SD 888 and SD 8gen 1 sucks and overheats a lot because they are manufactured by samsung. SD 865 was manufactured by TSMC and for whatever reason they decided to go with samsung for 888 and 8gen 1. That's why 8gen 2 is a massive improvement from the previous generation. Anyways, nice review!

Thanks for this reminder... I love Sony Xperia UI and used them for years from around 2010 to 2017... I switched to Google and keep thinking about going back to Sony but... Carl Zeiss means nothing, dead battery before I get home from work, slow to charge if I want to make it another half day 🤦‍♂️ ... I almost jumped on a deal I found but you saved me loo😅 Thanks 🙏

Still my favorite phone. It’s more reliable than Samsung or the Chinese phones. Never used finger print or Face ID so I’m good.👍

My honest opinion and my friendly advice from a long term xperia user don't buy them for the camera because the software is inconsistent , only manually you can take stunning and great photos and I have took some of the greatest photos ever on my Xperia one and Xperia 1 mark iii the video you need to master around with the videography pro app and even then in 1mk3 it's very very limited you can't switch between linsens you can't change some settings unless you add a new project so they fix this issue in later phones but they didn't on this one and Xperia phones are basically not point and shoot phones that's basically it I have suffered from overheating issues because if you look really well in this disassembly videos there is no proper heating or thermal management at all it's just some graphite stickers and they still use it you know it's dumb because cooper vapor chamber is better ten times better but yeah so like I love Sony phones and the camera has great potentials if you really really put your mind into it and you try to use it but in general I wouldn't recommend them to anyone as a daily driver or even as a phone because they require a lot of learning in order to use them in a way that will make the cons of this phone are tolerable

Battery degrades over time even if you don't use it much. Its a 3 year old phone with one of the worst snapdragon chips, the 888. Also the reception will be bad if the phone wasn't released in your country originally.

The 21:9 aspect ratio sucks. Stock android os had an option to change screen resolution and aspect ratio (don't know how Sony messed up so badly here), a paper bag would win a fight against the fingerprint reader (this will break within the first week and that's a guarantee) other than that it is a banging phone. Would recommend if you don't want to screen share/mirror to your TV

My last Sony phones were 1 Mark 4 (still have it as 3rd device and I am satisfied with that) and many years before that I had the M4 Aqua. The strange things about the camera today is that it does not process the fotos so pleasing like other expensive phones despite its obvious able to take good fotos with its hardware. One thing I really miss are these funny things to do with fotos to make jokes and put things in realtime into the recording, what you could do 10years ago with Sony. Sad that they dumped these funny features. My fingerprint reader works good.

They should have made the screen 4 to 6 percent bigger and add a better selfie camera. As for the back main even Xperia Z3 from 2013 had a 20.7 mp rear camera XZ had 13 mp front. It is overpriced. I have II. The S20 Ultra takes pictures faster, has updates even till now, much sharper pictures and cheaper. Only thing I like for Xperia is the light weight, easy to hold, the video recording HDR is good and sharp and good stabilization. III came in 2021 but S21 Ultra absolutely destroys the Xperia in every aspect.
