I am so glad I am on my last leg in this life! As a 20 yr. military veteran, an American citizen for over 70 yr's, I am ashamed for the first time in my life of the so called and NEW rule of law in OUR country! I hope my children and grandchildren have enough foresight to be able to change the wrong that is happening to our democracy and free way of living!

I agree in principle, but the nation's founders wanted the executive, the court and the congress to be separate in order to protect the constitution - they could not know that 200 years later the evil Trump and the SCOTUS would abuse the spirit of the law. Justice Sotomayor is right to descent. The only one out of nine people with some morality.

There were dozens, probably hundreds, maybe even thousands of members of the media who did a lot and tried hard to affect more than they did... including reporters and anchors at MSNBC and other legitimate networks, writers at the Washington Post and New York Times, and many others including innumerable bloggers, KZfaqrs, etc., but they lost out to the Faux News Propaganda network and their ilk. There were many in Congress who tried, too; but the fact that nearly every Congressional Republican has been complicit with this extremist takeover of the government defeated those efforts, as well. Plenty are fighting, we're just outnumbered, or when we're not outnumbered we're outmaneuvered, and when we're not outnumbered or outmaneuvered... they fight dirtier than we do...

If it's their guy, it's official. If it's the other side's guy, it's unofficial. The Supreme Court has just sliced out a big part of the power constitutionally granted to the legislative branch for itself. This decision, which grants the executive carte blanche, along with overturning Chevron deference, places the judiciary as the new decider to place constraints on one particular party while allowing the other to do as it pleases. This is what happens when you allow bad actors to pack the court with partisan hacks.

What to me is astonishing is that, when distinguishing between official and unofficial acts, a court may not take into account the motive with which a presidential act is undertaken. (Opinion page 18) This means that a President can utilise official duties with impunity. He can utilise an official act specifically to eliminate a political rival and his motive is not even relevant. Surely the motive with which a President acts should be a cardinal consideration?

Could it be high time then for Biden to use some of this newly found presidential immunity to resolve the burgeoning headache called trump once and for all? Could he not unleash his new found powers of immunity against some of those who have been attempting to impeach him? I know it's not in Biden's nature or character to make such flagrant abuse of his position, but just 'sayin'. Maybe time to fight fire with fire. The electorate has arrived at high stakes gambling for their's and the countrie's future.

No. The decision is specific to Trump. That is clear in Roberts' written opinion. It will not apply to anyone not approved by this SC majority. Trump will not be sentenced on July 11. That has been moved to September. It is likely that a mistrial will be declared then and the record will be expunged. Trump will never be convicted of anything, ever.

not quite. scotus (aka roberts) said this new immunity will be decided in the future by scotus. so if biden tries anything: "NOT IMMUNE" if trump breaks even more laws: "IMMUNE" (scotus opinion LITERALLY says that they are the arbiter of this bs - but lower courts are free to flail however they choose before scotus "decides" whether they're wrong)
