The pacing is perfect (kill boss -> new power), the bosses are freakish (just what you want in a good boss), and the characters, their relationships and dialogue is ALL top notch. Plus when you watch the movies on KZfaq you don't get the damn block puzzles! :D

The Prodigal Son is a story told by Jesus that talks about a son that left home a long time and wasted his money and goods so he ended in ruin, years passed and he was thought dead by his family, but one day while he strayed by the world he found his home and returned to his family. The feelings of the characters in this story among each others are very different from what we have in soul reaver, but the Prodigal Son story is mentioned as a metafor of Raziel's return

They were close as Vampires, but after Raziel was cast into the Lake of the Dead, they all broke apart like Nosgoth itself. Rahab and Kain were still close, but the others separated to solitude. This is why they recognize him, and believe they are superior, except Rahab, who recognizes Raziel and Kain as more powerful.

It's kind of disturbing that all of Raziel's Vampire comrades evolved into abominations of nature over time when Raziel spent lying in the Elder God's Lair. I never thought Vampires could evolve like that before. Kain has to be the worst commander in chief to let his brood become monstrous beings, he should have cracked a whip on Zephon, Melchiah, Turel (he was absent in Soul Reaver 1 but came back in Deficance) and Dumah and showed them whose boss. After all, they're the ones who damned Raz.

It's past the area where you start seeing the spider-like vampires with people in cocoons. There's a couple annoying puzzles to get there, and it's also the first area you need to use the Reaver to open a door to access (as you just gained this ability from Kain before you would normally come here).

Maybe that's how Zephonims are made. Maybe he just uses the corpses of his victims and sort of incubates them, turning them into vampires. I'm just guessing, I don't think they thought out that part.

A remake would be fantastic, imagine gaining more from Zephon than just being able to climb. Webs that grasp objects from further away, a shell that can guard from attacks (including a sort of exoskelton that increases defence and strength, some control over his clan members that have gone rogue etc. This A calibre acting, story and theme with upgraded mechanics would be awesome. I'd pay money for that.

How can you say that? Every creature in the material realm in this game is either a vampire or a human. He was killing every vampire in Nosgoth and when he sees a random looking one, he decides to spare it? I have to respectfully disagree with you on that one. Plus, Raziel was mortified when he first saw Melchiah and also later on when he saw Turel. Raziel does experience fear or at least astonishment at the very least. He's a badass but every character in this game has their flaws.

yes this game is a true legend, one of the best games of yhe ps1, this was the best part of the game getting to zephon and doing all those puzzles, this was the most challenging part of the game just getting to him and the music was awesome!!!

You've got to get pretty close to the center of the wind tunnel (after opening all the vents), jump, grab your wings, and kind of make a tight circle as you float up - if you get too far from the center of the wind tunnel, you'll lose the lift and start to fall again. Little tricky till you get the hang of it.

I think they call him the prodigal son because he evolved first. Before Kain, even. That's what made Kain throw him in to the abyss. That and it would release him from the wheel of fate or whatever, giving him freewill. So, they would in fact know that he was the 'prodigal son' in Nosgoth.

Indeed. The altered timeline has much to show. An altered Soul Reaver would be cool, with perhaps a few Razielim survivors to aid Raziel, and maybe a combination of the old ending, where Raziel activates the Silenced Cathedral, and the main ending, pursuing Kain across time. But a twist could be there as well. Upon the death of all vampires, save for Kain, the Hylden return, and Raziel is forced to flee to Moebius' former abode, where he encounters Kain, fights him, and goes into Soul Reaver 2.

exactly, in Soul reaver the main reason for a spell to be unlocked is to allow you progress the storyline into the next area, so if you have all of them already at the begginning theres nothing stopping you going to the 2nd last boss and skipping 90% of the storyline, thus getting you very confused

hylden curse didn't make vampires sterile, it was not the case, they cursed vampires so that they had an everlasting hunger for blood, which made them go crazy and most of them killed themselves as they couldn't withstand it

No, they were immortal before, by eliminating hylden they've struck down on the wheel of fate therefore cutting Elder God from all the souls and since vampires could pass the curse on people making them immortal as well it was spreading like a disease for Elder God which was soon starving because of the lack of souls - something like that:P

Well, there's Legacy of Kain: Defiance. It's pretty good despite ridiculous controls and camera views. Blood Omen 2 takes place between Blood Omen and Soul Reaver, but it didn't happen in the original time-line. It's weird.

I remember the first time I walked into that place and saw the very first victim wrapped in webbing. I just sat there staring at it with my mouth open. My next words were "Oh my Gawd, with the fuck have I walked into?"

Is it because the vents didn't open properly (and the air jets won't take you high enough) or because you're not positioned over then properly? There's a fairly small area you can be in and still float up - try doing tight circles over it, once you find the sweet spot.

i have both blood omen 1 and and soul reaver 1 for ps1 but only the cd's and not the cases bu im gonna buy them again on ebay that are brand new and not opened. plus my soul reaver game lags on my ps1 cause the cd is old bt blood omen works perfectly

My only problem with any LOK remake, as much as I adore the series, is that anything short of the Blood Omens flat out demands the presence of the Elder God. With Tony Jay having passed away, we don't have one. His voice was too unique to replicate.

I hate to break this to you bu the Blood Omen games have been resolved, story-wise and also, the Soul Reaver games as well since Raziel fullfiled his part in the prophecy by entering the Soul Reaver in Defiance. The only character whose prophecy is not yet complete is Kain's since he's left to complete his job as Balance Guardian and bring peace to Nosgoth once and for all since all the other Guardians are dead. And, the Hylden are needed to be confronted too.

Raziel had no mercy towards them in Soul Reaver 1 when he met them individually one at the time; the only one spared was Turel and I also forgotten Rahab was also in the game, too. In your opinion who would perfect choice of actors for both Raziel and Kain if Hollywood truly adapts the series correctly (which they won't)?
