Soo Line GP38-2 switching and roaring - EMD 16-645 roots blown

Soo Line power is still around, and putting on a show in the Twin Cities area well into 2020. In this video we'll see Soo 4412, a GP38-2 built in 1978, on the scrap job and getting a workout in run 8. The roots blown 645 sounds great as the classic EMD leans into a heavy cut of cars as it switches them out, and eventually shoves them back. This is on former Milwaukee Road tracks, just outside of Saint Paul Yard. While many former Soo Line GP38-2s are still on Canadian Pacific's roster, only a handful still wear Soo colors. Shoot the Soo Line units while you can - their time is definitely limited!

My parents live by the Bethel campus, about a block away from the raised tracks, so we got to watch the Soo Line pulling all sorts of freight - the view was much better in the winter when leaves were down. Despite the distance, the house vibrated a little bit as the occasional late night fast trains came through.

This is the third time we’ve nearly met again. I had seen 4412 working this job but it was pulling a much shorter train at the time

Would love to see a new paint job on the old SOO Line engines. Maybe a heritage unit? Grand Trunk as well.

Man EMD don’t smoke as much as GE and Alco does! And they switched it to used EMD 1010j?!!! What were they thinking!
