the AAA publishers on board to release VR ports of ther AAA titles instead of trying to get smaller exclusives into the market did only work for Resident Evil 7 (which already has another exclusive on PSVR). This entire thing was as Sony as it could be and reminds me a lot on the Vita! At least they have announced PCVR Support for the PSVR2 headset, so if you have a good PC this thing will be worth it after all, soon!

​@@werpu12 Ultimately I think anyone who is into PCVR has probably made their headset of choice already. If I was on PC I wouldn't get a PSVR2. It is wired, has mura, fresnel lens, HDR OLED persistence issues. I don't think there is much hope of developers using eye tracking or the haptics either due to the low user count. Not unless a Quest 4 has it and that tech may have advanced beyond the PSVR2 at that point. Also the potential that PSVR2 is looking like it is being discontinued on top of the previously mentioned issues isn't exactly a selling point either. I think ultimately Quest 3 is a better value choice for PC. PSVR2 on PC would have been a good choice 5 years ago.

This was basically my experience with the first one. I love it, but the support just isn't there, and the setup to use it is such an inconvenience that it never gets played anymore. Didn't bother with VR2, the console was expensive enough.

The software support for PS VR2 is poor. There needs to be higher budget games. I haven't bought one, but I had PS VR1 and quite a few titles, many of which made me sick due to reprojection, however. In your case, you might like to give RE8/RE4 a go, since they look great. I'd pick them up second-hand and make sure you have snap-turning on, to prevent the headaches and vomit though.

Have you played through Walking dead Saints and Sinners Ch1 and Ch2? Or Play Re4 or Re8? GT7 With a race rig is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had and I've never be a fan of racing Sims. There are plenty of games to play on PSVR2.

RE4 was released on the Quest store 2.5 years ago and it’s also been available on PC via the flatscreen to vr modding team. But yeah other than RE4 being available on the Quest and Steam VR platforms, I guess if you ignore that it’s only available on PSVR2.
