And then I actually went through the effort to read it out of respect for their intentions, and the book was so good. So I think books are not useless as gifts even if they are not a reader.

nah see you might not know but margins in book selling are way lower then other businesses. Their are copies of almost every book you want for way cheaper then original price range which is way, there are no famous one stop book store has ever been that successive or known to public.

As someone whose father is a publisher and have seen the business and the market up close, no one i repeat no one prefers ebooks over physical books. The people who love to read they prefer ebooks only when they're not available in the market otherwise anyone whose a avid reader goes for physical book. I belong to a very small state and a 7 day bookfair in the capital sells about 2-3 crores worth of books.

The only reason I have ever read eBooks is when the available edition in India costs about 2-3 times than what they usually do. There's absolutely no reason why someone will passionately prefer something as soulless as eBooks

So the sharks are dismissing a company that specializes in surveying data across all market sectors because their immediate 'friends circle' don't read books? (sigh) I think this is a wonderful business! The readers market is huge, and this business can easily pivot market changes by having a e-book offering as well. Loved the branding!

Wonderful business but horrible service. Check the amount of complains they have on them. I had a nightmare dealing with them. Took more then a year to get a box. Guess how does 1 year subscription works then

I am a person who spends most of the time on screen, the only thing that I personally hate to do on screen is reading books, because I desperately want to give my eyes some screen off time and I personally feel reading physical books has a different level of feeling it's an emotion. But one thing is for sure, that original print has a different feeling but copies also do the thing for us

No matter how much the ebook business grows in India, (authentic) physical books and special edition books will always be in demand. Plus the original hardcovers are a difficult find these days.

I agree with only one point from the sharks, that in India, subscription model doesnt work much. I completely disagrre that this market is declining, personally i bought 5k+ Rupees books in last 6 months( for own and gifting). So this is a great market. This team needs to work more on Promotion and Individual Box marketing.

Forget everything, how are they going to compete with the absolute giant of this industry - Amazon ! There's hardly any book or any category one can't find there. Not to forget, in any medium - be it ebook, paperback or hardbound. They rarely have pirated books, prices are least most of the time.

i wouldnt agree books is a declining market. yes 10-14 years ago in india, the country driven by millenials was more focused on earning money and family. but the genz of today are more appreciative of art and literature. they have hundreds of choices and they want try all of them. ive been on those pinterest themed picnics where the girls in the group get flowers and pretty looking books(colleen hover types) to food and all. as india's literacy rate increases the art and literature market is going to expand like hell

Books have really changed my life. It's beautiful to see that there are passion projects that are turned into beautiful business. There might not be an element of heavy scalability in them but they definitely have to exist. These are the enterprises that fuse passion, love, and creativity into society. I loved this pitch and the founder is really inspirational ! Her story is just beautiful !!

I have used ipads, android tablets, e readers to read books including textbooks & even newspapers. Nothing gives me more focus & interest than a physical paper. I wouldn’t spend too much on physical books but I would love to buy them as impulse purchases in Airports or receive them as gifts. If they could optimize the pricing and market cost effectively, they can very well be successful.

Physical books have very much value i am in 10th class aur mere class mein har dusra bacha ek mahine mein min se bhi min 3 books padhta hai vo bhi apne books aur agar school ki library ki baat karoon to har bacha ek mahine mein at least 5 novels to padh hi leta hai ye bohot hi growin market hai if we talk about books aaj to teachers bhi vocabulary badhane ke liye novels padhne bolte hai

I am a book lover and I always prefer to read hard copy, I don't like much to listen audio book or online reading . We attract by seeing packaging, book cover , merchendise etc.. but mostly, we can't afford this to buy.... but the packaging is awesome... Even my sister who never touched a book be it a textbook or a novel, has recently developed a liking for certain novels. I think they have started a very good business and the book box idea is also really interesting and makes me want to buy it. But the problem as i see it is that they should probably lower their prices atleast a bit since the reading culture is growing in teeagers, and most aren't in a position to buy them at this price point.

namita even published her book. if its dying go for just e book. and if ts a good cause, some sort of investment should be given to bring back the culture back.

Its not at all a dying culture as well as its growing market.....There is a specific market which are keen of novels....The best way to make this business big arts college of literature.

Not many people like me like to read digital books like kindle because reading on tab or devices is uneasy that screen goes off automatically and also to minimize and maximize reading page is uneasy and real books are very easy to read than online digital.

Agreed. But ebooks are on the rise and moreover ebooks are also more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Hard copy books ars love and forever it'll be. Ebook, audio book these are okay. But the aesthetics and originality of a book. 😭💞
