Also nice to see a bright display- vintage units only a decade old may have dim displays from being left on 24/7 for those years.

I was having issues with this model. Player would not recognize CD, or it would skip with a flawless CD. Drive belt looked ok, but I went ahead and replaced it (purchased new belt on eBay), and this completely resolved the issues (so far anyway). These units are old and I suppose the belts wear out, even if they look ok. I would not have been able to handle the repair without your helpful video, so thanks very much!

Now that's what you call a modernized player. I kept my 1993 JVC 5 disc carousel player, just in case.

Hifiengine lists this as a 1996 model. I struggle finding Sony archives on all the various models. I've owned 1987 Sony CDP-70, 1989 Denon C-615 (still own and works great). In past decade I've bought used$10 CD changers which are good when entertaining without resorting to ipods and wifi. I found two back-to-back used 1997-99 JVC XL F 154 (both from thrift store with failing power computer chip), replaced by a 1994 Sony CDP-C265 with repeated failure of encoder switch, and finally kijiji graced me with $25 mint 1992 Sony CDP-C515! Beats paying $500 for a new Yamaha changer.

Very interesting. This has been one of the most useful repair videos I've seen in a long time. Reason being that this cheap cd player, I now discover has the same mechanism as the 400 disc changers. It's a very specific variant of the KSM213 (with a metal clamp and the circuit board behind it) that I've been unable to source, so I will now be in the lookout for a faulty one of these on ebay where I'm sure such things will be worthless. Cheers!

NIce late model Sony CD player I've been hoarding thrift pickups the past decade as well, mainly 5 disc carousels but interesting single disc spinners too. I would have snagged this player too, just for the dial control and calendar display, stuff you don't see on many players, vintage or not. I have several Sony carousels with similar dial control and calendar track displays. Need to find some single disc units to round out my collection Also been favoring Sony DVD and Bluray disc players that handle SACD- basically "free" universal disc players (other than the MLP tracks on DVD Audio discs)

Good pickup for $5! My local thrift store mostly has DVD players (lost of them). For playing CDs, this is much better.

Nice work TG!. Being from 1999 this CD player was not getting much love from the factory as I bet Sony was busy tooling for the next gen of DVD players. I have a old Sony CDP-70 from the 80's I bought for $5.00 at a thrift store for the purpose of making a vid but I think there's nothing wrong with it to fix, lol

This one's just an empty box with a board and transport. Nothing like the CDP-70 or my 1985 CDP-302 which weighs more than today's receivers. But, it actually sounds very good. $5.00 well spent.

Your audio is extremely muffled and difficult to understand. No high frequencies at all.
