The only thing that needed improvement on the zv1 was the lense.....and they made it worse. Its almost like sony and canon are in a race to the bottom.....sigh

Liked and subscribed. I need a compact camera for vlogging on motorcycle trips. One that still takes decent photos as well! Do you have a suggestion for me? There are so many choices....I'm thinking the Cyber Shot RX 100 VII, ZV-1, or the Canon GX 7? What do you think?

It sounds like Sony was on the Nvidia conference call where Nvidia revealed that the 4060TI was within single digit percentage points of performance of the previous generation's 3060TI for $400 and decided to run with that "middle finger to our customers" strategy.

The New ZV-1 mark II reminds me of the Canon M50 mark II upgrade not much change, more for marketing refresh than a camera refresh. Maybe it indicates that they are not really supporting this platform anymore. Tony Northrup compared this new camera to an iPHone 14 Pro. The flipply screen is so dark, you can barely see it in bright daylight. In the comments section, allot of people thought the iPhone 14 Pro video looked better. iPhone 14 Pro is allot easier to use for most people. I am curious how these lower end cameras, such as the Canon R100, R50 and ZV-1 Mark II will sell, due to the competition from the smart phones.

I am looking at getting a ZV-1 at the moment and your video just helped me decide between the original and the Mk 2. It is mainly the f-stop difference that just doesn't work for me with the new one and I will be using the wireless Go mics, so the original ZV-1 it is for me. Thank you for your review.

They also took away the in-lens stabilization. I guess they figured with the shorter focal length it wasn't necessary. Trying to decide between the ZV1 or ZV1F. Mark 2 is out.

Smartphones will eventually crush this segment to - convenience, ai, larger screens, instant connect to social media and great stabilization - hence why I just went to a reduced price Sony A7C for the serious stuff

Now with the DJI Pocket 3 one has to reconsider if buying the zv-1 series, but here are some reasons why IMO: pictures, zoom, aperture, hot shoot, battery change. I still use my ZV-1.

Fully agree with you. I too have ZV1 and won't "upgrade".

The Sony EV 1 is still a $2000.00 dollar camera. Is it worth that kind of money? For a hobbyist the answer is no. You are way better off purchasing a Canon 70D used for almost nothing. And, there are thousands of second hand lenses that you can add for pennies on the dollar. If you want 4K I would go with the 80D or the 90D. However, even shooting with 1080, there are programs out there that will upgrade your video to 4K and it looks fantastic. The bottom line is that there are no good reason to spend the extra money on a Sony EV 1 or 2 when you can buy a full camera outfit for a fraction of the price. Believe me when I say that you can get fantastic photos with the 70D although its an older camera.

Here in Canada the ZV 1 II is $CDN1200. Which is not entry level, and it doesn't compete with high priced cameras that start in 1999. So, it's not clear how the price to value ratio holds in Canadian dollars.

It is a fail, 3 years, $150 more, worse aperture, and just got a bit wider lens and some marginal feature like cinema mode.

I'm of the opinion that this is a worse camera than the original for more money. The worst thing about the original ZV-1 was the mounting point. The fact that you couldn't access the battery and memory card when mounted was extremely poor engineering. Especially when the 24mm wasn't wide enough a "vlogging" camera. The usb being micro opposed to C wasn't a real deal breaker, more of an annoyance. Other than software there aren't really anyother improvements. Since it's the same processor, all of it could and should be added to the original via firmware update. We lose the optical stabilization and the aperture gets worse. So the 18mm isn't a win even if you are a walk around vloger. When you compare the M1 to the M2, with all stabilization turned on, that image isn't much wider at all. You still have to stabilize the camera to get the wider shot. This is not an improvement. You put the 24mm on a tripod, a gimbal, or a couple inches out on a selfie stick and it's plenty wide enough. The added bonus of the 24mm on a selfie stick, you don't have to use the digital stabilization with the added crop. Also on the original you get 70mm optical zoom as opposed to 50mm on the M2. Much more versatile in my opinion. You also get the super slow motion on the original. At 240mm it's a really nice bonus. Slower than that the image gets worse but is kinda usable if the subject is well lit. None the less we've lost more versatility. I really can't recommend the M2 over the M1 as it costs more for overall less camera.

All the hate for this camera. I've had the ZV1 pretty much since launch. Can't wait to get the mark ii.

One could only hope they got dome feedback, from the many vloggers who have complained about focus and wide frame and sudio. And they really dropped the ball by not calling it the "wide" instead of the "two". And maybe a variety pack of dead mice, in colors not just gray. We KNOW the color the the year is crucial!

That situation of having to change the SIO does not work for me. Most of the street photography and video I do is shot using the same ISO all the time. being forced to change the ISO and the effects of that make this a no go for me.

That will be resounding NO...Sony has at least 30 models of cameras starting the A mounts and they are getting me dizzy..

I can't believe it doesn't have 4K 60p yet. Chinese knock-offs for $99 can do 4K 60p!

Sony make s me dizzy.....A series,like 6 cameras..Then they changed to E mount..Then they have the 5000...6000...6300...6400...6600..A 72..a73..a7iv..a7v..a1...and I did mention like 10-15 other cameras.. JC, you forgot dinosaur tracking..That screen will not help me because I can barely hit on key on a keyboard.

Sony getting like Canon especially with the A1 bringing out all the great features in cheaper cameras like the FX3 while screwing everyone spending 6.5k plus and of course battery grip. No firmware update better off getting older cameras or A7RV A7RIV. Rumor that they want to charge for firmware update for The A1 ridiculous. Greedy corporations getting worse.

I think the shit lens "upgrade" alone kills the ZV1 MK2. This reminds me of Canon's M50 MK2. (Yea vertical video!) Such lack of respect for the customer, but only because the fools keep paying for the "lastest and greatest". Grumble grumble fuss fuss...picks up his old Cisco flip and admits out loud that stabilized 720p is all that you need 🔥
