@@ralphy69420 Sony, because even though, they have more bass (which not everyone likes) the sound is comparable and if you'd give up a bit of comfortability you won't be disappointed. The ANC is incredibly good and the app is a lot better as well. For me, the tactical buttons on Bose are worse because you hear and feel the pressing. The battery life is a bit better on Sonys as well. Not that I wouldn't recomend Bose qc 35 ii, they are awesome, but Sony pulled ahead with subtle differences.

This is honestly one of the best Sony m3 reviews. You talk about things noone talks about like how the ANC technology is best suited for blocking loud engine noises as oppose to human voices, or how you still need to turn the power on if you want ANC when the headphones are connected through the 3.5 jack. 👍

Yes, the noise cancelling doesn`t work without power, the type of thing only a mac user needs explained.. And although it`s uncommon to mention it in reviews and the inclusion is nice, there are reasons for that, such as basic knowledge about the technology. It`s the reason you can often choose between presets like, airplane, train, bus, office et cetera. You can`t do them all at once because of the physical way noise cancelling works, well maybe you could, but you wouldn`t be able to block all audible frequencies, while playing audible frequencies, if they manage to do that I want to met the people who program the syncronization lol xD Never mind, what am I even saying, people won`t learn about noise cancelling, the leader of the free world doesn`t understand how hairspray works..

I've had these since Feb 2019. They are amazing, they nailed everything...except microphone quality during calls, I constantly have people say that I sound far away during phone calls while using the XM3's. Its so bad that I have stopped using them for phone calls altogether. I understand the mics were improved in the XM4's, however, I can't justify the upgrade. Can't have it all I guess

Thank you so much for including the bit about the app now allowing you to turn off the touch controls. I've been between these and the Bose QC35ii for literally months because while I preferred the Sonys in almost every way, the touch controls were seriously putting me off. I like the buttons on the QCs and I firmly do not like the idea of accidentally brushing up against the headphone and skipping forward, etc. After researching and asking around online, the verdict was that there's no way to disable it without disassembling the headphones. Your video (to my knowledge) is the only review that mentions that newly updated feature and the reason I'll be buying them over the QCs. I know it's a small detail but seriously I can't thank you enough for including it in your review. I don't see a Patreon link but if you open one in the future I'll be sure to chip in.

@@sinanparmar no it doesn't. Still around 600 kbps in real life. It downsamples hi res to stream through Bluetooth and then upsamples it, but there is no way at all a 24b 96khz file streams through Bluetooth. This is a ~ 4000 kbps file, so unfortunately not happening today. Not saying LDAC sounds bad, just saying if you believe you're really getting hi res through it you are fooling yourself
@sinanparmar
@sinanparmar 4 жыл бұрын
@@HeliBenj ok so i did some reading. It seems like with a 990 kbps connection you can actually get losless 48kHz 24 bit file which counts as Hi-Res, but definitely not 96kHz. I was fooled by the fact that my phone says it is transmitting 96kHz 32 bit with ldac in my settings. But it did not say it wasn't compressed, which I thought it would be. Now I wonder what difference that makes. Thanks for pointing out man, I should have thought of this earlier as it is basic maths.
@HeliBenj
@HeliBenj 4 жыл бұрын
@@sinanparmar if you have an android phone, enable developper options, there you can set LDAC codes to fixed bitrates (automatic by default) set it to 990 kbps and try it in a real life sce. You will likely get a lot of cutouts. Truth is the system automatically adjust bitrate depending on connection conditions, and for me 990 is not feasible. So you get really 660 at best or 330. In reality the only way to get even real lossless CD quality (44 kHz 16 bits) is wired. Of course, marketing from codec developers would like you to think otherwise. Now the difference in sound quality between LDAC and real lossless is very little to my ears to be honest, and difference between lossless and his res is also not big. You need somewhat hi end headphones and headphone dac and amp to really appreciate. SONY XM3 OR bose whatever are not resolving enough to get that last 1% of difference. But saying you get hi res through Bluetooth is just wrong. If interested, try a set of really hi-fi grade headphones through even a basic DAC in a shop (i use focal Elegia and fiio Q1) with hi res files. Not very portable, but another level of sound altogether. Careful though, once heard it cannot be unheard, and this is a costy hobby... I've had to sell my Marshall "Monitor " and XM3 because I can no longer listen to them. All depends on your priorities, convenience or sound quality. Not that the XM3 sound inherently bad, just colored, not very resolving and with small soundstage. But they sound decent for their price and of course have the convenience of Bluetooth and ANC

Just copped a pair of these headphones. The ANC is amazing. Sound quality is top notch. Great app , everlasting battery life + super comfortable. The only gripe I have with them is the build quality isn't quite up to par. After a week , my left ear cup randomly creaks when walking / moving or chewing and due to the ANC being soooo good , you hear the clicks + creaks over the music. So you have to turn the volume to cover up those random noises which reverberate through the headband into your ears. I rang sony support and they said it is normal that the head band / ear cup hinges can creak slightly. So , just a word of warning. Great headphones none the less. 9/10.

Good review. I've had mine for a year as well and only thing that's gone wrong is one day after using them in a light rain, the bluetooth and touch pad went out. I re-seated the power ribbon cable inside the right earcup and all is well now. I think a little moisture got in the USB-C connector. I use these EVERY SINGLE DAY from hard workouts to just lounging. Absolute hands down BEST headphones I will ever own. In fact i doubt they will ever die as I have already opened them up and the electronic design is marvelous. I will disagree with you though on the swiping motions being unnatural and hard to do. The touchpad works flawless for me and I can't tell you how much of a joy it's been to just lightly swipe by my ear to control music when on a bike ride, jogging, lawn work, etc. No more fumbling for the music device or risk eventually wearing out physical buttons. The ONLY time the touchpad reacts poorly is if my finger is wet as in soaked and that is totally understandable.

A lovely succinct review. I recently purchased these headphones because I've been living in a flat right on the side of the northern line here in London. The trains run right past the window at the rate of one every minute for twenty hours a day. Although I ve been using wax earplugs to sleep I spent most of my life outside because the flat was unbearable. Upon finally trying these noise cancelling headphones-and providing at least the window I sit by is closed, I found out they make all the difference in the world. Now as luck would have it, I have finally been able to locate another flat and I sign up for it today. I was previously unable to move for all sorts of reasons but oh the irony of only discovering these little beauties in my final month here. Damn!! Anyway they are great headphones and deffinately keepers-they'll be coming with me for their sound quality(still very decent when connected by a wire and switched off by the way) and Still they'll be useful in the less dramatic environment I'm heading to (by a road so there's traffic in the street-they'll quieten that down with ease) and anywhere where that reassuring female voice that tells you "headphones on.... Bluetooth connected...." along with that beep as the ambient sound falls away-is a most welcome tool to have in your armoury in this noisy world. 👌💖

I've seen a lot of reviews where people say how great these are, but would like to share my honest personal experience. I bought these recently on sale, otherwise I would have skipped because of the price, even though these have been around almost 3 years now and we have the new XM4. Current price is somewhere between 200-250 pounds. The pros (a bit impressed to be honest): - noise cancelation - I think this is the best feature, works so great - good audio quality (*only when using without built-in microphone - read comment bellow) - battery life - great packaging and contents (feels premium) The cons: - microphone - bad audio quality when using on calls - not so confortable after 2 hours (do not recomend if gaming) *The biggest complain --> audio drop quallity. For some reason, when making a call or using the built-in microphone, the audio quality drops. Lets say you are listenig to music and someone calls you, the quality drops instant which I hate and it annoys me, just makes me want to take them off and use the phone instead which beats the purpose. I appreciate SONY adding extra features, but its such a shame that are so poor that you just dont want using them. I have the latest firmware installed and tried other methods to improve, but I couldn't find any solution. I'm gonna ask for a replacement, maybe mine is faulty (not so sure), but if the new one has the same issue, I'm just gonna return them for good and look for something else. If someone is experiencing the same issue as I am, let me know. If you're using them paired with a separate microphone and not interested in calls, then I would recommend. If you want all these features to work properly and have a great experience overall, then we might need to look at higher end products.
@bruh-qi7ue
@bruh-qi7ue 2 жыл бұрын
surely during calls you want to listen to the person instead of playing songs right? 😆 If you don't play songs then it probably is just the other person's microphone, but you probably knew that. In my opinion these are so much more comfortable than my previous headphones so I am super duper happy with them

I’ve owned the headphones for about eight months and use them almost everyday during the work week to drown out background office noise where I work. But I also regularly use them to take and make phone calls for work. I haven’t heard a single complaint from anyone. In fact, when I’ve asked people, they’ve told me that I sounded good. I’ve also called my home and office numbers to leave voice messages for myself just to see how I sounded and I can honestly say that I sounded great. Anyway, great video. Just my two cents.

I seriously don't recommend using the equalizer, it ruins the sound quality because it doesn't use high quality bluetooth codecs with the equalizer turned on. If you have it on for some reason tho I really don't get why you would turn the bass down at all and turning the mids up is literally the opposite of what i wanna do with the sound. Also turning the high frequencies up that much is a terrible idea too. I don't know if you have trouble hearing high frequencies because of your age (judging by your profile pic) but your setting literally RUINS the sound for me.

They sound better when you turn EQ, Surround VPT and Sound Position off. Set DSEE HX to Auto, prioritise 'sound quality' and you'll get access to APTX and LDAC codecs, much better than SBC. Use your music player EQ to tweak sound, and ATMOS settings if you've got them. Ps You don't need to repeatedly swipe up or down to make large volume adjustments, just swipe part way and hold your finger on the touch pad without lifting.

Regarding the common issues: I had purchased a pair in early 2019 and it suffered from that cold weather problem and the 'terrible' microphone quality. Those issues I could live with and just adjust to (the ANC for traveling and to reduce the constant hum of the HVAC in my office was worth keeping them). But pretty quickly, I suffered from a different issue with the headphones 'clicking' when the pressure around me changed (e.g., going in/out of tunnels on the subway/metro) or when jostled. It got to the point where I finally submitted a request under the warranty and had the headphones replaced. Funny enough, the new pair (received in mid-2019) not only fixed the 'clicking' issue, but I also haven't experienced the cold weather phenomenon or poor microphone quality that I did in the original pair. This is anecdotal, but I'm much happier with the new pair and I'm wondering if those three issues were related to a manufacturing/assembly problem that has since been addressed.

I watched this prior to buying, this review being one of the reasons to why I made my mind up. However, the head band strap broke after a few months and Sony refuse to accept it as a guarantee issue. The charge above 100€ to fix it. But that would just give me another pair with the weak plastic strap. All of this from ordinary use, a tiny bit of plastic just shot off one day when removing them from my head. When you show the endurance and squeeking of the strap, that kind of pressure is probably at least 4 times the actual pressure I placed on line while simply placing them or removing on my head.. Sad to say, but wish I didn't buy them. The poor quality of the plastic is insane for a premium product. Love everything else with them apart from built in microphone while taking calls.. My friends hate me for the poor quality. Weird that they haven't been able to solve it..

The built-in mic for phone calls is not great, but it works. The voice comes off a bit muffled, but I use them all the time for hands-free calls and never had a single person complain. I’m currently in the market for one of these. I’ve watched/read so many reviews that I’m actually pretty confused. I’ve narrowed my choices between the Sony and the Bose QC35 2 (or perhaps the Bose 700 if I’m willing to pay the 50$ more) at first I was leaning towards the former, but I heard so much complaints from users about the “cold weather” issue that this making me hesitate a great deal. I’m living in Canada, which as you well know have many months of cold weather and I’m not inclined to fork that amount of money on a pair of headphones that I will have to fight with 6 months out of the year. Mainly because of this reason i will probably go with a Bose. Now what I want to do is go to a store and actually try them both before I make my final decision.

Cold weather problem is no longer an issue. I live in Newfoundland, and I've had very little issues lately. Plus they've added the option to disable the touch controls. I'd go with the WH1000xm3's over the QC35's any day. They've been my favourite pair of headphones for well over a year now.

I bought these last Christmas, and I can vouch for just about everything he said being true. The only thing I would slightly disagree with is the headphones making your ears too hot. My ears heat up really quickly, so I would never run with these or wear them if its over 80 degrees outside; however, if you are just using them to game inside an air-conditioned environment, then they are significantly better than any cheap gaming headset that is made with non breathable plastic. If you get too hot with them, I've found that taking them off for about a minute is enough to cool them down. Aside from that, everything that Mark said is spot on! These headphones are worth every penny! Great review!

Really good final verdict, but I would just like to point out that they don't have flat profile, they have +4 db boost on low end, the thing is that most basic consumer headphones have +3db to +5db on low end, so we naturally expect that from headphones and call it "flat", if you actually listen to some "flat" studio headphones, the difference is huge. Just to clear it out for anyone looking at these for some music production or something similar.
