I’m a 73 yr old white woman, I remember making sure to get my errands done early on Saturdays so I could watch Soul Train. My daughter and I would try to dance like the dancers on the show. Kids today have no idea what they missed, Soul Train was one of the best shows on tv ever. I loved the show. Thank you Don Cornelius! Rip

Barbara Leszczynski, nothing says "I'm an old fart in denial about my age and trying to pretend I'm still young" than stating your age as "70 years young". Saying your age as "X years old" doesn't mean you're old, or that the recipient thinks you think of yourself as old. Think about it. "Teacher, today is my birthday and I'm 8 years old!" The teacher doesn't ever think the kid thinks he's _old._ So please, drop that phrase because it actually has the opposite effect from what you think it does.

Yes it was much nicer to have interaction with people back then, people were much more accepting and open minded (for the most part) now you try to be whoever you want to be and do what you want to you get dirty looks and chastised. Stares, eye-rolls, head shakes, you name it. Everyone is so into everyone elses lives instead of their own. People are judgmental and closed-minded every where you look, it makes people not even want to leave their houses, That's why people are so off-putting, it's not the advancement of technology it's that Society itself Sucks these days.

The answer to your question is...M O N E Y! yep thats what did it. you remember lionel richie? im sure you do. Well michael jackson was the king of pop (popular) but lionel richie was the king of CROSSOVER his music after his 1970s group days is what got him rich and known to a whole New white POPular new fan base which in turn got him and michael jackson paid alot of money. So in turn everybody wanted to get in on it, remember jeffery Osbourn left LTD? Cameo downsized their group, bands were breaking up. Hip Hop was slowly creepin in...it was the 80s! and the a lot of music in the 80s was terrible!

That dude in the brown suit was killing it. I can imagine how fun being in the Soul Train line was. Man, Black music is absolutely the best. Hands down. Hear that groove. As soon as you hear it, you want to dance or move something. People have so much fun back then. The music got you moving and people felt so free in the 70s. I'm an 80s baby of course, so I am sure it was the same in the 80s too. I wish we had this America back

I believe crack truly only affected the inner city ghettos! But i agree White, Black, and most Americans were happier in the 70's & 80's! Then the government and corporations began to decimate the Middle class and we ended up with the shit-show that we are currently in!!

They ate the same food we did. People were just more active then. I dont even see kids playing outside any more. I was born in 1990 and remember My momma used to make us spend our Saturday and Sundays outside with the neighborhood kids. We weren't allowed to lounge around on the weekends and watch TV all day. Our regimen on the weekend was 1) wake up 2) clean up 3) shower and eat 4) take our asses outside lol She said she was raised the same way, we spent a LOT of time outside.

So true back in the day people seemed happier, maybe because there was less stress, life wasn't as expensive. People and kids weren't in competition to have the most expensive athletic shoes, the latest IPhone, the most social media friends.etc. NYC, 1970s as kids we played, among others, skelsies, hopscotch, double dutch, hand ball, stick ball. Or just ran around on bikes, or roller skates, it was fun just being kids. And especially loved watching the Sooooooouuuuuulllll Train!!!!!!
