It's an awesome looking clock, but things end there. Apart from saying that the volume is good and radio works well, there is nothing much to say good about this. Poor quality, difficult to tune manual tuner, flimsy buttons. The major disappointment is that the clock only shows 24 hour format time. Sony sells 12 hour format version only in few countries. If you are planning to buy this and want 12 hour time, check whether the one sold in your country supports 12 hour time.
Glass - Pathetic Quality - By the end of this video, there were some finger prints on the awesome glass front. Wiped the glass with micro fiber and by the time I completed the glass it was full of micro scratches/scuffs. Such poor is the glass/acrylic quality. If you have the habit of dusting and cleaning home everyday, imagine what this radio will look like after a week.
After looking at this glass, I can only term this radio as CRAP. Awesome design, mediocre functionality and crap quality. Stay away from it.
I wish I had said this in the video itself, but video is uploaded already.
Heat - By the time the video is uploaded, there is burnt plastic smell around the radio. Nothing is burnt yet and it is working, but the smell is also there and I hope it doesn't burn. (Update: It's almost 2 years, the smell seems to have subsided, and no, it did not burn)
Update: 23 Feb 2017 - As on today, the clock radio is still working as it did on day 1. I didn't even change the internal battery(the power cuts in my area are considerably reduced now). The clock goes ahead/behind and needs to be set once every three/four months. Other than for setting the clock, we do not even touch this radio, thats our usage scenario. It is placed high, tuned to the same station since day 1, alarm set to start at 6am every day. In this scenario, it is working as it did when new. All my comments, positive and negative still hold good. It is a half hearted, half baked product from Sony. We do not clean the screen because it is very scratch prone. When we set the clock, we just blow off the dust.

Bought this clock at Farm and Fleet on clearance. Now I see why. I just wanted a clock that didn't set itself without a manual set option because we DO NOT get a signal for self-setting clocks. It said on the box to refer to the directions to set. There was no paperwork whatsoever in the box. No instructions. No warranty. I set it by accident just playing with the buttons! Now, the time has changed and I can't get it to the right time. At some point it had jumped 6 minutes and the alarm didn't set to the right time so I get up earlier than necessary. I needed this video!

Had this clock for a about 4 or so years. Very good clock and radio. Never used it as an alarm so I didn’t know how good it was. Ended up getting a Lenovo smart clock with Google assistant in it so I gave this to my sister and she uses it well 👍🏼

I bought the C1T today and after setting the time and alarm, I think it’s just fine. The radio is very good as the sound is loud and clear. I just want to wake up hearing my favorite radio station and I’ll be ok.😁

Vishki, I guess I have been fortunate with my purchase of this product several years ago. After years of cheap alarm clocks with battery back ups that almost never worked after the power went out. I'm 52, so you can see I have dealt with this for a lot of years. I did a little more research and trusted the people's online opinions for this clock. So far I am very happy. I don't even need to change the time when daylight savings occurs. Now I don't use the radio, I sleep in a lower level below ground and radio reception is sketchy. I love that I can lower the brightness of the display. The "buzzer" which is more like watch beeps, only louder, is great for waking me up without startling me like previous clocks. There are more expensive alternatives, that can use a fitbit device and a smart phone to wake at the correct point of your sleep cycle but for $20 at Walmart, I'm very satisfied.

I have this Sony clock radio and like it. It is small and neat, and it is easy to set the time and the separate alarms. Sony commonly uses the button marked "off" that is below the letters "alarm reset" to turn off the radio.

We have only had this clock for a few months. We never used the radio or alarm or any of the features. It strictly sat beside the bed to tell time. Tonight, three times, it came on by itself with a horrible loud static sound for a few seconds each time and then shut down again. Scared the crap out of me. I've unplugged it and dumped it.

Corine Green That is one of the issues. It is because of the mobile phone. It keeps making that sound irrespective of volume and alarm setting. I hear it a couple of times every day(even when the mobile phones are 6 feet away) and I'm used to it.

I just got mine today, needed a clock asap so I randomly grabbed this one in the shop (having seen the price and producer). It doesn't look to be that bad, after all it's just a clock, I'm not expecting it to do a lot of crazy different things, the only thing I regret is the fact that It could have been added at least an AUX port..

I got some troubles with the display of the ICF-C1T. One of the LED segments disappeared from the first digit. I suppose there is a bad electrical contact but I don't know how to fix it. May I ask for someone's help?

I have this clock, bought new at an "overstock" type store a couple years ago. I have another very significant complaint to add to the list of cons. I don't know if this has something to do with 50hz vs 60hz power, but this clock loses quite a lot of time. After a year, the clock can be behind by about 10 minutes.

No Name; yes includes VAT@ 20%. Current exchange rates: £20 = €23.60 = $24.90 = ₹1665.90. Hmm... closer than I thought! Are we (Europe and America) in fact all drifting towards parity? Anyway, the product is not particularly good quality and is a deeply uninspired and lazy design.

Very sneaky of Sony; the device *looks* really modern. The made an older "Dream Cube" that had a digital clock that also used the digital display for radio frequency. Just like you stated, the thumbwheel tuner with top-located frequency peep-hole window is 50 year old technology at best. In fact even then (and now) only the cheapest clock radios from bargain (dollar) stores and flea markets would be like that. Sony should be ashamed to have their name on something like this. Incidentally, the 12/24 hour clock selection is likely one pin on the clock chip being referenced to ground or not. Even though Sony didn't include an external selector, if you open the clock radio to get the number from the clock chip, and find the chip datasheet online, you should be able to switch to 12 hour mode; obviously Sony is doing this for different regions. My personal preference even being in Canada where almost all clocks are sold with 12 HR AM/PM, I prefer 24 HR because there is no mistaking setting the alarm for 7 PM instead of 7 AM. The problem is inconsistency... some clocks use one dot for AM and another for PM, while others go cheap and just use one dot for either AM OR PM. Co-worker arrived two hours late at work last week because her husband made this exact mistake setting the alarm, and thought the dot was for AM, when it was actually PM... there is no mistaking 07:00 and 19:00 !!!

Thank you for your review. Can you advise me some clockradios that keep working (At least let the alarm go off) when there is a power outage? I have a hard time finding one here in Belgium and even in various shops they can't help me. Clockradios like this sony but also others, for example the Philips AJ3400 don't work ( won't give alarm) during power surges. They only remember the time. Battery only clocks give no light in the dark, so i'm no good with those.

A bit late... Casio PQ-15 (1K) is decent. Had mine for years still works. Not a clock radio, but just a "travel" alarm that runs off of batteries. Good battery life on 2X AA, and alarm is decently loud, also shows ambient room temperature and date. Doesn't look like much, but in my experience it's been more than reliable.

That is for the year. Clock does not display the date anyway. I think it uses the calendar internally for DST.

VISHKI hey, this is written in the manual. "The sound turns off, but will automatically come on again after about 10 minutes. Each time you press SNOOZE/BRIGHTNESS, the snooze time changes as follows: 10>20>30>40>50>60. The display shows the snooze time for about 4 seconds and returns to show the current time."

I had two of this, and changed it, everything is perfect, they looks amazing, quality is amazing, sound really good, BUT... they both going slower and slower everyday, after a month you will loose one minute, another month one more, in was drove me to drink!!! Yes, it’s not hard do it forward again manually, but I want to work it perfect! I thought it’s because I didn’t use battery, I bought and put it inside, it was the same, nothing changed, went slower and slower, then a went to the Amazon’s reviews, and every second person was talking about this problem, you can check it in reviews under the product.

I am in the US so I get the 12 hour clock. I have had the clock for several years and it does not keep accurate time. They have tried to make it too automatic which makes it hard to correct the clock if it is a few minutes off. When daylight saving time hits it is not easy to get the correct hour.

The same alarm clock in available in Canada. The differences are: battery was pre-installed, clock was already set for EST time zone, no antenna cable provided, 12 hour time only. I personally prefer 24 hour time, therefore I am irritated with the inability to switch between 12/24 time formats. The unit is normally priced at $ 19.99 CAD but luckily it bought it on sale for $ 9.99 CAD which equals 546 Rupee.

maclovindotca CAD 9.99 is really a real good deal. In india it costs almost 40CAD(due to import duties). here we prefer 12 hour time and it is available in 24hr format. Whats annoying is that it is missing such a simple option of switching between formats.

Thank you so much for the review. I am currently looking for a radio with usb port where i can use as radio/clock or usb table light...I'm not getting this radio clock for sure. All I can say about Sony's products is the quality is not good as they used to be, i used to be very confident with Sony because the CD walkman i have ages ago is still working till today but the cd player died after just 3 years.

+Nicholas Ter Berg Are you sure it has an option to select 12/24 hr? They might have updated the firmware in newer ones and thats good. The last I know, it will ship as either 12hr or 24hr model depending on the country of sale.

Does anyone know how to set the sleep timer? I pres the sleep button and set it to 30 min to fall in sleep with radio and when I wake up it is still on. It does not go out after the time I set. Am I doing something wrong ;)

I bought this Sony clock (in Canada) expecting it to keep accurate time, but it loses at least 1 second per day. After a month, the time gets behind by a minute or more, and the clock keeps losing time as the weeks go by. I returned the first clock I bought to Sony for this reason, they sent me a replacement, but the new one also loses time, so there must be some defect with these ICF-C1 clocks. The radio works ok, but as a time-keeping device, not so much. My vintage Radio Shack LED clock from 30 years ago keeps better time than the Sony.

What I dont understand is how you gave the unit a negative for loosing time/alarm functionality when there is a power outage, where earlier in the video you inserted a battery that preserves time/alarm functionality.....

CorruptAssassin because of the battery, the unit remembers the alarm and keeps the clock running internally in case of a power failure. So you do not have to set the time and alarms again after power resumes. While internally it keeps running, it will not display the time and the alarm will not sound if the power is not there.

I'm not even aware/forgot it has a battery indicator. May be in your case, battery is weak, it may be still sufficient to keep it working but may fail soon when the battery goes dead. May be time to change the battery.

I bought mine a couple of years ago. Always had issues with it. It runs 10 to 15 minutes slow. I have to reset the time manually regularly. The buttons are not so responsive now. The manual tuning is a pain as the slightest touch will lose the tuned in radio station so some mornings just get hissing. As V said, bought because of the Sony brand. Wish I had not bought it!

Soham Medda It's actually very low and the camera couldn't pick up. Soound gets better after a few seconds though it is still only as good as a wrist watch buzzer.

+T Chowdhury U yes, it has a coin battery for keeping time in case of power outage. It keeps the internal clock memory, but does not display time. Alarm does not work during power outage.

In this day and age, Sony what were you thinking: Manual tuning, 24hr format, Mono speaker, no input options of external music like iPod etc? Do you even know, it is 2014? Power Failure: All these are devices are marketed mainly in developed countries, where power failure is really rare. So, there is no solution for Indian market. Philips has good range of digital tuning clock radios. I bought one after comparing to Sony ones.

Pritish Bhansali Glad my video helpted. Check Philips clock radios, I think they have some good models though they do not look as hot as this Sony, I think functionally they are much better.

I have one; i think its lived up to my standards. This is the material you would find on all alarm clocks. The buttons arent flimsy and they have a nice, quality click to them. In my opinion, i think this is a great clock but if you dont like it, you shouldnt have gone hardcore on it. It does the job. Go get another timex.

Apparently Sony isn't what they were 30 years ago. But try to do better for $20 outside of going to a thrift store... Anything else seems to be Chinese mystery brands that don't really have much of a reputation. (Anyone remember when RCA, Panasonic, Toshiba, GE, and other reasonably recognizable good quality names had offerings?)

WAS GONNA BUY THIS ALARM CLOCK FOR MY DAD, BECAUSE THE DISPLAY SEEMED PERFECT AND BRIGHT, BUT THANKS TO THE VIDEO I NOTICED THE FLICKER, WICH WOULD HAVE DROVE HIM INSANE AS HES A BIT OCD LOL, THANK U SO MUCH FOR SAVING ME THE 20$, THOUGH JUST TO BE CERTAIN U DID SAY THAT SPECIFICALLY IN THE VIDEO RIGHT? THATS NOT JUST THE CAMERA YOU USED PLAYING TRICKS ON ME? APOLOGIES REALLY SICK RIGHT NOW SO HARD TO TELL

It's been a couple of years since I posted this review. LED flicker is not an issue I remember mentioning in the video. I still have this radio and no there is no flicker. Flicker you noticed in video must be due to camera. What I do remember is that the light is not spread evenly throughout the led segment(some). So in some segments the ends are darker than the middle of segment. But no flicker.
