Man, from a child that came up in the 80's/90's and a huge hip hop fan that's from the east coast, I can really say I've spent SO MUCH time smoking out and rockin' Souls of Mischief. It's funny, right? Cuz, as I'm watching the full doc and the members are showing their childhood homes and telling stories about how they used to all hang at a specific friends' house and wil' out together, I'm thinking about how kids on the east coast were doing the same THING lol.. for real! I respect you guys for keeping it 💯. The lyrics were just calming to the mind, and, credibly, some of the best beats and lyrics ever made. I could care less if you're from the east or the west, you made my childhood extremely memorable, and I appreciate that. Love and Light 🙏🏼

I get what op is saying and why he would’ve felt like that. But there was a ny vibe to it, no way around that and that’s a big part on why we liked it so much. I was a pre teen/ early teen during that time n them pharcyde, alkaholiks n cypress just didn’t sound like what we associated with the west coast sounds. I don’t think tribe and de la sound alike per say bor do I think souls sound like them neither. Everyone had they’re own flavor. It’s was from a like minded place though I believe. We all experience things differently but similarly. And souls are true to the origins of Hip Hop and that’s NY shit, no way getting around that. They are one of the best ever

"The Wu-Tang of the West" But remember the West coast THE BEST COAST. HIEROGLYPHICS/SOULS OF MISCHIEF are the best group ever imo, wordsmiths, Lyrical geniuses, and changed the way people rapped. The multi's, thought pattern, and rhyme scheme was something special. This is proof kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a56RaMmrzZbYeqM.html Eminem and Andre 3000 were influenced by Hiero and says they are "RAPPERS RAPPERS" The world needs a JUICE CREW, WUTANG, HIEROGLYPHICS reunion/celebration of hip-hop!! Real hip hop. Those 3 crews arguably defined the golden age of hip hop. Hieroglyphics crew is best imo though. 93' Til Infinity, 3rd Eye Vision, and Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resoultion.... Those 3 albums are better than any 3 and other crew can assemble. Add in Full Circle for Trilogy if you prefer and its a wrap. Souls of Mischief/Hieroglyphics flows were sacred writings. Thats what Hieroglyphics means: sacred writings. 93' Til Infinity - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nL56lpV_vt2smqs.html Make Your Mind Up - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hb93jKifmLGRc3U.html You Never Knew - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oZ1ibLhmprOte30.html Mics Of The Round Table - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/orlzhqSh1L7HY4U.html What A Way To Go Out - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j8VjgqunvpeaoaM.html And that's only 5 of my fav tracks of their.... they have DOZENS of songs better than most rappers/crews BEST. For all those who've probably never even used a VCR or held a Cassette. Does Big Daddy Kane mean anything to you??? THE G.O.A.T!!! All I can say is: Whodini - friends KRS-ONE- 9mm goes bang Big Daddy Kane - Aint no half-steppin' O.D.B - Brooklyn Zoo EPMD - You're a customer. Souls of Mischief- Make your mind up. I could have said 100's of other songs. But these WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE just like this SOM song and make the youngin's out there realize THEY DON'T NEED TO LISTEN TO ANY MODERN "EAR CANCER" Like Nas said in 2006 "Hip-Hop is dead". Rap really died with Big L in 1999 but was put out of its misery in 2004 with O.D.B. R.I.P Legends!! There's an ARCHIVE of Golden Age Hip-Hop to be unearthed and cherished ..... FROM 93' TIL..... I had to vent bc I wanna reinforce that everything after the early 2000's has become degenerate to the genre. ONE LOVE

@Bilbo Baggins Well said
@pastense3 жыл бұрын
@Bilbo Baggins He's asking if sampling AFFECTS originality, and he would be correct. Like Puff's production in the 90s was the epitome of the most unoriginal of sampling. But he knew what he was doing. And then you got the god producers in Primo, Dilla, Pete Rock, DITC, etc. that you can spot each of their signature sounds.
@KtotheG3 жыл бұрын
It depends on how you sample. It's about technique, just like flowing.
@pastense3 жыл бұрын
@Bilbo Baggins bro, I’m in the industry. 30yrs a musician. 20 a DJ. 15 a producer. I don’t care how many likes u got lol. I agree on your points. I’m simply stating that sampling DOES affect originality when u said it doesn’t. Tell me how I’m wrong instead of stating how many likes u got and tellin ppl their theory is limited. Let’s have a real discussion. Here, I’ll start. So, would you say Puff Daddy is equally original as J. Dilla?

2:11 KING ASIATIC NOBODIES EQUAL is imo the GOAT if one person had to be. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbpzetph3M_egqM.html His song "Aint no half Steppin" was something human ears had no concept of how dope words could sound put together. Somehow BDK was able to pull off a light hearted yet incredibly ominous instrumental - something human ears on June 21st 1988 could not get enough of; allowing him to STILL be the only hip-hop artist to sell out the World Famous Apollo Theater - not once - but TWICE to an all female audience. No rapper has even done it once. He also did the Madona "SEX BOOK" photo shoot with Naomi Campbell. Kane THE MAN in the late 80's and 90's when the golden age took off. He was literally rap's Mick Jagger. KANE is the GOAT of Hip-hop imo. "Women want him and men wanted to be him" Big Daddy Kane - King Asiatic Nobodies Equal is the GOAT. Kane was this master lyricist, battle rapper, as well as showman who could DANCE. He was the ENTIRE PACKAGE. Big Daddy Kane was Biggie Smalls, Big L, AND Jay Z's idol/influence; while Rakim was Tupac, Nas, and Eminem's. Nuff said: Kane and Rakim both the can lay claim but I prefer Kane mainly bc he was imo better. Just me. ONE LOVE.
