it works for every Canon EF lenses, except EF-S (EF-S is Canon lens for their crop sensor DSLR). because it needs a wide image circle from full frame lens to shrink and match the size of 1.5 crop sensor. from every videos I've found on youtube, it looks works very well on sony nex 7, VG-30, and FS700.

All Sony lenses with an e-mount work with it just fine. Sigma e-mount work well too. But all the e-mount lenses are quiet small and the focus rings are not bad but not made for cinematic focus pulling. (if you want manual focus - all do autofocus!) - I tried a pro-lens made for video (8-10x the price and can be used via an adapter) and focus pulling was a dream!

1080p would've been nice. Very keen to see some high-quality samples from the VG30.

Looks like a great camera for documentary vids. If I was going to use it for video interviews/corporate stuff I would have gone with the 5d. Smart choice on your decision. I want to travel and just make youtube videos for a living of the places I go... Good luck!

Very good video review. I too shoot with Nikon and don't want to lose all the glass I worked up. D800 is on the list but I too am going for video irate for some short films. Good luck and thanks. Thinking of the nx30, canon xf100, and nex-vg30 or nex-vg900. Nx30 has remarkable image stabilization. This one does have the interchangeable lenses And i could get a Nikon to Sony mount.

I have 7D and now looking for VG30 for my 1st camera. have you heard about metabones speed booster? with that thing you can mount canon EF lenses on any sony nex camera and have the same wide as a full frame on crop sensor plus you've got 1 f stop faster on every lens you have.

Hi good overview of the camera, hope you have the possibility to do some more reviews and test shoots of the Sony NEX VG30. One of my main question is; With the lens that follows in the package hos is the image stabilisator? Is it possible to walk and film att the same time without to much of bunping around of the picture? Does the Sony NEX VG30 has Nightshoot (infrared)?

if you redo this someday I have two words for you: lighting and tripod. you did a good job recording yourself with the diffuse light. But the video you took should have been with better lighting. just waiting a few hours until the sun was lower to angle the light would have improved things dramatically. as it is everything is washed out. steady the camera or stop zooming in. As to the camera I was a little surprised I could hear the zoom. that's not good as it seemed louder than acceptable.

what is the 60fps like when used for slow motion? I'm young and inexperienced on cameras so I'm unsure whether the camera would let me film constantly in 60fps or if a limited time is given to film in that setting. I need this to film skateboarding. what would be your opinion?

How is the battery life? It is kind of annoying that you have to charge the batteries with the camera too.

I notice a jitter while panning, specifically beginning at 5:30. Is this in the camera or an artifact of KZfaq or ? I shoot wildlife which requires panning and would not be able to use this camera if this is a fault.

OK i do not know why u can hear the servo(motor) when he zooms in and out, today i was at a shop where i used this cam, and i recorded the footage, i could not hear the motor(servo) sound!! the shop was not noisy, but light music was playing, so maybe if do the zoom in a quiet environment u can hear it.or may be something wrong with the lens u have?,i am getting the vg30 but the servo sound made me not so sure, but after 1 did the test today, i think i will go for the vg 30,

Getting my first Sony NEX VG30 in a couple days. Couldnt help notice poor quality in video.

I'm looking for a camera for my son who is in his late teens and interested in film making. He has won some writing competitions and will be studying creative writing at Uni so he is considering a career in this kind of work. Would this be a good camera for making short films of a high quality or do I need to step up to something broadcast standard. To be honest this is around my budget but could maybe stretch a little further. Any advice would be great.
