I absolutely love this thing. Even though it felt weird for the first couple weeks, I can't imagine playing any game without it anymore. Every game can benefit from this.

That thing kinda looks like the dualshock4 finally hit puberty.

Since Sony announced PS4 controllers will be compatible with PS5, and seeing how it came that late in the generation, I feel it is clearly a way to make DualShock 4 on par with DS5, feature-wise.

My favorite part of the Steam Controller has always been the back buttons too. I'm happy to see these become standard.

I’ve been using this attachment since release and the 3 customization settings for different games is the best feature. At first you’ll feel weird but after an hour of COD:MW you get used to it. Great on Red Dead too. It’s a great product I love it.

Hope DualShock 5 has some new features like this.

Have the PS4 attachment, and tbh it's decent but the weight/balance of the controller is thrown off a little. It not that heavy, and could just be how I hold it (I have massive hands!) - but it doesn't feel quite as nice as the Xbox Elite controller. That being said, the massive price disparity makes it hard to truly criticise that much!

The main things I bought my elite controller for were the swappable sticks and the adjustable triggers. Don't actually use the back buttons much, if at all. The included dock/charger thing is nice too. I don't think this product is really that comparable.

When I was introduced to the L/R buttons on Snes, it felt so odd. It took me forever to master the R, let alone the L. I would remap the fierce punch on the X and the Fierce kick on the A on fighting games. Then the Ps1 with it's 4, now up to 8 on the X elite. Man... I need to grow more fingers.

I don't see how you can compare a high quality purpose built elite controller with a simple attachment. It's like comparing a 1980 Skoda with a 2019 Aston Martin.

I have actually found out that I am some kind of weirdo since I use 4 fingers all the time to press shoulder buttons, most people do it with two fingers most of the time and that means that their middle fingers are ready to move between lower triggers and back buttons. My middle fingers are stuck to lower triggers and if I move them down I basicly lose lower triggers since my index finger dont have muscle memory to switch down. So I need to use my ring finger but that is bit uncomfortable.

This is a weird comparison. One is an attachment for a standard controller and the other is a very high end top of the line quality controller. They both amount to having paddles but still, it's kind of goofy. Either way, I play on PC a lot and I have always preferred the Xbox style layout over the PlayStation layout anyway. If I had a PS4 I'd still likely get the Xbox Elite controller since I would use it for PC play. But this add-on looks decent enough for a cheap and quick way to add paddle controls if you already have a standard controller.

The steam controller is probably the cheapest way to have programmable paddles on pc in a nice package

Best $30 spent, way better than I expected them to be. This is coming from someone who has never used a pro controller, and my main concern was accidentally pressing them as I have a pretty firm grip, but I have yet to press them on accident

The 3 profiles thing really isn't an issue when you can rebind whatever buttons you want in the PS4's OS settings and you can set the rebind menu you pop up in the quick menu that comes up when you push the PS button on the controller.

I hope controllers that can be separated comes back with the next generation. Essentially what the Valve Index controllers are. Gaming is so much more comfortable over long periods with wrist flexibility and stability options.

Hopefully paddles are standard on controllers in a few years so there's more games like Doom Eternal and Jumping Flash that has lots of platforming as well as shooting. Also I would like the switch gyro to be standard too.

I can honestly say the Elite controller is a game changer. I've tried some other attachable versions for Xbox and they just don't compare. Looking forward to trying some variations for the PS as well.

I used this to play The Last of Us recently. I mapped the back buttons to run and crouch as I always thought Run on L1 was cumbersome in that game. Made life so much easier. Especially playing on Survivor. Transitioning between run and aiming was so much more intuitive as opposed to holding on to both shoulder button and analog. Works awesome for Call of Duty as well. Sure I would have loved a proper Elite Dual Shock controller as the Elite Xbox controller is just SO good. But for $40, it’s an awesome work around. Really love it

Counter point: if your a PC user go out and find a Steam Controller

I went with the Xbox Elite series 2 over the Dualshock 4 with the attachment for a couple of reasons. The main reason being the Elite controller is more than just a extra set of buttons and to diminish it as simply as that is ignorant. It's the ability to swap out the analog sticks, the d-pad and the back buttons that are key. This is all accomplished without the need to unscrew any part of the controller which cannot be said for the PS4 Dualshock equivalent of the Elite 2. The other key reason is the software to create custom Elite configurations isn't hard to use at all and allows for a even greater level of customization than the competition. Microsoft's software solution reminds me of the robust Steam controller solution but not as in depth. The software customization allows the Elite 2 controller to provide a level of accuracy that you simply can't match on a Dualshock 4 unless gyro control comes into play. Analog stick sensitivity is adjustable as well as customization of dead zones, analog trigger sensitivity and full button layout customization. Three controller profiles can be saved directly to the controller and supports Xbox One, PC and even Switch as I use a Elite Controller wireless on Switch with a Brock One X adapter that adds gyro aiming. My custom profiles on the Elite are recognized when using the controller on Switch. When discussing the extra buttons they are important but not the whole story, this cannot be stressed enough. But I do give the Dualshock credit here through because even just two extra back buttons are a godsend. It's a terrible design to have jump assigned to any of the face buttons because it forces the user to take their thumb off of the right analog stick to press the jump button. In fast paced games, not only can this make you less accurate under pressure it can be the split second difference between killing your opponent or your opponent killing you. Yeah, the Elite 2 controller is expensive but it's a hell of lot more involved with it than just extra buttons. A Dualshock 4 with the attachment doesn't even match the original Elite Controller because the original Elite supports in depth customization similar to the Elite 2. On PC, neither controller is better than the Steam Controller unless fighting games come into play. Otherwise, the Steam controller gives mouse/keyboard levels of speed and accuracy in any game that requires the player to accurately shoot a target. Neither the Elite, Elite 2 or the Dualshock 4 reach that level of precision but the Elite/Elite 2 are closer to it than the Dualshock 4 even with the extra button attachment.

I use my PS4 controller also for PC and Nintendo Switch. The Xbox Elite controller is more than double the price and has no touch pad or gyro controls. The touch Pad isn't essential for PC, but it's convenient to navigate my PC from the couch, on the other hand the gyro controls are must in many Nintendo switch games.

I picked one up, as a southpaw it is a life saver for first person games without having to fiddle with the system button mapping for each individual game. Makes Doom 2016 in particular much better.

3 profiles aren't just for 3 games. You can play 10 different fps and still use the one profile for jumping and crouching. So basically having one for Shooters and action, the second one for shifting in driving games and a third one for a maybe more specific game you play. Maybe Kingdom Hearts 3

Sony has officially licensed controllers aswell which offer the same feature set of the Elite controllers. Nacon Revolution Unlimited is a great pro controller around that same price point. I don't think Sony wants to get in that market because they see what these companies can do with all these pro controllers. This back attachment offers exactly what people want: extra buttons. Nothing more, nothing less.

The elite controller is so damn premium it's like in a league of it's own. Definitely worth a purchase if you can afford it.

For pc use, the fact that the elite buttons are handled in software is actually also a positive thing. Unfortunately Microsoft doesn't allow it, but with rewasd you can map those back controllers to something other than another controller button. For instance in dragons dogma I had one pedal bound to a keyboard key and used it to drink potions in fights, something that normally is not possible with a controller without opening the menu. Unfortunately rewasd does cost money though. With Sony's solution I don't think this is possible because the conversion is all done on the controller so the PC won't know if you pressed the back button or the button it's assigned to. Other than that, personally I have to say that after using the joy that is the elite controller, it's hard to go back to a regular one, Sony or Microsoft. If you play a lot I'd say it's worth it (depending on your financial situation of course). edit: By the way, one thing that I'm not so convinced about regarding the Sony attachment... The DS4 battery life is pretty appalling, I think we all know that. So I have two controllers and switch between that, when one starts to get empty I switch it with the one that was charging. But with this I'd have to unplug and replug the extension every time too. I'm wondering how long the connectors would be alright with that.

Bought this out of curiosity seeing that I don't need it because I have a Scuf Impact controller for the PS4. But the paddles in this adapter feel way better than the stiff, small, vertical paddles on the pro controller. I would love to Sony expanding on this with the PS5 with 4 paddles. Also, with this adapter and the Magic-NS Controller adapter for the Nintendo Switch, I now have an "Elite" controller for the Switch with working gyro sensors. It is an amazing experience playing Breathe of The Wild with an easy to reach jump button.

Back buttons need to be standard and seen as unique inputs. Mapping existing inputs to back buttons is nice, but having them as options for additional input increases the range of what developers can do. I'd suggest making them optional since some people really don't like back buttons. Not only will making them unique inputs open the doors for more options it will allow for better native across games, meaning no need for profiles since it's naturally part of your custom controller scheme.

Everything about the elite 2 controller is fucking awesome, chargeable battery, you can put your controller in the pouch and charge it, keep it from safe. Just everything about the elite 2 is fire 🥊🥊🔥🔥🔥

It's super expensive online now because of people reselling it for higher prices. I was able to get it day one on amazon for 30 dollars and it's amazing. Can't play without it these days. Shame Sony didn't make more, I always see people looking for them.

Like the elite series 2 a lot but my first once had some issues. It powered off randomly and the left thumbstick failed to center, so I sent it to Microsoft under warranty and in 2 weeks I got a replacement. Mostly likely it was a repair of a different controller because it had an issue as well. The left bumper didn't work, so I sent it to Microsoft and 3rd time is a charm. This one works fine, like the controller a lot but took a while before I could even use it.

No matter what Dualshock 4 is still the best controller ever with all of it's feature. This is coming from a PC player. I've got both the Xbox and DS4.

As someone who had a PS4 and not an Xbox, I am not all that interested in comparing the back buttons to the Elite controller. I'm more interested in how this attachment compares to the controller thats blimming well sitting on the shelf behind you guys, the Razer Raiju. Also marking it down because you can't be arsed disconnecting the attachment so you can plonk it in a dock is really clutching at straws.

I personally prefer the DS4 on PC as I can control the mouse with the touchpad and it really opens up many other use cases for the PC once you can easily and intuitively control pretty much the whole thing with one controller remotely.

released at the final year of PS4 lifecycle, $30 is just slightly less than a new controller, and the biggest downside is that it has compatibility issue and might just not work on your older version controllers. I've tried on my sunset orange gen 5, the led doesn't light up, the buttons does nothing, only headphone jack works normally, it also caused my controller disconnect from PS4 several times.

I like the ease of having the button mapping on the controller, but the Xbox software lets you map any button to any other button. I hope Sony does that at some point.

Gotta give major props to Sony. For a device that is an an attachment, it feels perfect, as though its actually sculpted into the controller. I hope the DS5 has four buttons that implements into the controller in a similar fashion (without the attachment of course) It feels better than the paddles on my Power A Xbox controller or the paddles on the Steam Controller, which are a bit of cheese, because they are really part of the battery door (but they work fine).

Never has anything compared to toilet paper been considered a compliment....until now.

Great review as always and Judd doing really well too. This sure is a great piece of accessory and I really would like to have it, but sadly not available or only auctioned at crazy prices. This reminds so much of PSVR shortage. It‘s silly. People want it but can‘t get it. I tried day one everywhere and everywhere out of stock. Wonder when we get new copies of it.

My preferred option for PC is the Steam Controller. They're the ones that really started the back button trend, and I like the touchpad+gyro combo. Still hoping for a V2.

Don't buy an elite controller. I hear the term *premium* being thrown around alot about the xbox elite controller in this video. I have gone through 3 elite controllers in a span of 5 months. Out of the 3, the first elite controller had the rubber underneath peel off from the heat of my hands. The second controller had the right bumper breaking from normal use. And the 3rd controller had both the bumper breaking and the rubber starting to peel off from the heat of my hands. In conclusion, the xbox one elite controller cannot be labeled as a premium product since it has incredibly poor durability. It is a cheap product made out of premium material at a premium price. Its better to buy a stock controller as they are a lot more durable or go for the cheapest option for paddles, knowing that you wont have to spend as much when it breaks.

Nothing against that addon, but how is the most important feature of the XboX Elite Controller those back buttons. o.O What kind of argument is that? I and several of my friends bought it mainly for the replaceable sticks/dpad and the heavey weight and feel... I haven't used the back buttons ones. Haven't finished the video yet but that point really sounds like a setup/strange arguement to make.

Would be great if you could use two buttons on each back button.
