The Xperia 5 IV might have released last year but it, along with it's bigger brother the Xperia 1 IV had some issues at launch in regards to thermals. Have these been fixed? I get into that and look at Sony's effort in 2023 after just over a week of use.
I'm liking this phone a lot.

Yeah for people that aren't sure how to manage such things this year's phones should be much much better. I really wish I hadn't swapped out the 1 IV...maybe I'll pick it up again before the mk V releases!

Dam you think 20-25C° is hot? It's dam cold for me If I had to choose a phone I'll live with forever I'd honestly go with something that is targeted for the mass like the S23 Ultra or the Pixel 7 Pro But the Xperia is so unique I would definitely try one if I had the chance to, who knows I might like it a lot just like you 😎👍

Haha it's not really hot for us but still fairly warm. High humidity. We hit 40c during the summer which I think was close to record temperatures. We're not built for it! 😅 And I totally get why you'd go for something like that. I definitely wouldn't recommend Xperia to everyone. Cheers Mal.

i think the computational power of sony xperia (i am a sony xperia 5ii user) is not the biggest problem when i comes to the basic camera app. it is just so not user friendly. in 1 word: cumbersome. They should make an office in their company that just focusses on making it more user friendly.
@GroundedTech

Yeah I get what you mean. I'm quite happy with Xperia as a content creation tool. I think they're intending for them to be used by people who know what they're doing for the most part. Cheers for the comment Nameless.

@@GroundedTech agreed but still. In normal camera app in options you can put burst mode on. And then whole using the physical shutter button it always takes a double photo and makes a new map on the phone for it. This is annoying af. Just give the burst mode a 1 second delay on the physical shutter button so you can easely make single shots and hold it longer to switch it to burst shot. Such a simple implication will make it soooo much better. I dont get sony engineers. Even while i love sony so much
@GroundedTech

Yeah I get what you mean. I don't use burst mode much so it's probably something I hadn't noticed.

I got the 5iv in December and have issues with thermal throttle and some instability. The performance is good, but if you multitasking alot the performance go down quickly. It get very laggy and the framerate of the UI drops. The 4K recording is not a problem for me. The real problem is the day to day use. I just cant stand it anymore. Love the phone, but the thermal management and memory management is very poor. Just got the iPhone 14 pro today, and will sell my 5 iv.
@GroundedTech
@GroundedTech Жыл бұрын
RAM management is something I'm noticing more and more. Not an issue I had on the 1 IV. I get what you're saying though. I think it's the Android 13 update that made it this way. Hope the 14 Pro works out well. I've heard of plenty of issues with that too.
@thomasasannes

@@GroundedTech yes, I cant remember any memory management issues pre update. I found a work around by enabling development mode and force buffering of inactive applications. But it kills the battery performance.

A interesting thing happened just now. I went into the display settings and there is a message on the high framerate setting stating that 120hz is not available due to high temperature. That's just from downloading 5 updates from app marked. Never seen that before. But still... It's so hard going away from the So ny. I really love the vanilla android and simplicity. Also love the display and form factor.
@GroundedTech

It's frustrating because I never had that issue on the 1 IV. I've not had any real issues with overheating for the most part but it is winter so that will change. I'll keep updating on my experience. This year's Xperia's won't have this overheating issue so worth keeping an eye out if you don't get on with the iPhone.

Their sales are very small compared to many but instead of trying to claw back what they lost and carry on with the same strategy they've decided to focus on their own niche instead. Sales are stable. Such a great production tool.

im in all year summer area in Asia.. max temperature seem capped at 41~42 celcius then phone performance will throttle.. however, you will not face this heat issue at all for daily usage.. u will notice it significantly when play high demand gaming like Genshin Impact.. COD will not notice slow performance. For screen protector try to search a brand name gor
@GroundedTech
@GroundedTech Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a big problem for you. It'll get worse for me as summer approaches but I'll be swapping this out soon enough anyway. Unfortunately there's not really any good brands for screen protectors and I don't want another layer in the way as it isn't the most responsive screen. Definitely doesn't feel anywhere near as good as the last two years Xperia's.

Under hot sun cannot keep bursting photo shot.. however if point and shoot and move to next spot, again and again I think it's fine. No much concern to me. But definitely can't use it as main device for serious work. It still cannot replace true camera.. I would say the output is better than my a6400. LoL. Especially high speed burst with HDR. Damn easy to get a nice shot from fast action such as jump up shot.
@GroundedTech
@GroundedTech Жыл бұрын
Yeah it's really nice. I'm using it for KZfaq atm and it can do well enough for one video then give it a break before recording another. Still wanting a proper camera but let's see what the new Xperia's this year bring. A lot of those thermal issues should be sorted too.
@iamchampchannel
@iamchampchannel Жыл бұрын
@@GroundedTech in fact I don't really carry a6400 always unless you need a serious photoshoot with expensive optical prime lens. Else, smartphone is able to handle in most scenarios. My a6400 can't do 4k120fps, burst 11fps only while x1m4 20fps.. some computational photography element in smartphone and Xperia is showing balance output in term of color saturation, highlights and shadow. It won't show over bright up result. Other phones are really good in computational photography but somehow I felt too "fake" in certain scenarios. So I don't those for now. Yes. I'll not change mark 5 even big improvement in SoC. I shall wait for mark 6 in future.
@GroundedTech
@GroundedTech Жыл бұрын
Yeah I used Pixel's for years but I often find them too artificial these days. I only want a camera for KZfaq and to have it as a permanent fixture. I'll have Xperia as well. Tbh the current Xperia's are pretty good for video recording as long as seamless zoom is turned off.

For no gaming use, just web browsing, reddit Netflix and some photography, would you recommend it? Or better the 5 III?
@GroundedTech

I'd definitely recommend it, as long as you're happy with a phone that you need to treat more like a regular camera for photography. Although I do think it's a little easier with many of the features and modes. The 5 III will give you a better telephoto though.

Heating issues should be gone with the next phones. Not that I struggle with it much. Easy to mitigate. Reception could be down to the Samsung fabrication. But for me it has been solid.
