Omari's character is the whole movie. Let me explain. Omari was the face of the Power Callers. From the first instant we see him waiting at the golden elevator, shiny suit, pimp hat, fancy mustache/beard, eye patch this man is the definition of fly and original. When we're introduced to him he's so nice we dont even get to find out his name. But he's the one that personally called up Cash upstairs to the PC's. "You were the best decision I've ever made." He was the one that bonded Cash together with the CEO. He reveals his true voice to cash, explaining to him that after [his meeting with Armie Hammer,] Everything will change. And it did. Now as we know, Armie's Plan is to send Cash down the ranks, stir up a horse revolution, and be the company's eyes and ears during the controlled revolt. And isn't that exactly what Omari's character did? He hand chose Cash up the ranks knowing that he'd eventually revolt himself, and afterwards, Omari's character suddenly dipped. Specifically when Cash had succeeded in blocking the PC's from entering the building. Omari's job in starting a revolution is done. Scratch that HE WALKED OVER THE FALLEN OFFICERS WITH A SMIRK ON HIS FACE. And speaking of face? The group actively trying to take down the corporation know as WorryFree was know as Left Eye. Guess what eye Omari's eye patch is on? And this brings up an even bigger question. Who sent Omari down to start a revolution. And would that mean we're all inside a even larger world of labor that WorryFree was trying to create?

Are we forgetting the huge foreshadowing at the start, with the interview? "This is telemarketing! It's not like we're altering the human genome here! Haha" Literally what they were doing

My theory is that Mr. ____'s name is censored because he literally lost his own identity by giving up all of his morals to his job.

I think the bandage on his head was interesting. It was always profusely bleeding until he decided to rebel against the company. That was when it started healing. So maybe it was a metaphor for blood and that the humiliation that ensued in exchange for money.

That rap scene is the best scene of the year. SPOILERS: I think the scene accurately depicts how some people perceive hip hop. Lyrics in rap songs can have a lot of substance and meaning, but it often gets overshadowed by the n-word and cussing. When Cassius awkwardly tries to rhyme in the beginning, the crowd (all white) ain’t invested in it, but once he starts saying the n-word & shit, everyone at the party is enthusiastically into it. It really shows what most people take out of rap these days.

Went into this movie expecting a comedy. Came out WOKE asf and a new man.

Spoilers Mr._______ was in the Left-eye the whole time. He knew what would happen to Cassius the whole time and that Cassius had the right psychological profile to start the revolution against Worryfree. Right before he gets Lift’s evil Plan explained to him, Mr._______ tells him something along the lines of “ don’t screw this up” (i don’t remember the exact line). Additionally, Boots said that his name is spelled with seven underscores, the same amount of letters in “Left eye”. Also, he has an eye patch over his left eye.

SPOILER Remember how right after snorting the fusing agent that he thought was coke, Cassius really has to pee? There’s that phrase... “piss like a racehorse...”

I thought when he was chasing the car that he was going to start galloping like a horse.

I’ve got theory that Armie was telling telling the truth, and he did actually give Cash Coke, I think Cash went back the next day and signed the deal, we see him put the key code in to enter the building but we don’t see him breaking free the horses and besides how would he of done this? I think he signed the deal not for the money but rather because this was the only way he could break the picket line with the extra horsepower, so in turn he played Armie because he made him think he was just a stooge so he was surprised when he ran up on him at the end of the movie and double crossed him (hence why this end clip is in the movie). Extra evidence for this is during the riot, Cash blew a whistle which signalled for the security to come knock only him out and nobody else coincidentally, and put him in a van where he could be safe from the riot but will look like a prisoner in the eyes of the horses when they come to save him, their “MLK”. Also he gave Jermaine Fowler his Maserati knowing full well he won’t need it anymore, and with the money Armie gave him he pocketed a humble vehicle with it, knowing again he won’t need it. Finally I think the big telltale sign was when Tessa Thompson brought up the Sun exploding, he dismissed it and wasn’t bothered even though numerous times at the beginning of the movie when he was still pure hearted this was something he constantly brought up, and now when he supposedly pure hearted again he doesn’t care about it? I think this is because he already knows his fate.

I mean Cassius did eventually become their own MLK by turning into a horse too. He's their leader now which is exactly what Armie Hammer's character wanted. Maybe Cassius agreed to his offer and is just Hammer's mole in the resistance from now on

Besides the movie's mesaage and themes and what not. The direction was also creative. The scene where they show Cassius becoming more succesful overtime is one of my favorites. How the furniture literally transforms through practical effects and the timelapse with the bed sheets. Very creative visual storytelling right there. The music was also pretty cool.

Anyone else think that the head Power Caller pocketing the tissue which he used to wipe Cassius' bloody forehead has some greater significance to the story? Was that so they had sample of his original DNA so they could turn him back into a human if he accepted and completed his contract as the mole MLK of the horse-people?

Great video as always, but I feel you missed a big theme throughout the film. The film to me appeared to be a critique of capitalism and the illusions it sets up for success. The illusion of becoming an all mighty "power caller" resembles the idea of the American dream and how anyone can make it in capitalism if they work hard enough. The idea that making ends meet is becoming so hard in current day capitalism that people are willing to become slaves for corporations in order to survive. The way people react to the news of "Worry Free" turning people into horse-human hybrids is a critique of how people in current day capitalism will not fight against worse conditions imposed on them, but will simply accept them and adapt to them. It shows how people in current day capitalism have grown fond of their chains instead of trying to escape from them. Also when the CEO of "Worry Free" tells Cassius that turning workers into horse-human hybrids is not illogical it harps back to a very important diversion in philosophy. It sounds a lot like a debate between thinkers and ideas of the enlightenment vs those of the postmodernism. While the enlightenment thinkers will argue that reason and logic are the best things possible, postmodernist will urge them to see that it too has its limits and is not all good. In other words, the postmodernist would say of course reason and logic are great tools, but just because something is reasonable and logical does not mean we should do it. Just as it was perfectly logical and reasonable for "Worry Free" to turn their slave workers into horses for a higher profit, we would be urged to say that they should not do so. Overall, the movie has a very Marxist overtone as well with the workers uniting and creating unions to demand their dues from the telemarketing company. It has the spirit of revolution for change. However, the more reasonable conclusion it comes to follows more closely the spirit of the Frankfurt School, especially the ideas of Herbert Marcuse. Detroit using her art to show the oppression of capitalism goes back to Marcuse's idea of using art as a tool for liberation, a way to fight capitalism while being a member of it. The ending, when Cassius turns into a horse-person, is also a reminder that even if you beat the system and get paid it will continue to oppress you even while you look to protest it. It pays tribute to just how good capitalism is at keeping its working class members oppressed while having them believe they are truly making a change. At the end of the day, the main theme I found in this movie was not one of calling for communism or Marxism or any other type of political agenda or revolution. What it did do, and very well in my opinion, was use satire to expose serious flaws in modern day capitalism and the tools it uses to keep the working class oppressed. The only problem with the movie though is a lot of people will get caught up in the satire and take it seriously, and in doing so they will be left confused by this movie and missing its very important points.

I loved the literal interpretation of Lakeith's character "Cassius Green" being dependent on, blinded by, then liberated from the trap of money.

This movie is best when you take an edible right during the previews so that way by the third act it kicks in and then you REALLY watch the movie.

Cash took the job! Remember what he was told when he became a power caller. They are arms dealers. When someone needs a drone strike, they make that perfect dinner time call. Switch to his first client and slave trade?! Nah, it’s not about slaves, it’s about creating a marketable super soldier. How can they be marketed? Hire someone that will lead them to revolt so governments around the world will see how violent they are. That’s why stock prices jumped. That’s why Cash just happened to have the perfect video from a phone he lost. The whole thing was orchestrated to help him do the “horse Moses” job. The truth behind the main character is that he remained a sellout as long as the price was right. It was all about the Cash.

This movie was so good and wrapped up in so many metaphors that after watching you become so consumed and addicted with trying to figure it all out.

I really thought there would be something to tie up all the shots of Detroits earrings. They had extreme close ups but were nothing more than empty symbolism. But, I guess that's the same for her performance art.

Had no idea what I was walking into until the "Clearly Olive" door haha

Watching through this movie the first time I thought Steve Lift’s plan to make Cassius the “Martin Luther king jr.” of the equisapiens failed, because Cassius turns down his offer for $100000000 and is clearly against the idea. But what if this was part of Lift’s plan all along? What if he knew how Cassius was going to react, which is why he gave him the powder before he made the offer? In the end, the equisapiens do come to view Cassius as a leader or MLK of sorts when they free him from the armored car and say “thank you for setting us free” or something like that. Cassius then later turns into an equisapien, and in the final clip he has organized a group of equisapiens to go to Lift’s house to fight. Watching this scene again, I noticed that Lift doesn’t even get up off the couch when Cassius and the gang bust down the door. Maybe Steve Lift’s master plan is beyond enhancing the worryfree workforce which is why he appeared so calm at the end. Or... what if Cassius actually took the deal and is just pretending to fight for the workers rights like Steve wanted, and the reason Steve chose him wasn’t because he’s awesome, or “a great power caller” but because he has shown throughout the movie that he is willing to sell out his friends and his morals for money.

The use of surrealism to make a point is really good in this movie. Sometimes things don't need to be metaphorical, they just need to be exaggerated. Like when Steve Lift is talking about turning people in horses and he defends himself by saying it's not for no reason, it's for money! Like that makes it okay... Sometimes making something smack-you-in-the-face obvious makes it clear how realistic it is that someone like that could or does exist

I like how theThe company is called Worryfree and that's how the white voice is "supposed to sound"

The one thing I noticed is that Mr. Blank who stands as the corporate representation of Worry Free has the eye patch over his right eye (leaving only the left visible). The group protesting Worry Free is named Left Eye. Since we learn that this company creates it's own controllable protest group, there is an indication that Left Eye is also controlled by them. So even when Detriot and others try and protest and vandalize signs, it's all within the bounds that Worry Free allows. That's the only theory I have, and its a pretty simple one. I did like this movie. It kind of threw everything against the wall and not all of it stuck, but more than enough did for me. The rapping scene was amazing. Edit: I just realized that the eye patch is over his left eye (oops, sorry about that). The theory still stands though given that the left eye mark is a black marking by the eye and the eye patch is also black.

Surprised you didn’t bring up the fact that the whole thing sending him to the wrong room for the bathroom was on purpose, and that the video that went viral was staged.

I’m really late for this obviously but I watched the film last night and thought of a theory. Major spoilers ahead obviously. Although this movies been out for a while so why haven’t you seen it yet? One thing that I always felt was weird was how Cassius changes. He doesn’t slowly get more horse like, he straight up shows no sign of changing for the entire third act until right at the very end when he goes from normal human to horse on no time flat. If we assume that Cassius believes that there really is an anti-horse drug, as he was told, and that he was seeking this drug in showing up at the house at the very end of the movie (after the false credit start), then I think it is safe to say that he would have went there as soon as possible. This assuming, of course, that his fellow horses weren’t hard to track down before storming the place. (Which they shouldn’t be seeing as how he literally called them on the phone earlier in the film) Assuming all of this is correct, my theory is simple. Cassius really did snort cocaine that night at the party. And he didn’t take the horse drugs until later off screen. If Cassius agreed to help the company, which he would have incentive to do seeing as the man offering this job to him was holding a gun at the time, then the rest of the movie could be showing this plan as it comes together. The plan is as follows: Cassius shows the world what Worry Free is doing to their workers in an “attempt” to expose them. However, in this society people don’t really care about what happens to other people. (I mean the number one show on television is literally just people being beaten up.) So society ends up embracing the company even more and stock prices raise drastically. Cassius then helps with the uprising and sets free all other horse people as was his goal all along. At the end of the day, Cassius gets to keep his job, albeit not the same position as he held previously, and he also gets his friends and girlfriend back, as at the time the deal was made, he has just lost them and would do anything for his old life back. Once the strike is taken care of, and the company stock rises to a point they are comfortable with, he secretly takes the drugs that will turn him into a horse within the next few days. He then follows through with the rest of his task, bringing the horses back to the place they escaped from (possibly with guards waiting to capture them once inside) and he is rewarded with his cure. And possibly 100 million dollars. What do you think? Is it possible that Cassius really did go along with the plan? And if so, what do you think this tells us about his character. Ps it’s not a stretch to show that he would screw over his friends like that since he’s kind of been doing it the whole movie.

Cassius was just hallucinating everything after he was hit in the head with the soda can. Everything just gets progressively more insane from that point due to the non stop bleeding.

The plate on Steve Lift's desk where Cash snorts the horse catalyst dug says: Mr. Bobo. A bOBO is a sociology term for a bourgeois bohemian. Cash becoming a capitalist becomes Mr. Bobo by still trying to connect to the struggle of his peers, for instance: the art show scene, but he is too bourgeois to understand or appreciate the art. This theme is reinforced when Cash sees the painted billboard (brandalism) by Left Eye in the mansion of Steve Lift. Bourgeois people try to appropriate bohemian culture. There are a lot of themes in the movie about social stratification.

The title itself is the most obvious metaphor. "Sorry to Bother You" shows how black people are often seen as an inconvenience and they are often the ones taking the blame for faults in society. However, once he uses his white voice, he no longer has to say "Sorry to Bother You"

Dang, I'm reading and agreeing with a lot of these theories. But what I got from the movie was entirely different. I saw the third act and Cassius' come up as an allegory for the horrors of slave trade. Hear me out: Worry Free is being criticized for slave labor. Cassius has a low paying, low socio-economic status, until he is promoted to be a Power Caller. He then starts selling "slaves". People who were just like him. This reminded me of how slaves were often sold to colonizers from people in their own culture, community, or background. The horse people to me was a metaphor of how slave owners would force relationships between the "most fit" slaves so that they could procreate an even stronger, better working generation. This realization made the "horse c**k" joke even funnier. Cassius dismisses his blackness and becomes part of the evil that is white and it isn't until the rap scene where we find that Cash is starting to regret losing himself and his culture. Cash eventually becomes an equisapien once he revolts and embraces his old culture and roots. He becomes what the white man wanted, but it comes back to haunt the white man.

I just watched the movie going in thinking it's about telemarketing (being a former telemarketer myself) and by the third act I almost couldn't believe it

How about this. The reason cassius’ cut and bandage is above his right eye is because the symbol of the rebellion against worry free is a black symbol under the left eye.

The movie shows the evils of creating underclasses- the management using the rank of power caller to keep Cash from joining the strike, Cash’s experiences of racism throughout the film, the Elon Musk character’s casual sexism, and of course the end. In the film as in our world, hierarchies are used to justify inhumanity to other people. The film wants us to see this for the horror it truly is.

My Mom & some of her friends, in the way back machine, started a center for battered women called RESPOND. I wish I could remember her exact words in this story I want to tell you. We went to McDonald's, not something we usually did. I was an annoyed younger teen. One thing I found cool... towards the start of the film he's enters the VIP section of a bar he's drinking in after learning the password... while in this VIP section he's cramped, uncomfortable and even get alcohol spilled on him and he walks out all pissed off. But when he becomes a power caller and closes the $10m deal, they throw a party for him were they literally douse him in alcohol and he loves it

I just went to watch this movie last night, but I didn’t finish watching this video first. Me and my friends were just staring at the plot twist. Nothing could’ve prepared me for that.

That third act reveal is what made the movie 10/10 for me.

Colors seemed to be very prominent and significant in this movie. Of course, you could stretch the meaning as far as you wanted since the whole film is in color, but I thought the most obvious and deliberate meaning happens during the scene where Cassius is meeting with Staff. All the doors are green but Staff's office, which is magenta (the opposite of green). Even as his name suggests, Cash IS green, and whatever lies behind the magenta door is not him. Now, Cash entering one of the green rooms could mean many things, but its simplest effect is probably foreshadowing (seeing as it's where we first see the horse people). Although, I personally subscribe to the idea that each door hides something that describes Cassius, meaning he is a distinct and interesting person. If he were to accept Staff's deal in the magenta room, he would no longer be himself but merely an identity-less puppet working for Worry-Free. Nameless, just as Mr. _______

Honestly I loved how the plate he snorts the powder from has a horse on it. I knew the plot twist going in and that was when I realized it was about to hit

I remember at one point Detroit was giving Cassius a piggyback ride when they were on their way to a meeting about the strike Squeeze organized I thought it was a very specific choice for the makers to have Detroit carry Cassius on her back, since that's normally something a man would do. Plus Tessa Thompson is 5'4" and LaKeith Stanfield is 6'. I'm pretty strong for a woman my size and I'm taller than Tessa, but still I think it would be near impossible for me to support a 6' man like that, so I thought it must be to make a point, probably about metaphorical strength. I think there's a few different directions one could go in interpreting it. Does anyone have any thought?

You know we talk about the growth and character arc of Vash, but this movie is so trippy and subliminal, I wonder if even that is real. You showed the clip where they talk about PTSD and PTG, so what if Stockholm Syndrome is a part of this? What if even though Cash does literally and figuratively become another person, he doesn't in the way that we think he did. Maybe all along he's actually being a double agent and is being a false leader of the Equus Sapiens. It would definitely make a point about how what you think you see is not always what is actually happening. And how you don't always know someone's true motivations.
