Hi everyone! In December 2024, I released a video on the Top 5 Reasons the Sony Xperia PRO-I Camera centric smartphone was still great to buy or keep in 2024. But it also has some chronic issues that I felt should be revealed for a more balanced view on it. In this video, I reveal the top 5 reasons why the Sony Xperia PRO-I may not be a great device to buy in 2024. Join me as I explain what they are and if there are solutions to resolve them!
Most of the footage in this video was recorded with the Sony ZV1, ZVE-10 and Xperia PRO-I. I would have liked to have recorded it all with the Xperia PRO-I but it has a nagging issue which prevents me from doing that. I’m sure some of you know what it is already!

I've had my phone since it came out with vlog kit I happened to get a great student discount something like $700 off. Honestly have not used the phone as much as I hoped I would because the battery drains so fast when its your main phone and also camera you'd have to have a battery bank on you. The cinema pro app is the best feature but doesn't work with the vlogging monitor! As for the using as a connected monitor for a dslr I never used it for that. But I've recorded fantastic concert footage. After having it for years now I still miss the wireless charging and hate when its humid or the phone gets wet it won't charge if it senses moisture in the charge port and you have no alternative to charge it. I fully charged the phone while at a concert and it was pretty much on single digits when leaving the concert after 2-3 hours. Image quality is great and the cinema pro is fantastic but can't use that for vlogigng. I think you'd might as well use it if it wasn't your main phone or get a samsung galaxy ultra. It's great as a portable minimalist camera. All my ports still work.

Thank you for sharing this! I didn't know about the vlog monitor and Cinema Pro.I'm glad I held off on it. Mine has a similar issue to when it's really humid. It's very difficult to charge or transfer files. And the battery drains fast partially because of the Snapdragon processor but also the RX100 sensor and processor. I have the same issue with my ZV1 that uses the same sensor. I feel the PRO-I does best as a compact camera with a large display and can upload pics fast compared to traditional cameras. It still lasts longer compared to my ZV1 and ZVE-10 digital cameras, especially when shooting in hot environments.

I personally only record videos in 1080p. To save memory and i think the 1080p is for me already good enough. all screens i have at home at also 1080p and i noticed that recording at night is best in 1080p 30fps. i have my cinema pro app on 4k 60fps for when i really want to record something nice.

i heard people also use the flightmode when recording longer videos, against the overheating.

Try to clean the headphone jack port with a needle, try to pick out fuzz from clothes. Same. With usbc port. Helped me on my phone (not sony but it's a common problem)

Thank you for your recommendations! I clean my Xperia PRO-I on a weekly basis. I did try to include some closeup shots of both ports in the video to show nothing is inside of them. However the lenses for my cameras aren't great for detailed close-ups so may have been difficult to see. I believe the issue is subpar materials used for those ports. The headphone port appeared to have become worn out over time from frequently using external mics and also while vlogging with them on the move. The constant movement slowly wore them out. For the USB-C port, I have similar issues with my Sony ZVE-10 digital camera and Xperia 1iii. Over time from repeated use, they become worn out. I'm wondering if the issue could also be from these devices getting really hot, the metal from these ports expand and over time remain that way. I've noticed my Xperia PRO-I is more difficult to charge when it's hot, perhaps you saw in the video my micro studio was reaching temps up to 34°C!!!

I got this phone as an upgrade from my pixel 4 and so far its been great. I am learning the whole camera system thing so I cannot take advantage of it just yet. My biggest issue with it so far is that it doesn't receive signal well. My pixel 4 at times will get signal in places where my sony wouldn't.
@thefitlifechannel2021
@thefitlifechannel2021 Ай бұрын
Once you've learned how the camera system works, its easier to move onto Sony's Alpha digital cameras because the quick menu is the same as theirs. Actually, I recommend the Xperia line first for those wanting to move on from a smartphone to a digital camera. And I learned to respect Sony's cameras more on their smartphones because they don't use as much processing like Google and Samsung and still can produce some really great images. You also have more room to work with when editing them in something like Adobe Lightroom or others because of minimal processing. I have noticed recently signal issues with mine as well but I have a feeling its because of the daily hot temps (may not be an issue of the PRO-I itself, but the cell towers and electrical grid being too hot and causing decreased signal strength/power). Are using it in a cool place or in a hotter area?

Спасибо за ваши мысли.. Думаю, придет время вы поменяете телефон на Xperia PRO-2 (жду выхода) или перейдете на Xperia 1 V или скоро выйдет Xperia 1 VI

You're welcome! I am waiting for the Xperia 1VI to see if there are any significant changes to move on from my Xperia PRO-I. I honestly don't believe a second generation will be released soon. Have you heard of the Leica Leitz Phone series? They look like an interesting alternative to something like the Xperia PRO-I.

@@user-ub7gi3oj5x Yup! I think it will be released in Japan at the end of this month. I want Sony to make a PRO-I like that, one camera using the full 1.0 type sensor and a really great front camera. Are you able to import something like the Leica Leitz Phone into your country?

@@thefitlifechannel2021 stil an improvement for sony. Its good to see. Lets see with the 5 series brings. I hope they bring back a dedicated maybe fixed 80mm zoom lens on the 5 series. Than i might buy that one later. The 1 is i guess a great phone but too expensive for me. I also like the small form factor of the 5 but i dont like the small vieuwfinder in the photo pro app with this small screen again 🥲🤣

@@namelesssnitchy Definitely a big improvement especially with the security updates. I was a bit shocked by the VI price, I was expecting it to be a bit lower with the lower resolution display. I'm holding off on it until I see long term reviews for it. When is the 5 series supposed to be unveiled? If they bring back the telephoto lens, do you feel it's gonna increase the price?

I appreciate your feedback! The whole point of this video was to show both positive and negative aspects of the Sony Xperia PRO-I from daily use for the past 20 months. Most reviews are only 1-4 weeks in length and they may not experience what I did. It doesn't reflect every user/owner's experience of the Xperia PRO-I, its my own. I waited almost two years so I can give my viewers the most honest, long term review on the positive and negative traits of the Xperia PRO-I. That's my duty as a reviewer, not to make videos for the purpose of getting the most views and likes. I know it may upset some viewers like yourself but hopefully you can understand why I do this. Most of the issues I brought up in this video, numerous other reviewers and users have pointed out as well. The subpar front camera, overheating and limited OS/security updates compared to its competitors, and of course the fingerprint sensor. Overheating on an Sony smartphone has been around for a very long time. When Sony decided to use a thin and narrow body and cram in hot processors, powerful cameras and inadequate cooling solutions, its gonna happen! Perhaps the one issue many will dispute are the ports but that could be due to the hot and humid environment I live in. Also, please clarify how my lifestyle destroys the phone with legitimate examples? It still works and I have found solutions to my issues. If anything, this video shows the Xperia PRO-I, despite the issues I've encountered still performs as it was intended for, a content creator's device. They're not meant to be handled as if in a thin glass case. I have recorded thousands of vid clips and pics with the Xperia PRO-I for my YTB videos and personal use in excellent & substandard conditions. The Xperia PRO-I can take a lot of heavy usage and keep on going even after 20 months of daily use. Most other devices would have bit the dust, like my Samsung Note 20 Ultra (my first content creator device) and its unusable display. No smartphone, camera, gadget etc. is perfect. They all have their issues, we find ways to work around them, and use their best traits optimally. If you watched the end of this video, I did say the Xperia PRO-I still has many positive traits and is best used as a camera centric device (which even Sony promoted). It excels giving the user the best photography/videography experience even in 2024 against "camera smartphones" like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.
