Make sure to lock your camera down so its not able to move or swivel at all on the tripod head if some wind comes through.
1. Make sure your in photography mode
2. 1st turn off stabilization so you can get the widest shot possible.
3. Turn manual exposure on
4. On tab 1 page 1 turn the file format to jpeg/raw. This way if you get a good nightlapse you can really edit that raw photo to customize the way you want your image to look.
5. The on Tab 1 Page 2 turn off Long exposure NR. This feature takes two pictures and makes you wait twice as long for the photo to be taken. I haven’t found their to be a difference between having it on and off when it comes to my nightlapse. It does some sort of process where it reduces the noice for long exposure shots.
6. On Tab 1 page 3 go to drive mode and set your self timer to two seconds. This way the shake from your hand pressing the record button won’t mess with the long exposure shot. I have the drive mode setup in my function menu for quick access,
7. On tab 1 page 10 make sure MF assist is turned to on.
8. Some people like to change their white balance to incandescent but I left mine on AWB and it worked for
me. If you do it and you notice weird coloring go for incandescent in the zv-e10.
9. If your using a zoom lens, zoom out as wide as possible, This is a Wide angle prime so I don’t have to worry about it.
10.Set it to manual focus make sure focus peaking is on and then turn your focus ring until the stars turn red.
11. I turned my ISO to anywhere between 500 and 1000 I noitced if I went anymore than that then the picture starts to have quite a bit of noise
12. Bring your Aperture as wide as it can go or as low as itc an go.
13. Turn shutter speed down between 5 and 20".
15. Now take a shot and see how it comes out. When your picture is displayed on your display you can use the zoom rack to zoom in to the stars and see how they look. Don't worry if it doesn’t look super sharp. This is trial and error and once you feel like you have a good looking frame we are going to turn on interval shooting.
16. Go to tab 1 page 3 and turn on interval shooting. I set mine to 15 seconds and 1930 images.
17.Youcanplaywiththesenumbersuntilyoufeellikeyourhappywithhowyourtimelapspecameoutbutthis worked for me and I also tried a couple different variations. They all looked the same to me but I wouldn’t go to crazy with this because you could end up with star streaks if your shutter is to high.
18. Now press the shutter button and make sure you hear the camera continuing to take pictures.
Now if your happy with how it turned out then you can go into Lightroom and edit your photos.
There are a ton ov videos out there on that and I don’t want to make this vid to long because your to excited to just go out there and get some awesome Timelapses.

About tripods and wind: To increase tripod stability you can tie a bag of stones to the bottom of the center column. You can buy a special bag for this, but all you need is a fairly strong bag and some cloth tape. About 1 lb. of stones can help a lot. You can experiment for yourself.

The preview is noisy because the camera bumps up the ISO instead of the exposure time for it. If it used the full exposure time for the preview it would become extremely slow (think 8s per frame for 8s exposure time, although realistically it would be more like 8.5s)

@@thefilmalliance Coming from Canon ef-m I'm very happy with the transition. I have switched to Sony because the E-mount offers the best APS-C lenses I want to continue to progress on my journey with photography and now taking more videos. I particularly wanted the 70-350, which I have been very very impressed by so far: sharpness, speed of the AF, compactness of the lens for such a wide focal range, excellent OSS. This is a keeper of a lens. I have also started with the 18-105 for my mid-range needs, which is excellent, and very convenient for taking videos. Much sharper than the Canon ef-m 18-150, despite some of the average reviews I have watched. Although the long and variable minimum focusing distance annoys me quite a bit, when I want to take photos amongst friends (e.g in restaurants or other situations where backing up is inconvenient). I'm looking to get either the Sigma 18-50 or the Tamron 17-70 f2.8 next. After that the very nice 11 f1.8 for these gorgeous astrophotography shots (I'm using the sigma 16 on my Canon for now). I think I will be very happy with this lineup of 3 lenses for the way I shoot and what I shoot. Regarding the ZV-e10 itself: I really like the portability of the camera. Although I do have large hands so I got the SmallRig wooden handle L bracket: this makes holding the camera so much more comfortable, especially with a long lens like the 70-350. The ZV-e10 is an amazing entry level camera. Easy to use for absolute beginners, but un-compromised in terms of features for more advanced users. I chose the ZV instead of the A6400 because it was £300 cheaper in the UK when I got it; and I think the vari-angle screen + USB-C i/o + mic input for audio + digital stabilisation (despite the 40% crop) outweigh my missing the EVF and some buttons. It's a great entry point into the system. And now that I have my road map for my lens lineup, I'll definitely consider getting a 2nd Sony body later on. High on my list for an upgrade will be an EVF, improved ergonomics (I really wish Sony would just add a front dial to ALL their aps-c bodies...) and weather sealing ! It rains a lot in the UK lol, and photography when it rains is actually very fun and produces very interesting shots. Looking forward to your next youtube videos ! Cheers

@@thefilmalliance I just bought the Sony ZV-E10 with a base lens of 16-50. I also bought a ND filter to help out. My main focus on my channel will be sunset videos. I live in Tucson, AZ and we have killer sunsets here so tons of good content to film. Wondering if I should invest in another lens. Do you think I would be better with a wide angle lens or maybe a telephoto or I guess it just depends. Or is my base lens going to work out just fine for now. For now this is a hobby but hoping to make this a lifestyle change in careers.

This looks great brother. Came here looking for extra context around timelapses in general, and had a question about the good ol' ZV-1. Do you know if there's an option to take the shutter speed past 1/4 on the ZV-1's interval shooting mode? It's capable of going up to 30" normally, but seems to kick back to 1/4 for whatever reason in interval shooting on my end.

@@thefilmalliance All good my friend. Researched more and found a solution via a 3 year old Michael Young Kim timelapse tutorial. Electronic shutter limits to 1/4, mechanical shutter allows you to set the shutter to its max capabilities. Just did my first long exposure shooting last night + some extremely blurry street timelapses from my balcony and I'm very excited. Also thank god I decided to get an external ND filter for the ZV-1, this has changed the game.
@MTBs

Interesting! I find that there is a flicker when doing timelapses during daytime on the ZV-1. Apparently this is because each shot isn't exactly the same. The shutter opens a fraction differently each time. Apparently gopros don't have these problem, so that's what i'm using now. Your videos turned out great, though!

Not quite sure you caught three shooting stars in that frame, rather more look like airplanes.

ISO 500? This camera has one of the best low light sensors available. This camera's 2nd level dual native ISO kicks in at ISO 12,800 which with dark skies should give amazing results with an F1.4 lens. It even brings up the possibility of exposing to the right to reduce noise without losing details which is something hard to do with astrophotography because most cameras are not capable of properly exposing night skies without star trails.

@@thefilmalliance Actually I am thinking of the ZV-E1 which has the same sensor as the A7SIII. My bad, I missed the "0" on the end of the model for this video which KZfaq showed me when I was looking for videos of the ZV-E1.
