Install Vinyl Plank from a Hallway into a Room NO Transition Strip is needed! No one wants to have break at a door, we want the plank to flow throughout seamlessly. Right? Of course we do and in this video I share how to do this.
Here are the links to tools I use. If you use these links I do get a commission and my family and I thank you very much for your support!

Nice meeting the fam. A true blessing, Sir. I'm East of you right now over in Virginia renovating a duplex I bought in April. Been laying carpet for my first time ever in a few rooms here and I have to say it's more tiresome and exhausting than laying vinyl plank. Removing the old carpet and padding, pulling all the staples, laying new pad, then stretching fitting, cutting, trimming, tucking... all after hauling heavy rolls if carpet and pad up a flight of stairs, whew! Makes for a good night of sleep. Brings a deep appreciation for the skills and hard work of those who do this stuff for a living. It's nice to get done and then admire my handiwork, feeling like I made good money by saving money doing this all myself. Rock on! ✌🏼

Watching you work with your guys on this floor has totally set the process in my mind to the point where I’m now confident that I’ll do a good job of our floor in what is our first house. I have the whole house to do on a concrete floor and want no door transition strips. I’ll start with a centre line in the central hallway, making sure to measure out so the boards land in sensible places at the doorways and against the walls, then go out from there. I I really appreciate your videos Joe. It’s fun watching you and your team do their thing.

I never use filler just take a piece of scrap vinyl or cardboard it's a floating floor you can get away with more than you think remember the tap and lock products are not as good as having locking mechanisms all the way around and just because it's waterproof you still have to use Vapor Barrier on concrete 6 mil preferred they don't want you putting cabinets on top of it

I noticed you don't leve room for expansion I thought the rule of thumb was a quarter of a inch on each side so it doesn't lift per instuchen on manufacture directions 🤔
@suet9761
@suet9761 2 жыл бұрын
The space under the drywall is sufficient for the expansion given the thinness of the material shown - it's thinner than the space between the drywall and the subfloor. Drywall is 1/2" thick, so what is being shown is about a 5/8" expansion joint. Based on the installation, it would appear that new baseboard will be installed over the new flooring. If your flooring is thicker than the space between the subfloor and drywall, you need more expansion area. Vinyl floors request 1/4" expansion joints for a reason - the vinyl expands and contracts with the weather. If there is insufficient expansion joint, the vinyl install will buckle (expand) during warmer times and show seams (contract) during cooler times. I chose "times," as A/C can create a cold time as well as weather. ;)

No matter the specific job requirements, there are several items that need to be addressed and followed during any floating-floor installation” When available, the flooring manufacturer’s instruction on preparation, installation, or use of the wood floor. Where manufacturer instruction are unavailable, lack information, or they reference NWFA Guidelines, use NWFA guidelines. Important things like minimum tolerance of 1/8” in 6’ or 3/16” in 10’ ( subfloor Flatness) Any doorway less than 4 ft in width, and within any flooring system that spans are greater than 20 feet in width or greater than 40 ft in length ( in comparison to flooring installation direction), unless otherwise directed by the flooring manufacturer.

Do you happen to have a video showing plank installation going straight through a doorway (instead of side to side)? I'm assuming I can do this but I'm a little nervous about it having not seen any videos showing any unique challenges I might want or need to consider. I'm planking my hallway, bathroom and kitchen and want the planks to go all in the same direction which means planks will run forward through the bathroom door instead of left to right)

I'm still trying to understand fully how you use the cheater board. If i understand this correctly you're setting up the vinyl planking so that it is a specific distance away from the wall of your choice so that it centered in the room. Then the first she of vinyl planking behind the Pieces that you screw into the floor are the pieces that you cut? I kind of get it on a kind of don't i'm so sorry i'm struggling with the concept. If there's a very specific video where you show how to use a cheater board I would love a link to that. I will also look around on youtube and see if I can find some different explanations. But I really like your videos. Thank you for the post.

@SoThatsHowYouDoThat

No matter what you will get some stair stepping when looking at the floor from certain directions. The plank is all the same size and because of this it is impossible not to see stair stepping. As far as the H goes, that is pretty simple to avoid. Just always try and be sure butt joints never line up and you are golden!!

When you mentioned snapping a line to make sure the boards are straight, it confused me a bit. What would you do if the boards aren't running straight and square as you go into the next room? How would you change the way they're running if they have to snap into each other? I can understand snapping a line if you're using a transition strip, because it's a separate floor at that point. How would you square it up if it's a continuous run though?
