It’s funny that you point out how Barcelona beat Hayes, I think the more interesting thing is that Hayes is the only person this year that figured out a way to beat Barcelona, because no one said Chelsea is the more talented side, that would have to go to the Catalonians. Her beating them in Barcelona is much more persuasive for me than Barça meeting expectations at Stamford Bridge.

Similarly, the Spanish national team is better than the USWNT. I don’t even think it’s close. So if these two teams met in a World Cup knockout match, I would not back Hayes to get this team through.

@@saturdaysequalsyouth The "weakness" with the USWNT is that it's on a generational renovation, the problem is it should have started around 2020/21 but unfortunately Vlatko was the coach, and while he can be quite good at club level he was a disaster for the USWNT, and delayed that renovation so while the USWNT has great young players many doesn't have the experience in international competition they should have at this point.

I think the front 6 should include Sophia, Rodman, Swanson, Shaw... 4 athletes with the ability to beat players one on one, and they need to play together to develop chemistry to beat the really good defenses. After that Horan, Rose, Macario, competing for midfield spots, and players like Morgan , Hatch, on the bubble.

Casey Krueger deserves and has earned the right to play on the USWNT, imo. Hopefully Emma will see this. Ditto that the Olympic roster should remain expanded for player health and safety.

Casey Krueger should be on the roster, full stop. I think Macario is in the same boat as Rose, except that Rose has opportunity to build minutes. I wonder if it make sense to bring Cat. And please, leave Sonnet home. Luv her but we have other options!!

Cat is the most talented player in the pool. She just played 90 plus minutes with three games to go. Of course she’s on the roster. Her world class skills are unmatched on this team.

Sophia Smith is the best player in the NWSL and the best player on the USWNT. FULL STOP. No serious National Team coach would consider not starting Smith, a would-be 2-time golden boot winner. I think Hayes will consider leaving both a Lavelle and a Sonnett off the roster if she can cap tie Lily Yohannes and get her to commit to the US.

She’s certainly their best weapon and can be the biggest game changer, ex the 2nd half of the SheBelieves Cup. What sets her a part from the rest of the forward line is her ability to create a shot in little space. Why is that important? Because later in rounds defense increases and pressure and you’ll have to be able to be productive and perform with multiple defenders around you. That ability is not shared with Swanson, Shaw or Rodman. It’s very unique to her. Also, correction to this woman speaking ( don’t know her name) Sophia was on the right wing on her 2nd goal. Sinclair was more central. Soph scored both goals on the wing and got an assist the week before from the left wing. She’s improving even more which is scary good for USWNT

Lavelle if healthy and fit is a fantastic player, the problem is keeping her healthy and fit. Sonnet as a defender was a good CB but prone to some brain farts that in a few seconds could have ruined a fantastic match she could have played, fortunately moving her to a DMF position aleviated that, so is an improvement, but while good is not the best for the position, dependable no doubt, the best no way.

I can understand if Alex Morgan is getting call ups due to her experience and leadership, what was no way to understand for the last WWC how Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Kelly O'Hara, etc got their call ups based on their leadership and experience, I can understand for one of them, not for that many players and leaving outside many who could have really contributed. What I can't understand is Alex Morgan starting as a striker ahead of Sophia Smith.

@@david_2097 Again I understand why Alex Morgan gets call ups, I think she can still be quite good for the USWNT, not as a regular starter but as a sort of supersub, and more I even think that while she may have lost a bit of her speed that was her great advantage years ago, she is a more experienced, more mature and so more versatile player, but again, shouldn't be the regular starter as a striker.

If Sophia Smith isn’t on the Olympic roster, Hayes needs to be fired. No Rodman. She doesn’t score goals, she misses penalties and many of her passes are turnovers. She has had plenty of chances and has never stepped up. Rodman never was and never will be an international caliber player.

Holy glaze Sophia is nowhere near the level of Maccario or Swanson leaving her off the team isn’t the end of the world
