Very true. I wish we got the sequel to Defiance that included a playable Young and Old Kain. If memory serves me right that is. Pretty sure there's images or concept art. I'd love to learn exactly what the Elder God actually was. This franchise just needed one last final chapter to tie it all up... and we never got that. 😢

Your "FYI" is full of spoilers of Defiance, that's not something a "rookie" to the series should know until the very end because it is revealed on the last game of the series. It'd be like if someone were just starting to read Berserk and I say "FYI Griffith sacrifices the Band of the Hawk to become a god hand and later returns to the physical world with the intention of merging the physical world and the astral world" I just spoiled the Conviction arc and the The Falcon of the Millennium Empire Arc just so I can do a FYI post.

What complicates everything is Moebius and the Hylden's aims.

My guess is humans just call demonic everything that is supernatural and unexplained, and doesn`t fit into some other myth(such as ghost, werewolves etc.) even Vorador called Raziel "more demon, than vampire" and he knew both of Hylden and Ancients. Also, different cultures probably look at this stuff differently... Maybe creatures of other dimensions are considered demonic? And even vampires are just as well called demons sometimes- this is meant as insult, maybe as in "you don`t belong here buddy... crawl back into that hole you belong in...". Outsider. Which is particulary powerful way of putting things, if you ask me. That would mean, that humans are believing, that this world is theirs, and as such everyone else is to be extinguished or chased away into "their" domain. Also Moebius and Mortanius, who influenced a LOT of culture around them- knew well, who Ancients were, and, i would think- they made sure, that there are "proper" angels(statues of Sarafan knights), while as we can see in Sarafan Stronghold- Anceinst are demonized, and blue skin, tridactly claws and black wings are not considered angelic at all...

It is because Hylden are not demons. They are Nosgoth natives banished to the demon realm

Oh yeah, even as Moebius and the Elder God sought to manipulate Raziel since his being a walking paradox could prevent Kain from achieving his destiny as Scion of Balance and destroying the Elder God to free Nosgoth of his grasp, which is why they wanted Raziel to be the one to kill him, and because he was so determined and also selfish at times to learn what he believed was his full, true fate, Raziel was easily played like a fiddle, only realizing what he had to do when he realized what he was meant to do.

as early as SR1 it was established that a vampire's soul that is left in the spectral realm, eventually adapts and turns into a wraith, and this happened multiple times the Wraith and reraised vampires in Sr1(the ones glowing blueish that often start dead until you bring them back) Dumah and Raziel himself once you prgress further evne raziel becomes aware of this and realizes that him becomnig a wraith is somethnig that would just happen anyway, the only unique thing about him was that for some unkown reason until then he had free will(the reason why this had to happens isnt apparent until Sr2).

@@Teixas666 Yea i love that....There is a cutscene in SR that concisely explains Raz's entire existence post death to both Raz and us, yet we were both too silly to see it...Its the very first underworld wraith cinematic....yet Raz never once questioned his own 'gift' from the Elder being merely him becoming a wraith by himself ;/

So as I understand it, history is manipulated by various parties: 1. Pillars fall, and the world becomes corrupt and run by degenerated vampires as seen in SR1. They are degenerated because the corruption of the pillars seeps into Kain which in turn seeps into his created Vampires and the world. 2. Pillars stay but vampires are exterminated which is the Elder God's aim (and Moebius/Sarafan). However in that process, the Hylden win because their greatest enemy is killed. What the good guys (Kain, Raziel, some Humans, etc) are trying to do is simultaneously: 1. Banish the Hylden. 2. Restore the pillars to purity. 3. Get rid of the Elder God who is trying to get rid of vampires and is a parasite. I think the last game in the series (Defiance) implies that Kain has been purged of corruption and basically is going to beat the Hylden, and finally save the future for everyone. I guess this is why there hasn't been another game. The story is pretty much resolved. I'll be absolutely honest though, the story is still somewhat headache inducing, especially the time loop of how Raziel was the soul inside the reaver and somehow needed to "cleanse" the balance guardian (Kain). The entire time travel thing IMO opens so many cans of worms because in theory everything could be changed by Moebius and those that can time travel. Or maybe I don't understand it correctly. But whatever.

2022 and still no word, I guess Squre Enix and Eidos don't care about LoK anymore.. they'd rather make more and more Marvel Universe games... such a pity...

If you have played Blood Omen you'd know the lost city is nowhere near the pillars. It's on the lake of the dead right near the entrance of Termogent Forest, this is below the pillars.

Kain's throne won't be there for another 30 years! The pillars were corrupted in the previous cutscene to this one, at the moment of Ariel's murder and Kain's birth.

soul reaver 2's 1st half happens in Nosgoth past just as the pillars were corrupted. Kain's sanctuary of the clans at that point is still at least 1000 years away.

I personally think the catalyst was, that Kain no longer attempted to kill him. Raziel also saw the vampires he wanted revenge on already ruined or beset with a fate worse than death, degenerated beyond belief and either already defeated by other adversaries or living in isolation and decay.

Remember: Raziel Never Asked ot be Raised as a Wraith and he wasnt keen on the idea until the EG pushed that he could help him attain his revenge. Raziel wasnt being thankfull by serving the EG, he was using what he was Dealt to get his way. However from the moment he realized Kain wasnt interested in killing him and once he Reached the Oracle Cave and became aware of Moebious RAziel became wary that maybe there was some other interest at play, this became evne more important after his second ecounter with Kain and the line EG mentoned when Raziel followed him saying he could no longer trac khim if he did. you gotta ask "you are this powerful and were responsible for raising me as a wraith, why doesyour control over me seem to be so weak?(Later on ot fin that the EG wasnt actually responsible for it, he just happened ot find Raziel there, linked ot the Wheel for some unkown reason.)

The real reason was Moebius revealing he was a servant of the Elder God and Kain telling him there are more secrets regarding the pillars and Raziel's role in the world. In the first game Raziel was solely devoted to killing game that he didn't mind the Elder God feeding him misinformation but when Raziel didn't kill Kain at the pillars he started to wonder what the secrets of Nosgoth were and just as he was pondering the Elder God conveniently tells him those are lies which makes Raziel very wary of the Elder God from that point onward.

Probably when he spoke to kain. He advised him to see past his vengance. See whats goimg on around him.

I don't think there was a pivotal moment. It's probably an accumulation of the Elder God's gas lighting.

After rewatching this scene, I think it was when Moebius said he was a servant of the Elder God. Raziel knew how much of a slimebag Moebius was, having manipulated Kain to extinguish the vampires, that was probably his first red flag regarding the Elder God.

He realized that the Elder had less power over him than he realized + Moebius's claiming to be a servant of "the same god" to save himself from the potential paradox raziel was gonna create if he killed him with the conjoined reavers. Knowing moebius's reputation and he he serves his " benefactor" would start raising questions., especially when this same " benefactor" started showing signs of not being interested in aiding you.
