Yes they are, and they were super expensive when they were new. Close to 1000.00 for that set. They were popular in RV's trailers and boats because they were AC/DC sets, and of course were also monitors.I'll never part with my little 8" Trinitron. For that matter I will be hanging onto the few tube sets I have as collector pieces. Same with my plasma sets. I'll hang on to a few of them as well, just because they are cool the way they operate. LCD sets are just boring. If an LCD dies I am more inclined to toss it as opposed to trying to fix it. I only own 1 LCD set, and that is my 4K test monitor in the studio that I use for checking video quality on. Everything else I have is plasma. LCD, and I am referring to the LED backlight type) have improved greatly since the early ones, but still don't have the contrast, refresh rate, and viewing angle of plasma. OLED looks promising if they can get the price down.

I like small crts. 5" 8"

I got that set for free about 25 years ago. The owner dropped it and broke the cabinet and PCboard. I repaired it, but I explained that I couldn't guarantee the repair because it had been dropped, and something might fail down the road, so they said chuck it and bought a new one for their camper. So I took it home. Great little monitor. It is part of my collection of small TVs. I have a 2" Sony Watchman (B/W flat tube) 4" Sony Watchcam monitor (Flat tube) Panasonic CT101 1.5" color CRT (delta matrix tube) Sony Vidimagic single sube video projector (indextron tube) and a 14", 19", 20" and the last 21" trinitron model that Sony made as well as a few B/W monitors and sets, and some vintage video equipment. Beta, VHS, SVHS and 3/4" decks.I ahve a few old production ENG cameras and a professional ENG camera as well from back in my video production days.

Wow that's a bit of a collection, I only have a few sets mainly for vhs tapes and old games now. i actually worked at the Panasonic factory in cardiff for a few weeks putting crts together on the line after I left school. I don't think I ever seen crt as small as 1.5" is it from a camera viewfinder do you have a video on that? I picked up a very unusual crt myself recently some sort of russian sony trinitron it has a really comprehensive chassis I never seen a set with so many adjustments.

I have a few small 14`` sets I use mainly for video projects. I generally get a tech friend to plant a few faults in. Put in a shorted transistor or cap, or open resistor and not tell me the fault and do a trouble shooting video on them. I use small sets only because they are easy to store, and the circuitry is the same. I have a few Panasonic sets. One I leave outside all year long so that moisture gets to it and creats a real fault that I can then troubleshoot.

I used to have a indextron, which is a 3.5" color indextron tube. It uses a single gun monochrome type tube to produce color by using an index stripeon the back side of the tube that would create an index strobe, read by a photo transistor mounted on the bell of the tube. This index signal was used to synchronize the TDM color switching that would switch R,G,B,i,R,G,B,IThe "I" is the index which was a blue flash on the inside of the tube for the index pilot. I had one given to me, but if I remember the filament of the tube was open, and the tube unavailable. I do have the manual, and perhaps that would be good for a review some time, as this was a completely unique set that nobody else ever made. I also used to have a 5" citizen color set. Don't know what ever happened to that one either. Think the tube got broken on it.

Looking at it again, it is just the screw areas on the back that are broken. The tape was a precaution to keep it from coming apart. The board has a crack but I fixed that in 1990

2nd anode voltage can be upwards of 25kv on a color CRT and 10kv on black and white tubes. Larger tubes can be 30kv.

If it uses a raster scan like a conventional monitor it sounds like the screen cap is going bad.

I don't doubt he could fix anything if it was feasible. He has a great talent.

The problem with Trinitron was the relatively low resolution of the tube. That is why they looked so good, Even though the circuitry could pass 500 lines of resolution they tube couldn't resolve more than about 220due to all the color stripes being relatively wide. When I worked in broadcast engineers would look at tapes on Conrac or Tektronix monitors for quality checks as they could see phasing problems, color sync issues and all kinds of problems that may have made the tape unairable, yet the same tape played on the same video machine looked perfrect on the Sony studio monitor.I used to have an old KV25XBR but I chucked it because the big red HV resistor that sets the static convergence had failed and was arcing.

12voltvids That's the part I'm kind of worried about with my PVM; how much longer the resistor block between the anode and the flyback will last. And, I guess that's a mixed bag, about the resolution of the tube; for critical analysis, it's a problem but, for consumers, it may be just fine. For the Conrac and Tektronix monitors, I wonder what CRTs they used (obviously, a brand of shadow mask tubes; wonder if they may be Panasonic or Philips).

Conrac monitors used.... wait for it.... CONRAC tubes! Yes they built their own CRT, or had a tube factory make tubes to their spec. I have 2 Conrac color monitors, made in the USA in California. Absolutely. They show ALL the flaws on video. Check out the link I included on my time base corrector video and you will see how it shows time base errors and jitter in the video.I will be doing a demo on t hat monitor giving it a picture from a broadcast camera so that the quality can be shown off, as looking at home video on it looks horrible. It shows all the noise in the chroma from consumer stuff, but a good signal from a professional camera will really shine on it. I'll fire up my JVC broadcast camera and hook that directly to the monitor.

Actually I got that one from the shop I worked at. The little old lady that probably paid 600 of more for it. Her grandson pulled it down and broke the circuit board and cabinet. It came into the shop and I repaired it. Repair was probably about 90.00 and the shop owner said "Because it has been dropped we can't guarantee how long the fix will last" so she said chuck it and bought another one. Since I was piece work, and had already done the repair I just took it home, and it has been working perfect ever since. I used to haul it out to video shoots to check camera color ect when I was doing production work. Been a real work horse, and has been thrown around for years in and out of my truck, out to venues. I used to shoot a ton of junior hockey games for the coaches and scouts. Out for 6AM games several times a week with my big broadcast camera. Was an easy 100 bucks in my pocket for every game. Would set up this monitor on table on the scaffold I was perched on and sit back and film the game in comfort.

I do too and I have 32", 24"and 12" sanyos, 1995 Samsung which took the place of my flat screen in my bedroom because I had now HDMI stuff to plug in to it. my 1984 tmk 5" w/b TV/radio and finally my 1975 ge hybrid set which still works with my old roku with rf modulator .

I have a few CRT sets that I am collecting. Still use one on the patio, and one in my transfer room because I am looking at old analog tapes.

I had a nice 34' CRT HDTV set that I gave away, and the person I gave it to threw it out! Would love to have that set now. It had a fantastic picture when displaying HD content.

The only way you will get stereo sound over RF for an analog stsreo TV is with a stereo modulator. Years ago Radio Shack sold such a unit, and it was switchable channel 3 and 4, but it was low power so it had to be connected directly to the TV by cable.What you need to find is a used commercial head end modulator such as a Blonder Tongue CAM-S60 such as the one I picked up in the surplus bin at a local electronics shop for 50.00. See my video of it here.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hrV-lcxn27TUpnWH.htmlhis unit has a +60dB output, as it was designed to go into an RF combiner, where signals from all the other modulators in a cable head end are mixed together to combine all the channels.With a +60dB output it is more than strong enough to drive an amplifier (transmitter) but of course that would be illegal. Never the less, connecting the output to a home made dipole puts out enough signal that I can receive it throughout my house. As you probably notice that when I tune to channel 12, that is the BT signal, it is perfect, and there is no antenna on the set or on the modulator. My 6 modulators (4 VHF and 2 UHF) are all connected to splitters to combine the signals, and then are split to go to every outlet in the house, as well as the off air signals from my odd air antenna is added. The mixed signals, (off air and internally generated analog) are then spilt and head to 12 outlets throughout the house. So, this signal here, with just an 8`wire hanging off the coax in no way represents what comes out of the modulator, as it is probably closer to 0dB by the time it gets mixed and split. When I first got the unit I connected an antenna, and it reached throughout the house, and well out into the back yard. I have several other commercial modulators that have a good signal output, but none as strong as the CAM-S60. The others are not stereo sound either, except for the weak little Radio shack, which required a 20dB cable amp added to it just so it would be strong enough to get through the cable system in the house!

Yes the H out may have shorted. That would have to be tested with a meter. Quie often the solder will crack on the H drive transformer. Loss of drive will cause the H out transistor to short.

I wouldn't attempt myself. I really appreciate the information! I don't even know if this is the case right now since I had it plugged into a Monster surge protector and just now am doing the power cycle test (unplug for a while.) fingers crossed.

When I was in the repair business a repair of the horizontal deflection when only the horizontal output was blown was generally in the 100 range by the time labour and taxes were factored in, but that was early 2000's. If the cause is the flyback, which is also entirely possible, it would drive up the cost.

That's like the hours I spent on one of my SLHF1000 decks that had no picture chasing through the video circuit only to find the muting transistors "on" and being biased on by the "Black" switch on the front panel. DOH!Yes that repair is up on the channel too, it is a good theory and signal tracing exercise.

Flybacks rarely fail. Certain brands had bad runs of them. Unless it is one that had a manufacture problem it is unlikely it is bad.
