THANK YOU A LOT for your work and your videos! In my country(Russia) there is a big problem to find a voice teacher who can normally to answer about the technic of singing and about the high tenor register especially(high B C ...). Can you please give some tips or advices how to sing different vowels and especially i need to understand how to sing "i" vowel !!! Thank you so much !

The 'ee' vowel comes from falsetto and will eventually become a good vowel for high notes but yes I will make a video about the vowels and about breathing. Thanks for your comments!

Could you please elaborate on why you should never sing full tilt in this stage and how to gradually increase the intensity? I watched all your videos and couldn't find an answer. After I started doing falsetto exercises my voice became more free and effortless but whenever I try to sing full chest my voice becomes hoarse and painful really fast.

The main thing at this stage is to establish falsetto dominance. Once that has been established it`s ok to go `full tilt` with chest. Having said that, be careful that the chest doesn`t overwhelm the falsetto dominance. I would guess that you are doing something wrong with the chest voice. It is absolutely safe to sing `full tilt` chest voice. The vocal folds love a strong adduction and will be healthier for it. The only problem with strong chest voice production is that it makes high note coordination difficult, but the folds will remain healthy. If you get hoarse it means the folds aren`t adducting healthily. Make sure you have a strong inspiratory tension (inhalare la voce) so that the folds close without breath escaping. We do need airflow for correct coordination but when building up the chest as a separate register it is safer to do it with inspiratory tension and strong TA closure. Have you seen my new video about vibrato? That may well answer your questions.

@@JussiPaul Thank you so much! I have seen your video on vibrato but I didn't think it had something to do with my problem. Now that I think about it, most of the time my voice is straight without vibrato. I guess that is a sign of weak inspiratory tension

@@stunugh Yes, that could be it but you could also be using jaw or neck tension to close the vocal folds. The closing sensation needs to come from the very edgy high falsetto which I demonstrate in the Appoggio video and not the thick TA mechanism from the chest. The CT muscle needs to take over the work in the chest voice and once it does the vibrato should appear though the exercise I show in the Vibrato video will help to give you the idea of how the healthy mechanism functions.

@@JussiPaul By "edgy high falsetto", do you mean when you gradually go from an "oo" vowel in B4 to an "ah" vowel as you demonstrate in your high notes video? I am working on that and it doesn't make me hoarse. My issue has become very clear to me now after my last comment, it *is* my chest voice; for some reason it is breathy no matter how I try to isolate it from falsetto. So what is the proper way to adduct the vocal folds? and how do I fix my chest voice? This is a confusing topic with a lot of jargon and your channel is an invaluable source for people like me who find the books written about it too confusing and conflict each other. I really appreciate your replies.

@@stunugh I mean the one I demonstrate in the Appoggio video, starting above the high C and bringing that small edgy sound down. You will learn correct TA closure with this and hopefully will help you find true chest voice.

Wonderful videos, much appreciated Sir! A question if I may: I've been trying to get close to this particular sound male tenor singers produced in the 1920-30's singing the vocal choruses in big bands. Being a baritone (I think) I have a problem "lightening" my voice in the general area of the passagio (and before). Most of those vocalists wouldn't go past G4 so I think I can do this. But the tone and the delicacy of the timbre is what I'm having a hard time succeeding in.. ..Would working on my falsetto help in that direction? That you in advance! 💗 Here's a sound sample of the tone I'm striving for: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ps2lradzmarKinU.html

The singer in the video (Scrappy Lambert - great name!) is using a nasalized falsetto so yes falsetto exercises will definitely help you to achieve this sound. Start by breaking off the pure 'oo' hooty falsetto and once that is free and secure you can start to experiment with nasalizing the vowel sounds. You could maybe start with a pure 'oo' and then modify it to a french 'en' sound. Don't try to add the full voice like I demonstrate in the passaggio video but I would recommend you do that as well in order to keep the voice healthy and strong. Chest development will help the falsetto to develop. Maybe do alternate days ie. one day sing pure falsetto exercises combined with chest coordination exercises and one day just concentrate on finding the twenties nasalized falsetto sound. I hope that is helpful?

@@ukulelenick Yes, I think he is the epitomy of tasteful singing. He can use full voice, falsetto, messa di voce, everything. He's in a different class altogether. His falsetto is more refined than Scrappy Lambert's and it is very difficult to hear exactly where his full voice ends and his falsetto begins which is another sign of great singing. With Lambert it's obvious where he breaks though he does it very well.
