Agreed, I can understand not having internal ND due to the small form factor, but not having shutter angle seems like a design choice inconsistent with a "cinema" line of cameras. Doesn't make it useless, but I feel like there was confusion at Sony as to what this camera was supposed to be.

It makes perfect sense to me. With all those holes there is no need for a cage and combined with the absence of a viewfinder, it can now fit in large pockets - great news when you are travelling on planes often. In addition, the fan is a welcome move and I love all those red lights that glow up when you are recording - a real help when you are more often than not recording yourself. Great for making KZfaq videos. I don't know what shutter angle is so I guess I won't miss that. I think the word 'cinema' is a bit misleading. It's more for small productions.

I'm sorry but shutter-angle is a minor detail - how often do you switch between frame-rates, and how hard is it changing the shutter speed instead? A waveform does no good on such a small screen anyway - recon most people will get an external monitor for waveform, falsecolor and so forth anyway. Nice compromis for the size, and a nice feature to be able to adjust in scale in rigging

@@thokeJackass The thing that bugs me about not having shutter angle is that it's so trivial to implement and there can't possibly be a hardware limitation that prevents it from existing. Plus, virtually every other serious video camera has it so it's a little comical to exclude it in a camera that has "cinema line" printed on it. If anything, the term "cinema camera" now just means that the camera has at least two 1/4"-20 screw holes on the body. It's a pretty great convenience too. The FX3 can shoot in many different framerates, so if you're shooting a wedding or something and you're switching even just a few times between 24p and 120p, it's nice to just set the shutter angle once and just never have to worry about how your motion blur looks again. There's enough stuff going on in a shoot already that being able to set something and forget about it is a valuable tool to avoid making a mistake later.

I really really wish this is something they added and when I asked Sony at Pinewood they said it would take away from the FX6, which I understand but it would have been a killer feature. Especially considering the BMPCC6K Pro has just done it for a lot less money!! Jake

@@CVPTV That's really kinda frustrating and honestly dumb, especially if it really was dictated more by marketing rather than engineering abilities. I mean, FX6 is kinda weird camera anyways - no mic inputs without that top handle, AF interface is really stupid, and the menus are kinda weird as well. Maybe instead of going Canon way of crippling cameras, they should've added ND to FX3 and then later update FX6 as well with Mark 2 version, adding new menus, AF tap to focus and track system, etc. I just sincerely hope Sony won't turn into Canon, and start using that cripple hammer on their cameras.

@@CVPTV thanks for asking and telling us that. At least it's an honest answer from them I guess. Not sure I'd agree with them that it takes away from the FX6 as it's a completely different form factor and lacks SDI/Genlock. Yeah it's why I ordered a 6K Pro. A small form factor with ND, big bright screen and EVF is exactly the camera I needed for travel work. FX3 could have been a consideration if ND was in there.

I have the FX6, I’d have bought the FX3 as a B cam/ travel cam, if it had internal ND. But no ND = no purchase, sorry CVP.

@@MarcusGainesCoasterTouring yeah it's weird isn't it. A FX3 with ND would be the perfect B camera to an FX6 instead without ND you may as well save the money and get the A7siii. Especially as the XLR audio module is less important if you already have sound going into the FX6.

True, but FX6 is also a bit of a stupid camera: clunky AF selection, no freaking audio on a relatively big body (compared to mirrorless cameras), mediocre menu, plus it’s substantially more expensive. Almost feels like FX6 should be now updated to the Mark 2 version or something.

The A7S III doesn't have a record limit no. The difference is the fan that the FX3 has so it should be more reliable for longer recording sessions. Jake

You cannot turn off the noise reduction like you can in the FX6. Jake

@@CVPTV Blows my mind why they wouldn't include these simple things to seperate it from the A7sIII for professionals. Just add the option to disable noise reduction, add shutter angle, and have true 24p recording and you would instantly had justification for working professionals to use it over the A7sIII.

PTC was shot on C200. B-roll of FX3 was FX9. Theres one shot on Komodo of FX6 outside! Jake

Yeah that is a real headscratcher for me as well, why would you not ad at least a hole for the tripod plate to prevent twisting. The S1H has this!

No bias, and actually if you rewatch the video I think my conclusion for the Pocket 6K was much more positive!

Not really the same price tag. And it’s certainly not a boring camera, in fact the FX3 have some better specs than the FX9, like high frame rates, tracking AF, and no need for an additional €2500 adapter just to output RAW video. Only lacks the built-in variable ND. It’s quite an exciting camera actually.

That can be added with a future firmware update.

@@ResizeFilms Yes, but I wouldn't buy a camera in the hopes of getting a firmware update. You never know if Sony will deliver.
