Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns - Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.

I just watched about 20 minutes of this on cable and I laughed and laughed and laughed! If they are gonna deviate from the original script so much they really should give it a different title. I have read enough history books to know that there were no white outlaws of the 19th century that would allow a black man to lead them (and I am not white.) That is BS #1. Now, for the Academy Award for Most Pretentious Politically Correct Casting...ok, a chick, an Oriental, a Black, an Injun and a couple of token white guys. Gimme oxygen please, Hollywood!

Schindlers fist go watch the dollars trilogy with Clint Eastwood a lot of elements in red dead are borrowed from movies such as the good the bad and the ugly.

I didn't have high expectations about this movie. It seems that westerns these days aren't very good for the most part compared to the classics from the 60's and 70's...especially when it's a remake like this one. I am *so glad* gave this a shot. It is hands down one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. As a huge fan of westerns overall, I would honestly say this one ranks up there with some of the best....and dare I say, better than the original! Well done!!!

It's coming out at a time where there won;t be any real competition. You either see the Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt western or you see Tim Burton's Xmen.

The "original" was Seven Samurai, made in 1954. The 1960 production was a very close adaptation.

The most legendary of all the magnificent 7 movies is this one! With Denzel Washington the Greatest Remakes oF all time!!!!! Denzel greatest Role ever!!!!! This movie was great. Not having seen the original I didn't know what to expect. All I knew was that there was a larger than life bad guy and 7 dudes that stepped up to take him on. It was action packed, gritty, comedic, and in some cases suspenseful. Granted, in some situations there was predictability, but that didn't take away from the plot line at all. Very entertaining movie. Great cast. Funny dialogue amongst the 7 cowboys. Fitting ending. Would recommend to any action film fans.

A good solid Western. Check out the 1960's version with Yul Brenner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson. Denzel Washington was so great in this, you can tell when all the actors are having a great time. I also like how Washington and Hawke were reunited again since Training Day. If you want to dig deeper to the original source material watch Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa.

One black person in a movie equates to marketing to black people? because as far as i see it this movie could have been entirely white people with the same music. i hope you realize that when it comes to rap and hip hop theirs millions more white people listening to it than black people. I just watched this magnificent movie about these seven badass heroes. A classic western story but what I liked the most was the story about the traumatic syndromes all of them in one way or another were suffering from. Its not easy being a gunfighter, a healthy part of you´ll die if you kill another person - the nightmares will hunt you very night. The only way to keep on going is not to lay down, you´ll have to keep on fighting for something - otherwise you´ll loose focus. Even if you are magnificent - its hard to bee a hero - its no picknick to be badass...

I got the chance to play the string bass part with the first professional orchestra to perform it after Elmer Bernstein finally let out the rights to it. It was a fun song to play and it was a great experience for a side-by-side with an orchestra.

A great story line, unique character persona's, excellent cinematography with impressive sound so that you can feel the bullets. It's like the westerns I grew up with only in colour and sound quality that all good westerns deserve. In my humble opinion, this ranks way up there with Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. My 12yo son loved it and is now able to understand why I loved Westerns as a kid. I don't care that there is an original version and yes I remember it and love it. I do not compare to be fair, We just enjoyed it.

I watched the movie with my boyfriend and we both really enjoyed it. I liked the humor, the action and the characters, plus it had a good ending and it was nice seeing Chris Pratt again. Haven't enjoyed a movie since the last star wars. I will watch it again, and of course check out old version as well.

Something about modern cinema's light and color is so ugly to me -- no matter the composition, resolution and budget It only ever looks synthetic and lifeless. I miss natural light on celluloid.

completely agree. also the multicultural cast in a western just looks so fake. i also don't feel that anyone is in danger. oh well, i get to save my money and that's a good thing. maybe they're actually doing us a favor by making films we shouldn't feel compelled to watch

Often when there is a remake and you are a fan of the original, one cringes at how bad the movie might be. In this case, however, the movie matches and even surpasses the original and keeps you glued to your seat until the very end. the score is so fantastic that when the credits roll you still can't leave your seat. Truly MAGNIFICENT : )

Okay, I'm old school. Never saw "Seven Samarai," but I've seen the early 60's version of "The Magnificent Seven," many times, and it's one of my favorite movies ever. I don't know how any cast could compete with Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Eli Wallach, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn, Horst Buchholz and Charles Bronson, but maybe I'll keep an open mind and go see it. Plus, the soundtrack in the original is fantastic as well.

I didn't know about denzel being in it until yesterday. When I did I knew that I was going to enjoy it. When I saw he was the lead character it made it even better. I'd love to see him in a second one

I don't much care for Denzel is this... somehow he just doesn't seem to put a lot into his role. He doesn't fit. Technically Chris Pratt really doesn't either.. too much of his typical personality comes through. Good movie but nothing like the original.. then again.. that's when Western movies were AWESOME and very popular. SO many great names.. Yul Brenner was fantastic. I think Denzel is suppose to be sort of Yul's part ..doesn't fit.

Still love the 1960 version, plus the original Seven Samurai. However, this is one of the very few western remakes that was very good. I was impressed and enjoyed watching this in theaters. Well done!

Even after watching all three multiple times. I’m drawn to this one for whatever reason. I’m guessing mostly it’s because of Denzel’s screen presence.
