Haha no way. I know it's been 8 years but on a whim trying to find more information about this specific model i stumbled upon your video. My model has this same exact issue, down to the motor noise sounding exactly the same. Always thought that was the way it was supposed to sound. Thanks dude!

Just installed the new cap and the motor noise is barely noticeable! Thanks again! @@Thanson199415

Thank you for confirming what the issue is with my wm fx26 it used to chop in and out based on whether i had megabass on or off. Im going to try this and be really careful doing it.

I was using a tape of The Cars to test my Sanyo Sportster Personal cassette player, which is about the same age as this. My one has a buzzing noise that you can only hear from the left channel and the right channel cuts out sometimes and you have to twist the headphone plug to get it to come back on. So far I've replaced it's belt, adjusted the speed and cleaned the head, capstan and pinch roller.

Maybe a solder connection on the headphone jack is loose for the right channel. And if buzzing is heard, it may be capacitors

I have a WM-F8 (Canadian version) from 1984 with the exact same issue. I'm no electronics repair man by any stretch but I might have to attempt this.

I did a fix on one of these recently, the mechanism (or the motor) is quite loud when I'm playing but I think it's because I'm using Chinese belts (the music sounds good). I may also need to lubricate the capstan bearings and clean the pinch rollers and tape head soon.

Hi I have the some model, but it seems difficult to take of the case, I already unscrew the 4 screws but it seems the battery part is kinda stuck and difficult to open.

Simply just the plastic clips holding it, just be careful popping it apart.

I have this Walkman, but all the tapes play at half speed, and it might have this problem I can't tell. Any ideas on the first problem?

Thomas Blue If it's any use 1 year after you asked this question, my WM-F31 played slowly, but after twisting a small potentiometer inside a bit I could adjust the speed of the motor.

N G it would've been so much easier if Sony just included a speed slider
@noahgeorgeson2573
@noahgeorgeson2573 6 жыл бұрын
blackham7 Agreed, but I do think that a speed slider may have messed with the aesthetics of the machine, so Sony probably wouldn't have done that.

if yous speed is wrong you should try adjust potentiometer (small screw inside atached into a little metal box) if it is not that , then check the elasticity of your gum band. then you should clean every gear and lubricate the motor, it should run strong not weak and no noise while running. if the motor is weak you need to clean inside the brushes but this is a delicate job to open de motor clean it inside and be carefull to not broke those little metal touching the rotor, those are the brushes, are like eyelash touching the rotor of the motor, and sometimes bend inside or get rusty.

Transcendental Airwaves I can't even remember hahahahah, I guess I was just poking around with a good capacitor placing it across old ones until the motor noise vanished, then replaced the capacitor that I found :)

With the capacitors, what matters when replacing them. I noticed you used one with the same voltage but a larger capacity, with the larger capacity cause any problems?
@Thanson199415
@Thanson199415 7 жыл бұрын
It would filter better, but I wouldn't go to high on capacity, not that it would cause any problems though lol
@cleitonfelipeandreola4335
@cleitonfelipeandreola4335 6 жыл бұрын
The correct approach would be using the same capacitance, the voltage can be equal or higher.
