great info and suggestion on how to approach the game. also Exactly how im approaching this. A 2nd card game that is more casual and less of a dent on the wallet. I went for the precons, a booster box and the 2 player mat. seems a good start.

I'm always excited for a unique twist on a TCG, I also love the sound of larger sets with an extended period between sets. It also means the game isn't going to be warped every few months and the focus on Kitchen Table is way more my speed, it's pretty much how I play Magic and FaB at the moment.

From my 1st play, I really enjoyed the portal card, in which u can treat 2 spaces as though they were adjacent. I don't recall ever out & out teleporting in a grid card game.

Been waiting for this and I'm super excited about it even if to just collect the cards. Old school art gets me everytime and been waiting for something like this for a long, long time. Was hoping Wizards would make a standalone casual product with all old school inspired art and abilities like this, and who knows... with the apparent success of Sorc so far, maybe they will. Even so, I'm so excited to receive the kickstarter items.

You just add it on to any backing level! It's what I did (I added a starter deck set and the 2 player mat to my pledge)

I just got 1 booster box on the kickstarter page, would that be enough to make decks for 2 players? or should I also get the starter deck package?

36 packs. 15 cards per pack. That's 540 cards. Around 140 non-ordinary cards. You need 60 card decks, technically. Yes you'll be able to make some decks for 2 players just fine. Just don't expect to end up with full copies of all the cards that you want to put into the decks. But plenty to have a good time with and explore the game with 2. (We don't know yet how the avatars themselves will be distributed. But those are easy to use a placeholder for, in case you run into trouble there.) The preconstructed decks are probably better if you're very uncertain whether you will end up liking this game/wanting more of this game.

You’re right. The lands are more than mana, they actually play a role in setting up your big turn. I like how one card can shut down a aggressive player. Not once did I feel the game was over no matter how bad it look. I was like I need to pull a land or spell that will turn the tide of battle and start my momentum.

Love the body swap card. Seems like a very good game ender. I’ve thought about using that with the ruler of thul (frazetta art polar bear guy) and death dealer. Great video! Keep up the great content!

Personally I hope competitive play is supported even if the game is not necessarily designed for it. It's just too natural for players to want to test their mettle against others.

I agree and I’m sure there will be. I just hope since it’s one set a year that they will change up tournaments. Like not just a straight up standard but like best 2 element deck or best pauper deck and maybe a king of the hill or capture the flag type thing.

There actually is a limit of 10 for each add-on. Thats not an issue for me. Im just picking up 3 boxes, a mat and starter set. I suspect you can mix and match until you get the amounts you are looking for.

Im pretty interested in this because of how promising it is, as well as the fantastic looking artwork. However, i do think that not having organized play will definitely hurt the game. It won't give any potential players any reason to spend money on singles or to play the game. With no benefits to winning essentially, what will keep players interested long term? Something to think about

You see, that's what I meant when I was saying a lot of my friends and fellow content creators are treating it like other TCGs. That is the mindset of a TCG player - when you think of it more like a board game (or even an lcg to some extent) then it makes a lot more sense. I see it more like Arkham Horror, which also does not have OP but is VERY successful because of how fun it is to play at the kitchen table. I also see it somewhat akin to D&D in that regard as well. Only 1 set a year and no OP heavily caters to the more casual board game audience who *will* still be invested long term just because they enjoy playing and collecting so much.

@@RedZoneRogue i actually agree that OP is holding it back. It is a bit too complicated and complex to just pull out and introduce to new players on a game night. This required a will to learn and time to learn it, therefor I think pushing it to OP is a much wiser move

To be fair, 1 set per year, but multiple revisions. Like you said LGS's will most likely get a revised version, so building a set will be easy.

I'd love to back the game, but work screwed me out of some money. Hopefully that can be resolved so I can toss some cash their way, because I love everything about this game so far, from the fantastic art to the tabletop/boardgame style gameplay.

Hey new subscriber. I enjoyed your pack video the other day and insight on this game. Please add more sorcery content when you know more. I've been a MTG player since 96 and it's always been my favorite but there is something to this game. It feels new almost like when. I first got into magic. This game is so vanilla and perfect I can't wait to play with my wife and kids . We got a starter set and 3 booster boxes and Sept can't get here soon enough.

So it seems like sites are not element specific. Some sites may have an element symbol but it doesn't stop other elements from having it in their deck? That may come back to bite them as a design flaw.

Why not just state the rarity breakdown of the 400 cards? Collectibility is big part of every CCG. For me, the casual nature of the game makes me want to get a complete set even more so then if it was competitive in nature. In case of the latter, I would just buy singles. In this case, like owning a board game, I want the complete deal.

The rarity types are listed on the Kickstarter but nobody knows the actual set breakdowns yet. I know each rarity will have its own print sheet for manufacturing but that doesn't say too much

Right. They also updated the FAQ with a booster pack breakdown. 1 in 5 chance for a Unique, so about 7 per box and 42 per case. I just hope the number of Uniques is within reason. Limiting alpha to Kickstarter has me worried for single availability. Especially in Europe.

TCG and CCG are essentially interchangeable terms. CCG may imply that you cannot trade (like digital games such as Hearthstone). Most people and games opt to use TCG these days as it is more commonly used

@@RedZoneRogue I’ll be more specific. Is there a reason this is a booster pack product rather than a self contained product? If there’s no competitive need to get all the cards or use for the cards outside of playing at home, why buy boosters at all? Sounds like you could just get the precons and never get a booster and not miss out on much. I assume the answer is that they can make more off boosters, but idk

@@thefurrypanda I think the answer is the simplest possible in this case - Erik the creator simply wanted to make a classic tcg and likes opening boosters. He also likes limited play which you can't do with an LCG. There's likely other reasons (like tcgs are more profitable for both the business and game stores - they're also more exciting and generate more coverage etc etc) If it were my choice in this position I'd make it a tcg too

1 Set a year won't be sustainable to hold player's interest, it better be ridiculously well balanced with tons of viable decks. Metas and optimal builds get figured out too quickly. There is no LGS scene for long if the same 3 decks are played for 10 straight months. Every successful play at home card game I can think either isn't blind draw from boosters (Dominion, Summoner Wars, Arkham Horror) or is based on a very well known IP. (And usually they fulfill both of these requirements). What is the example of the casual, at home with blind draw and no strong IP? The closest I can think of is Keyforge and that is was closer to a 2x/year new set release schedule and they added some competitive events

Nothing unique about this besides the constant stacking of cards, which is also a terrible design choice. Its tedious, clutters the board, and hides the art (which is the main draw of the game). Grid-based card game? Try Summoner Wars, Genesis BOC, or Legacy's Allure. Casual card game? That is what MTG was designed to be and how it plays best. Saying something is unique over and over and over doesn't actually make it unique. I've played it. The gameplay is mediocre. This is an art project to appeal to investors and collectors. That's fine, let's not pretend its more than that.

I didn't mention the grid based system a single time in this video - but I'll still take this comment in good faith. I've played every game mentioned (and have even spoken to the creators of two of them) and I still enjoy Sorcery much more. What other game only has 1 set a year with 400 cards? That alone makes it much better for the casual player since you don't have to constantly chase the next set every few months to stay relevant - it's significantly easier on wallet fatigue and allows for folks with smaller budgets and less time to play and still feel up to date. Also, while you can stack cards it's a pretty bad strategy as you'll get absolutely wrecked by splash damage. It's fine that you don't like it but please don't spin my words and intent to be something that they're not.
