This camera is so old there might be way better choices for a bit more money out there now. But if your friend is able to find it for dirt cheap then yes this is a pretty good camera. Takes good pictures too.

I used Premiere Pro on Windows. The color grading was just basic color correction, adding contrast and playing around with the shadows, but the colors themselves are straight out of camera. Thanks for watching!

I believe it was a cheap fotga adapter but I've owned a few dumb adapters and it doesn't really matter the brand as long as they're metal (most of them are anyway)

I used the 100mm f2.8 series E nikon and the 50mm f1.8 series E. What would you like me to cover in the video? If you Google Mathew Durr's review on the lens, he gives a lot of good information on it.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I value 60fps recording for the slow motion. It helps a lot for making footage look cinematic and smooth if you're using unstabilized lenses. The NEX does not have it; the Canon has it in 720p if you're willing to shoot at that resolution. Another thing to compare is native lenses. Canon has a wide selection of native lenses at very good prices. Sony has an ok selection of native lenses and the prices are quite high in comparison. Recently theres more third party manufacturers like Sigma making lenses for the Sony E mount that are quite good in price and image quality. One big advantage with the mirrorless cameras is that you can adapt almost any lens to them. I LOVE using inexpensive vintage lenses on my Sony cameras (I come from Nikon DSLR so I have a bunch of Nikon lenses I can use on the Sony). A $100 speedbooster can give you extra light gathering abilities on the Sony; basically the full frame look (focal length and background blur) and more light. You can't do this on the Canon. If you're gonna be using cheap manual lenses, the Sony (or other mirrorless) is the winner in my opinion. Focus peaking is HUGE help when focusing with manual lenses. This is pretty much the only reason why I ditched my DSLRs for mirrorless cameras. If size is a concern for you, the Sony's tiny body makes it really comfortable to pack and carry around anywhere. Their 16-50 kit lens is also the smallest and most compact kit lens of any APS-C camera. If the decision was mine, I would go Sony, if the choice is only between these two. Personally though, I would save up a bit more and get the next cheapest option in the NEX line up that has 60fps recording: the NEX 5R (it also has phase detect AF which is faster and more accurate than contrast detect). If you're not convinced by mirrorless and want to go the Canon DSLR route, I would save up a bit more and get something that can do 60fps recording. I don't know much about Canon cameras but I know there are several entry level Canon cameras that can be hacked with Magic Lantern which allows for a lot of extra features for video (higher bitrate and color profiles I believe. Among other things). Definitely look into that. If you want very good AF, a Canon camera with dual pixel AF is definitely a very viable option. I'm sorry if this was quite long. I just wanted to give more context as to why I would go with Sony and why you shouldn't discount the Canon system for that. If you have any other doubts, let me know.

I wouldn't be able to tell you because I personally have not used any Canon camera. Low light on the F3 is ok/good. In the video you can see that in the night scenes (like the one in the thumbnail), the camera does pretty well, albeit, I was using a 50mm f1.4. However, like I mentioned, if you get a cheap $100 speedbooster (I personally have a Viltrox Nikon to NEX speedbooster) you can get the full frame low gathering capabilities of the lenses. There are no speedbosters for Canon DSLRs.

I would say it's decent. I just made a video public on my channel called "Hola antonito". There you can see the performance of the camera using the kit lens in low light and how the microphone does in a vlog. You'll also see that the low light is OK but not great although I was using a "Flat" picture profile which boosts the shadows, showing a lot more noise. If you look at the rest (not the shadows) the detail is fairly good. You'd probably need some sort of wind muff on the mic for outdoor use, otherwise the wind will wreck your audio. Go skim through the vid and if you have any other questions let me know.

Yes, the whole video was recorded using the NEX F3 with the Nikkor Series E 50mm f1.8 and 100mm f2.8. I did do a bit of color grading. I don't remember my camera settings but I think I might have set the "Creative Style" to have a flat picture by reducing contrast, saturation and sharpness so its easier to color grade

Depends on which compact camera but I would say it's certainly usable. Only thing I'd dislike for vlogging is no mic jack,but the af is good enough in my opinion. The 5n, for pure film making (not vlogging) I would give it the edge over the f3 because it has better af and a touchscreen which could be useful for focus pulling for some people but if I'm correct, it doesn't have a flip screen (might be wrong) so a bit harder to use for vlogging. Also the battery life on these little cameras is terrible

@Sam Greenfield yea I know it has a flip screen, I means the 5n. For less than 300 it'd be hard. I'm not too familiar with cameras at that price range and it also depends on what exactly you want to do with it and what you'd like to get from it. Edit: I checked and the 5n does have a flip screen. If it's between the F3 and the 5N, I'd take the 5N. However, the F3 can do most of what the 5N can do. It seems to be that the 5N doesn't have much of anything better than the F3 except for the touchscreen.

@@samttv7105 what kind of audio are you looking to get? What kind of spaces will you be filming in? (Will there be a lot of wind?). If you give examples of other KZfaqrs that you'd want to mimick (in terms of camera quality) I could maybe suggest something. In terms of a laptop, I'm not that familiar with. I edit on a PC. I'd think that any laptop around 500 dollars new could do the job. If you look for used stuff you might get better value

Monopod, steadicam, gimbal could be used. The easiest way is probably to use warp stabilizer but that works best when using wide angle lenses and you will also lose some resolution. Keep in mind that most of the shots taken in this video were with 50mm or 100mm lenses which are 75mm and 150mm full frame equivalent on APS-C. Short telephoto lenses like that will have much more noticeable shaking compared to wider angle lenses. Good thing about the camera is that if you decide to go gimbal/steadicam route, it is so light that you could go with the cheaper options available out there (like the Zhiyun Crane M for example, which is 240USD new compared to the more expensive Zhiyun gimbals at 500 to 1000 dollars).

I don't have the project file for this video anymore but I believe I just used the premiere pro export preset for KZfaq 1080p. In terms of video settings, I recorded everything in AVCHD, 1080p 24fps, the highest data rate codec with the lowest fps to get the best quality of footage.

You have a few options. If you're using manual lenses, you can use a simple dumb adapter. If you're using Nikon AF-D or AF-G lenses, you need a dumb adapter that also has a ring to control the aperture (viltrox makes one which I own and costs around 30 dollars). And if you want to take full advantage of the lenses, get a speedbooster (viltrox also makes a good quality one for around 100 dollars). If you want to be able to use auto focus, there are no options to adapt Nikon to Sony that work reliably. Canon is the only brand that mounts well on Sony in terms of auto focus

I'd recommend Sony lenses to use the AF. Sigma has a few budget options and a couple more expensive (the 30mm f1.4 and 16mm f1.4) options that are regarded as some of the best APS-C lenses for Sony. Sony also has their native 50 and 35mm lenses for APS-C that work really well. For this camera, I can't recommend adapted lenses at all if you want AF. First, I'm not sure if they would work at all and second, the AF on this camera is not that great. For adapting Canon to Sony you would need to go to at least the a6000, a7 or a5100

If you get any cheap 50mm f1.8 lens and an adapter, you can get 90% of what I filmed here. You can get A LOT of good stuff with the kit lens. Learn how to use it. Focus on composition and lighting and finding interesting subjects and you can get really far with the kit lens. The only things you will not be able to get with a kit lens is shallow depth of field (although at 55mm if you get close enough to the subject, you will get pretty blurry backgrounds. just not as blurry as a 50mm f1.8, or any lens faster than f2.8). And you won't be able to get clean low light videos, especially with an NEX F3. For example, in this video, the shots filmed at night (the one that appears in the thumbnail), are filmed using a 50mm f1.4 Ill be glad to answer any other questions!

There's a kind of a vlogging test on my channel titled "hola Antonito" where I used this camera if you wanna look at some footage. This camera is really old but if you can find it for less than 100 dollars with the kit lens I would say it could work as a vlogging camera. It's just missing a mic jack if you're into having good audio.

There is no dedicated movie mode on this camera, only the 'record' button which you can press from any mode. So if you wanted to use a manual movie mode you'd go on the manual mode and press record

@@kint3300 Yes, you can do manual or auto. It's a bit harder to change it with the old sony menus though. There's also focus peaking with sony lenses or with vintage lenses.

Most lenses can fit provided you have the proper adapter

The 5n has 10fps drive and a touch screen, otherwise everything else seems pretty similar. The 5n is also slightly smaller and weighs around 45g less

It is not but you can easily get full frame look with a cheap speed booster. I use them a lot and it's great but at this time I didn't have one.

La calidad es más que suficiente para videos pero no sé si son capaces de dar la misma nitidez de metabones en las fotos. Hay muchos vídeos donde puedes ver comparaciones entre viltrox y metabones y muchas veces son casi lo mismo
